1. Cheapest Beauty Treatment - Sleep
===============================
Skincare specialists throughout the world know this. The cheapest most effective beauty treatment is sleep. Nothing can give you the refreshed and relaxed look like a good restfulnight's sleep. Without sufficient sleep the skin looks drier and older. Many people reach out to medications to get sleep, thinking that medicated sleep can be just as effective. If anything, medicated sleep can dry out the skin more, as well as set up the potential for addiction. When medications are prescribed for skin conditions, interestingly a mild tranquilizer is often included.
One of the most commonly prescribed sleep aids is Ambien. Ambien is reported to be addictive because users are finding that it takes more to achieve the same effect.
Rap star, Eminem, canceled a European tour last August after checking himself into a hospital. He claimed he was addicted to Ambien. This is where sleep is not too cheap.
Here are ways to Keep Sleep Cheap:
--Create a routine at bedtime. Use your self care techniques as a nightly ritual. It allows you to unwind and if it's a consistent routine then you don't have to think about your actions. You will just go through the motions habitually and that will allow your mind to relax.
--Cleansing your body with water can wash off the issues of the day, even if it's just your hands, face and mouth. Cleanse minimally no matter how tired you are. If you had an extremely stressful day, a salt or milk bath with lavender is a great way to literally and metaphorically wash those events and stressors down the drain.
--Limit beverages with caffeine throughout the day especially near bedtime.
--Make sure you have a quality bed and linens. Cotton linens make a significant difference in sleep comfort.
--Wear comfortable clothes to sleep in, preferably cotton,ideally organic cotton.
--Sprinkle a few drops of lavender essential oil on your pillow.
--Another essential oil indicated for insomnia is Vetiver. The best place for this is on the bottom of your feet before you go to bed, then cover your feet with cotton socks.
--Think grateful thoughts as your head hits the pillow and become aware of your gentle breathing.

2. Lick the Lead in Your Lipstick
==================================
Okay, might as well start off with the bad news (don't worry, the good news follows). Many lipsticks have lead in them, especially the higher priced top brand lipsticks. Lead is a heavy metal wedon't want in our bodies. If companies rave about their lipstick's 'staying power', know that it is more likely to have higher contents of lead.
Here's how you tell if your lipstick has lead:
--Put lipstick on your hand.
--Use a gold ring to scratch on the lipstick.
--If the lipstick color turns black then you know the lipstick contains lead.
Top Brands of lipstick which contain lead are:
--Christian Dior
--Lancome
--Clinique
--YSL
--Estee Lauder
--Shiseido
--Red Earth (lip gloss)
--Chanel (lip conditioner)
--Market America Motnes Lipstick

(Thank you!! to Home Spa Lady subscriber Valeria Burton, N.D.for submitting the information on this topic).
Sensing there might be a skeptic or two among you, the researcher in this Home Spa Lady (moi, Marilee), sought out more info and found a wonderful website for you to consult for safety levels of ingredients in your makeup. It's the Environmental Working Group and the website is http://www.ewg.com.
So, here's the good news: we can make our own safe and luscious lip gloss at home. And better yet, you can use your essential oils in this recipe which might even have an effect at lowering heavy metal levels such as lead (that's for another article!).
Your Own Lead-Free Lip Gloss
--2 teaspoons beeswax
--2 tablespoons sweet almond or coconut oil
--5 drops essential oil (suggestions: orange, lemon, grapefruit,tangerine, spearmint, peppermint, eucalyptus)
--2 drops from a vitamin E capsule
Melt oil and beeswax. Remove from heat. When cooled, stir inessential oil and vitamin E. Place in an easy to use container.For a thicker gloss, add more beeswax.

3. Yoga Moms Replace Soccer Moms
===============================
A news wire just came through yesterday about this changing trend. Mini-vanned Moms carting knee-padded kids are shifting to Moms glued to yoga mats. This 'whole life' approach is being favored with Mom's self care as priority, and creative ways to make that happen.
Formerly obsesses with games and scores, Moms are now more concerned about how the family will have restful quality time that will ensures harmony in the household and not competition in the outer world.
Whole foods are replacing traditional grilled cheese and PB&J sandwiches. More organic foods are on shopping lists along with non-toxic household cleaners, and aromatherapy as a daily staple.

4. Now Smell This - Special Tele-Seminar
==================================
'Amidst' the perfume industry are hundreds of essential oils, yet the differences between perfume and essential oils are fieldsapart. Most people think of essential oils as 'aromatherapy', however,'therapy' through 'aroma' is not the only function of essential oils.
Essential oils, when grown, harvested, and distilled for therapeutic use, can be effective in many ways other than throughsmelling the aroma. Therapeutic grade essential oils can be used 'medicinally' and can be extremely effective in:
--Healing the body
--Enhancing beauty
--Promoting longevity
There are many ways to use essential oils and there are different parts of the body on which to apply them. You may be surprised to find out that you don't even need to smell them for them to have an affect on you.
The key here is to know the difference between perfume, perfume grade essential oils, and therapeutic grade essential oils.

6. The Heart Speaks on Thursday's Today Show
===============================
The Heart Speaks...A Journey Beyond the Physical Pump...is a book written by Scripps cardiologist and Healing Touch colleague Mimi Guarneri MD. Mimi will be on The Today Show on January 26th between 8 and 8:30AM EST. This is part of the weeklong series on 'Heart Smarts'.
Mimi has keynoted at our Healing Touch International conferences sharing incredible stories that surround the power of the heart and the meaning of this muscle within our being.
One story I remember was so magical about a young boy who received a heart transplant and synchronistic events in his lifeled him to a love relationship with someone who was closely connected to the donor. Mimi's presentation left us in awe and joyful tears.
Also, Reader’s Digest (February issue, pages 180-196) covers the chapter from her book where Mimi herself received Healing Touch.
The founder of Healing Touch, the late Janet Mentgen, had desires that Healing Touch would help to spread healing light world wide. This is a big step in helping that to happen.
Thank you to Rauni King (who heads up Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine in San Diego) for sharing this information, and for all of the fabulous work that she is doing to advance Healing Touch internationally!

6. HSL's Joke of the Week
===================================
Happy January 25th ~
Twas the month AFTER Christmas.... and all through the house Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse. The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd did taste At the holiday parties had gone to my waist.
When I got on the scales there arose such a number! When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber), I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared; The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,
The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese And the way I never said, 'No thank you, please.' As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt And prepared once again to do battle with dirt--- I said to myself, as I only can, 'You can't spend all winter disguised as a man!' So--away with the last of the sour cream dip, Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip.
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished Till all the additional ounces have vanished. I won't have a cookie--not even a lick; I'll have to chew on a long celery stick. I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie, I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry. I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore--- But isn't that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot. Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!
Here's hoping your resolutions are where you want them!
