1. Essential Oils for Love and Romance
===============================
I've always shied away from the topic of "entertainment" when it comes to the use of essential oils. It's not been my orientation nor has it been my training, and I think it would overshadow the hundreds of other therapeutic effects of using essential oils.

Having said that I also believe that love, romance, and se-ual healing can be incredibly impactful, if not the most important thing, when it comes to someone's life and state of health and wholeness.

The question often arises as to whether essential oils can work as aphrodisiacs. I've been exposed to differing schools of thought on this topic. One teacher I've had speaks to "no such thing as an aphrodisiac essential oil. Essential oils awaken the(many times dormant) innate desires, they don't create them". Yet Elisabeth Miller, author of "Releasing Aphrodite: AromaticAphrodisiacs for Love and Romance" may disagree.

The word aphrodisiac comes from the name of the Greek Goddess of Love "Aphrodite". The word "aphrodisiac" is defined as any substance that arouses or increases se-ual desire. Scents and smells can naturally do that, it happens in nature all the time.

So, I'm going to take a step outside of my typical topics and teachings of the use of essential oils as I highlight some of what Elisabeth Miller shares in her book. My willingness to do this is because Elisabeth clearly admits that her recommendations are not based on the therapeutic use of essential oils (although some may disagree with that), and that her focus is on the scent only. You can tell that she is concerned with scent only by her recipes. Many of her recipes call for heating the essential oils. When you heat an essential oil, even if it is only over a small tea light candle, the therapeutic value of the oil is destroyed although the scent remains.

Here are three little cutely-named recipes for the woman and her man from Elisabeth Miller. A paragraph follows on what to "expect from this scent".
Aperitif
Sprinkle in an a oil burner...
Clary sage, 1 drop
Grapefruit, 2 drops
Orange, 2 drops
A stimulating aperitif of a scent to heighten his anticipation, this vivacious and flirtatious fragrance increases spontaneity and decreases shyness when drinks are a prelude to romance.

(Un)dressed for Dinner
Sprinkle in an oil burner...
Jasmine, 1 drop
Black pepper, 2 drops
Bergamot, 4 drops
This is a frankly seductive recipe to capture his attention and whet his appetitie when the surprise is...you...all dressed for dinner in just a silky white robe and a string of pearls!

After-Dinner Treats
Sprinkle in an oil burner...
Geranium, 1 drop
Mandarin, 4 drops
Rosemary, 2 drops
An exuberant finger-snapping scent, the fragrance of geranium, mandarin and rosemary gets couples in a party mood for some after-dinner treats.

2. Top Ten Superfoods
==================================
Dubbed "the Food Dude" by Oprah Winfrey, Dr. Steven Pratt a senior staff ophthalmologist at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla,California, has a list of top superfoods in his book "SuperFoods Rx". Here are the top ten, not in any particular order:
--Nuts He suggests two brazil nuts a day.
--Honey For the antioxidant effects
--Eggs Get them with added Omega 3's
--Soy (I absolutely DISagree)
--Tea Green and Black
--Flaxseed To balance hormones
--Pomegranates To lift libido
--Seaweed Minerals for energy and bone health
--Olive Oil
--Dark Chocolate (I disagree again)

He mentions two other superfoods. I would like to take these two and replace them with the Soy and Dark Chocolate.
--Kefir A yogurt drink - loaded with good bacteria for your gut
--Wheat Grass If you can access it, and then tolerate it

(Why no soy? You will have the opportunity to find out first hand in an upcoming TeleSeminar with Kaayla T. Daniel, PhD author of "The Whole Soy Story: Dark Side of America's Favorite HealthFood")

3. The Worst Way To Prepare Food
===============================
Microwaving is one thing, (and that is for a later article), but microwaving in plastic should be absolutely forbidden.

Dr. Edward Fujimoto, director of the Center for Health Promotion at Castle Medical Center in Kailua, Hawaii, is the manager of the Wellness Program at the hospital. He often speaks about how bad dioxins are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat and plastics releases dioxins into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Dioxins are carcinogens and highly toxic to the cells of our bodies.

