1. It's Not Easy Being Green
=============================
In 1970 Kermit the Frog sang these lyrics
to the world insinuating how he felt about
the color of his body and his identity.
I'm sure that he, and his originator Jim Henson,
had no idea that the future of this expression would
take on a whole different shade of green.
Today when we talk about being green we mean:
--Eating organic food
--Driving hybrid cars
--Safely trashing plastic
--Lighting our homes with natural light
--Using natural approaches to care for our bodies
--Participating in self-managed health care
Being green is basically about taking care of our planet and
ourselves - cleaning up, polluting less, and using natural
substances for healing and sustenance.
None of this is easy.
It requires huge changes to become "green", changes that don't
happen overnight.
Changes in thinking, consciousness, choices along with
making sacrifices, are not things one can easily do even though
they know it will make themselves and their environment
healthier.
Many times people need that "wake up call" to create change
(such as in disease or disaster).
But if we can do this consciously without that "wake up call"
powerful things happen!
Here are some simple beginning steps to being more "green":
--Start with awareness
--Feel your desire to make a change for the better
--Create an intention for yourself
--Begin thinking of practical application in your daily life for
your self care and the care of your environment
--Read these specific tips on being green in your environment:

--Stay tuned into Home Spa Lady events for upcoming "Green Tea
with Marilee" programs where Marilee interviews holistically
oriented health care professionals
--Be "green for the day" on St. Patty's Day next week on March
17th.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

2. Essential Oil Tip: Organic Green Hand Scrub
================================================
Here is a wonderful and easy way to scrub your hands
and skin with organic sugar, olive oil, and your favorite
essential oil.
My favorite oil for this scrub is Young Living's "St. Marie's"
Lavender!
It is different from the regular lavender. It comes from a
very special location where the energy is incredible!

3. Success Tip: Irish Proverb
================================
It's no use boiling your cabbage twice.
========================
4. Farmers' Almanac Tip
=========================
According to the Farmers' Almanac, if you plant cabbage seeds
while in your nightgown on St. Patrick's Day you are bound to
grow the best and biggest cabbage heads ever!
==============================================
5. Recipe of the Week: Vegan Organic Colcannon
==============================================
Colcannon
This is a traditional Irish dish. It is a side dish
of potatoes and cabbage. A favorite among many on
St. Patrick's Day! This is a vegan approach.
Use organic ingredients.
Salted water
1 medium cabbage, cored and quartered
2 lbs. potatoes, scrubbed and sliced
2 leeks, sliced
1 cup soy milk
1/2 tsp. mace
Sea salt and black pepper, to taste
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 cup vegan margarine (try Earth Balance brand)
--Fill a medium pot with the salted water and bring to a boil
over medium-high heat
--Add the cabbage and cook for 15 minutes until tender.
Drain and roughly chop. Set aside.
--While the cabbage is cooking, add the potatoes to a pot, cover
with water and cook over medium-high heat for 30 minutes, until
tender. Drain and set aside.
--Add the leeks to a saucepan and cover with the soy milk. Cook
over medium heat and bring close to a boil. Lower the heat and
simmer until tender. Set aside.
--Mash the potatoes with the mace, salt, pepper, and garlic. Add
the soy milk-leeks mixture, keeping the leeks intact.
Add more soy milk as needed to make smooth.
--Add the cabbage and margarine.
--Place in a casserole dish and broil for 2 to 5 minutes, until
browned.
Makes 6 servings.

6. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================
The Doctor was puzzled "I'm very sorry but I can't diagnose your
trouble, Mahoney. I think it must be drink. "
"Don't worry about it Dr. Kelley, I'll come back when you're
sober."

Words to "It's Not Easy Being Green" by Kermit the Frog
From "The Sesame Street Book and Record".
'Green' is (c)1970 Jonico Music, Inc.
It's not that easy being green;
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves.
When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold...
or something much more colorful like that.
It's not easy being green.
It seems you blend in with so many other ord'nary things.
And people tend to pass you over 'cause you're
not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water
or stars in the sky.
But green's the color of Spring.
And green can be cool and friendly-like.
And green can be big like an ocean, or important like a mountain,
or tall like a tree.
When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why, but why wonder why?
Wonder, I am green and it'll do fine, it's beautiful!
And I think it's what I want to be.
