1. New Year's Eve Party for One
=================================
Being alone on New Year's Eve doesn't have to be so bad. As a matter of fact, it can be a wonderful thing. New Years Eve can be the perfect opportunity to renew yourself and get ready for the coming year. Here are some Party Package ideas for one:

--Decide to approach it as an evening of self-care
--Turn it into a ritual to let go of the old and bring in the new.
--Center the evening around your bath and bedroom.
--Diffuse the essential oil "Transformation - (see below).
--Buy a pretty journal in which to write reflections and projections
--Order from your favorite Chinese or Sushi restaurant
--Have a special champagne flute to drink either sparkling apple cider or champagne
--Do a dry brush body scrub to exfoliate the skin (let go of the old)
--Take a lavender bath and play soft gentle music as you visualize the new abundant year
--Use your favorite body lotion on damp skin after your bath
--Call in and visualize your new resolutions as you dowse yourself with lovely lotion and your favorite essential oils (shout them out loud - no one will hear you)
--Wear a comfortable and pretty lounge outfit - silk or satin
--Make your own maraca for when the clock strikes 12 and dance around your bedroom (To make a maraca: you need 2 paper plates, dried beans and tape. Fill one plate with a handful of dried beans, place the other plate on top, face down and tape together - making sure you seal all the way around).
--Make an edible necklace out of licorice (read about the health benefits of licorice - and order gluten-free licorice here: http://tinyurl.com/yy5evg
--Watch one of these movies and munch on your necklace:
Little Miss Sunshine
The Wedding Planner
Overboard
Baby Boomer
Liar Liar
My Best Friend's Wedding
Dante's Peak
Volcano
The Beautician and the Beast

--Call your favorite people and leave loving messages on their voicemails
--Call yourself and leave a loving message on your voicemail

1.New Year's Resolutions: We Make 'Em, We Break 'Em
===================================================
By Marsha Jordan
97% of people who make New Year's resolutions abandon them within 30 days. With a failure rate like that, why should I even bother? Is there a secret to successfully keeping my resolutions? Maybe I should resolve to gain weight, exercise less, develop bad habits, procrastinate, and watch more TV in the new year. Maybe I could keep resolutions like those. No, that's not the answer. We need to resolve to do things in the new year that will make us better people and will improve the world.
Here are four simple tips to make keeping those resolutions easier:
--Start with small steps
- Don't resolve to lose 30 pounds. Resolve to skip dessert once a week and exercise once a week. After these small changes become habits, implement bigger changes and increase your exercise time. Small successes will inspire you to move forward. If your goals are too lofty, you're doomed to failure. Start small and work your way up to bigger and better things over time.
--Be specific - Don't set general goals. If you resolve to be a better spouse this year, you don't have a plan; so chances are it won't happen. Think of a specific thing your spouse would like you to do for him or her (like giving a back rub at the end of the day, picking up your underwear, or taking out the garbage without being asked). Resolve to make the effort to do that one thing on a regular basis. Small changes can make a big difference in your relationship. Little things DO mean a lot.
--Have some accountability. We all need someone who will check up on us. Knowing that someone will ask how I'm doing will motivate me to work toward the goal. Share with a friend what you've determined to do and ask them to check back with you each week. There's a greater chance that you'll put forth some effort when you're expecting to give a report on your progress.
--Choose to do something that has a payoff. If you resolve to eat more liver this year or to walk 5 miles and do 300 sit ups each day, what pleasure will you derive from that? Set goals that will provide a sense of satisfaction upon completion. Determine to do something that you'll enjoy so much that you'll want to continue doing it.

Here is a resolution you can easily keep this year. Give some cheer to a sick child in 2007. It's a small step that takes only a few moments and can cost you nothing. The payoff is knowing that you've brought a little more joy into the life of a suffering little one. Visit the HUGS and HOPE web site (http://www.hugsandhope.org/) and read about the kids featured there. Choose a child and send him or her a cheery email or post card. That's all there is to it. This is a goal you can accomplish: Make a difference this year -- one smile at a time. Be in the 3% who will achieve success at keeping resolutions this year. And one of the smilesyou create just might be your own! Author Marsha Jordan is founder of the HUGS and HOPE charity for seriously ill and injured children. She is author of "Hugs, Hope, and Peanut Butter," inspirational reading illustrated by 40 sick kids.