Instead, he recommends using glass, Corning Ware, or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results without the dioxins. So anything packaged in plastics or styrofoam like such things as TV dinners, instant soups, etc. should be removed from the container and heated in something else, preferably glass.

Who has done the studies?
You won't believe this. . . .
A seventh grade student, Claire Nelson learned that di-ethyl-hexyl-adepate (DEHA), considered a carcinogen, is found in plastic wrap, and she also learned that the FDA had never studied the effect of microwave cooking on plastic-wrapped food.

Claire began to wonder: "Can cancer-causing particles seep into food covered with household plastic wrap while it is being microwaved?"

Three years later, with encouragement from her high school science teacher, Claire set out to test what the FDA had not. Although she had an idea for studying the effect of microwave radiation on plastic-wrapped food, she did not have the equipment. Eventually, Jon Wilkes at the National Center for Toxicological Research in Jefferson, Arkansas, agreed to help her.

The research center, which is affiliated with the FDA, let her use its facilities to perform her experiments, which involved microwaving plastic wrap in virgin olive oil. Claire tested four different plastic wraps and "found not just the carcinogens but also xenoestrogen was migrating [into the oil]...." Xenoestrogens are linked to low sperm counts in men and to breast cancer inwomen.

Throughout her junior and senior years, Claire made a couple of trips each week to the research center, which was 25 miles from her home, to work on her experiment.
An article in Options reported that "her analysis found that DEHA was migrating into the oil at between 200 parts and 500 parts per million. The FDA standard is 0.05 parts per billion." Her summarized results have been published in science journals. Claire Nelson received the American Chemical Society's top science prize for students during her junior year and fourth place at the International Science and Engineering Fair (Fort Worth, Texas) as a senior. 4. Frankincense and Cancer
==================================
This past week an UPI article came out stating that frankincense oil might be useful in treating malignant melanoma.

Malignant melanoma is an aggressive cancer that affects humans and equines. There are over 54,000 cases diagnosed annually according to the Amercian Cancer Society.
A professor in the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech, John Robertson, found that frankincense has anti-neoplastic (anti-tumoral) properities and doesn't appear to harm normal cells.

Now this is nothing new to those of us who have been under the study of Gary Young, a naturopathic doctor and founder of Young Living Essential Oils. If you've been to trainings with Dr. Young, you have seen (via slide presentation) some of his work that he has done with frankincense and cancer in his clinics that he had in Mexico. He has been speaking about this for years.

One of Young Living's newer products is a skin care system called ART (Age Refining Technology). A gentle foamy cleanser, a day cream and a night cream have among the ingredients Frankincense and Sandalwood for their beneficial effects of keeping the skin cells cancer free.

It's wonderful to have the scientific community wake up to these ancient healing methods. Although it seems they are more open to what works for horses rather than people - it doesn't matter how the information initially gets in, at least it was presented -and to the American Cancer Society no less!

Robertson said to them: "I think this research on frankincense oil suggests that this ancient medicine may have significant modern uses for chemotherapy of non-resectable malignancies,"

5. Chocolate Glow - Valentine for Your Body
==================================
Give your body a Valentine's gift - a deliciously sweet skin exfoliant and cleansing Glow - made in the comfy spa of your own home!

Mix together 1 1/2 cups of granulated white sugar, 3 tablespoonsof cocoa powder (unsweetened), 1 tsp vitamin E oil (or open 3 capsules), and add this to 1/4 cup of unscented bath and body wash (Young Living has a great one).

Apply this to your body in circular and upward strokes. Make sure you stand in your bathtub or shower. Rinse off and briskly towel dry.

6. HSL's Joke of the Week
===================================
One afternoon a man came home from work to find total mayhem in his house. His three children were outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard. The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house.

Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall. In the front room the TV was loudly blaring a cartoon channel, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing. In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a smallpile of sand was spread by the back door.

He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she may be ill, or that something serious had happened. He found her lounging in the bedroom, still curled in the bed in her pajamas, reading a novel.

She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went. He looked at her bewildered and asked, "What happened here today?"

She again smiled and answered, "You know every day when you come home from work and ask me what in the world I did today?"

Yes" was his incredulous reply.

She answered, "Well, today I didn't do it."