3. Useless Knowledge About New Years Eve
=============================================
From A Dictionary of Superstitions:
--On the stroke of 12, every door in the house has to be opened to allow the old year to go out. A visitor arriving before 12 must not leave by the same door through which he came.
--Never thrown any ashes, or dirty water, or any articles, however worthless, out of your house on New Year's Day. It brings ill luck; but you may bring in as many honestly gotten goods as you can procure.
--Celebrating January 1st began with Julius Caesar: Julius Caesar created a new calendar and began it with the month of January, named for Janus, the two-faced god. (Today we use the Gregorian calendar, revised from Caesar's - it was introduced by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582.)
--Auld Lang Syne is a old Scottish tune that band leader Guy Lombardo turned into a New Year's Eve tradition in 1929. He and his Royal Canadians band played at the Roosevelt Hotel on NewYears Eve and it was broadcast over the radio for all Americans to hear and it became an instantaneous hit. Here are the words in case you need to practice this week! "Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot and days of auld lang syne? For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne. We'll take a cup of kindness yet for auld lang syne."

4. Essential Oil Tip: Transform Your Life
============================================

--Lemon
--Peppermint
--Sandalwood
--Clary Sage
--Frankincense
--Idaho Balsam Fir
--Rosemary
--Cardamom

Diffuse for most effective use. Order your oils and diffuser from your Young Living distributor or by going to Young Living's Website

6.Recipe of the Week: Cheese and Thyme Twists
==============================================
A great companion to your New Year's Eve cocktail or champagne
--1 C. grated Reggiano Parmigiano cheese
--1 C. grated aged Cheddar cheese
--2 t. salt--1 t. cayenne pepper
--1 T. dried thyme
--Flour for dusting the work surface
--1 (17.3-oz) pkg. (2 sheets) frozen puff pastry
--1 egg, beaten

Mix together Reggiano Parmigiano, Cheddar, salt, pepper and thyme. Roll out one sheet of the pastry into a square about 12 or 13 inches on a side. Brush surface with the egg. Sprinkle 3/4 cup of cheese mixture onto the top half of the sheet of dough. Fold bottom up on top of the cheese and roll out again into a large rectangle. Sprinkle 1/4 cup of the cheese mixture all over the surface and press into the dough with the rolling pin. Using a pizza cutter, cut into strips 3/4-inch wide. Twist each strip into a corkscrew shape, and refrigerate on a non-stick baking sheet. Repeat with the other sheet. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 400° F. Bake twists 15 minutes until golden. Cool and serve.

7. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================
New Year's Prayer

May we get a clean bill of health from our dentist, our psychiatrist, our ophthalmologist, our cardiologist, our gastroenterologist, our urologist, our proctologist, our gynecologist, our podiatrist, our plumber, our hairdresser, and the IRS. May our hair, our teeth, our face lift, our abs, our honey cakes, and our stocks not fall and may our blood pressure, our triglycerides, our cholesterol, our white blood count, our weight and our mortgage interest rates not rise. May we find a way to travel from anywhere to anywhere in the rush hour in less than an hour and when we get there, may we find a parking space. May our computers not crash or catch a virus. May the internet increase speed so that we can go virtually at the speed of enlightenment. May we be sensitive to the needs of others and create balance with our own. May we accept that we may not keep up with our New Year's resolutions. May we can laugh at ourselves and realize that if were supposed to touch our toes while exercising, nature would have put them further up our bodies; and, the reason so many of us take up jogging is to hear heavy breathing again. May what we see in the mirror delight us and what others see in us, delight them. May someone love us enough to accept and forgive our faults, be blind to our blemishes, and tell the world about our virtues. May the telemarketers wait until after we finish dinner to call us. May our checkbooks and budgets balance.May we remember to say "I love you" at least once a day to our spouse, our child, our parent, all of our significant others. May we live in a world at peace, with awareness of the beauty in every sunset, flower, baby's smile, lover's kiss, and every wonderful astonishing beat of our heart. May we smile and laugh throughout the year.
