1. Twinkle Toes: Tips for Pretty Feet
=======================================
Summertime is a time when we are more conscious of our feet because we are either barefoot or wearing open-toed shoes.
Tips for improving the appearance of our feet go way beyond the painted toenail. Paying attention to the skin on the top andbottom of our feet is important for looks and health. Evenexercising the feet can have an affect on their appearance. If a foot is strong and has muscles that contract and relax easily, it actually looks much better in a s'exy sandal than a tight or swollen foot.
Feet also reflect the body. Some people say that points on thefeet correlate with all of the organs and structures throughoutthe body. Thus, one can access the entire body through the feet.Foot reflexology is an example of a therapeutic modality based onthis theory. Caring for the feet is also a way to care for theentire body.
Here are some tips to have healthy, happy feet:
--Give Your Feet a Facial (would that be a Footcial?)
The skin on top of the feet can be exfoliated and moisturizedjust like the skin on your face. A glow and good feeling canresult. See recipes below for rubs and scrubs for your feet.
--Soak Your Feet for Softness and Invigoration
1 cup lemon juiceCinnamon or other essential oil or spice2 tablespoons of olive oil¼ cup of milkWater (amount does not matter)
Mix all the ingredients in a tub and soak your feet in it for awhile. Cinnamon can be replaced with any spice, perfume or flowerpetals. Peppermint is another popular favorite. Feet lovepeppermint!
This soak will leave your skin refreshed and fragrant. After thiswash your feet with a mild soap. Follow this foot careregimen for a few weeks and the skin on your feet will be silkyand smooth.
--Exercise Your Feet
Ankle Stretch: Sit with your legs stretched out in front of you.Point your toes down as if depressing a pedal (plantar flexion)and then stretch your toes toward your face (dorsiflexion) as faras is comfortable. Hold each stretch for a few seconds, thenrelax and repeat 10 times.
Foot Rollers are great to keep in an area where you spend alot oftime sitting - on the floor underneath your office chair orfavorite spot on the couch. Foot Rollers work by vigorouslyrubbing the roller with the feet over the soles of the feet.
Foot Rollers can:--Massage pressure points on the bottom of each foot andstimulate circulation--Revive sore arches, relieve joint and muscle fatigue
Purchase at: http://tinyurl.com/m43z6
--Treat Yourself to a Foot Reflexology Session
To find a reflexologist in your area go tohttp://www.reflexology-usa.org/
--Paint Your Toenails a Vibrant Color
Color can wake up dull feet and can bring more vibrancy to yourbody and life. Summer is full of even zany colors and there arepolishes that can match most outfits (even greens and blues!).Have fun with the color in your feet.

2. Fragrant Feet
===================
Some people, no matter what they seem to do, create a waft of a"less than pleasant scent" as they slip off their shoes.
Scents are memorable. You want to be remembered as smellingfresh, clean and healthy. Here are some ways to prevent orneutralize malodorous feet:
--Don't wear synthetic socks (polyester) or shoes (man-madematerials). Feet need to breathe so wear natural fibers likecottons, silks, and leather for shoes.
--Drink a lot of water
--Folks who experience excessive sweating should be medicallychecked for endocrine imbalances.
--Dust feet with cornstarch
--Zinc deficiencies sometimes cause body odor
--Frequently alternate shoes that you wear
--Add fresh herbs to your diet. Eat more parsley, cilantro,cinnamon, oregano, rosemary, licorice
--Drink diluted liquid chlorophyll
--Eat alkalinizing foods (fruits, vegetables,lemon and avoidcaffeine and alcohol)
--Foot Soaks for Stinky Feet:
Tea: Brew two tea bags in 2 1/2 cups of water for 15 minutes andpour the tea into a basin containing a gallon of cool water.Soak feet for 20 minutes every day until the smell is gone.
Here are two other choices for soaks: Tomato Juice and BakingSoda with a few teaspoons of vinegar added to it.
--Deodorize your shoes with sprinkles of activated charcoal,coffee grounds, grass clippings, baking soda, cat litter
--Use essential oils on the bottom of your feet daily. Tea-tree(melaleuca), lavender, Purification (YL blend)
--Mix lavender (5 drops) with a few tablespoons of baking powderand sprinkle in your shoes. Let sit overnight and empty out inthe morning.

3. Beat Toenail Fungus
=========================
Topical applications of full-strength Tea-tree oil (melaleucaalternifolia) or oregano. Start our with 3 to 4 drops
From a reader Janet:
"Dear Marilee, I love your tips and letter.I am thinking that Thieves has gotten rid of my toe fungus. Ithink I inherited it from my mother who also had it in the sameright big toe. I tried everything - every over the counterremedy, and even did go to a podiatrist who gave me the lamisilfor three months. That worked, but this past January orFebruary I noticed that it was creeping back. I startedusing a drop or two of Thieves, and even tho it is turning my toeorange - I don't care! I think it has arrested the progression,but it will take a few more months for it to totally grow out. Iknow that it could be an infection in some other part of my body,and it is also due to an increased acidity. Just wanted you toknow - If this works, It will be a terrific testimonial!"
From Marilee: Let us know how you do Janet!

4. Pamper Your Pet's Paws
============================
Don't forget to check on your favorite canine or cat's paws,especially in the summer.
Keep on the alert for cuts, scrapes, splinters, especially onanimals who are out and about in nature.
Keep your animal’s toenails trimmed. Especially dogs who havebig nails that tend to snag, break, and create alot ofdiscomfort.
Your vetinarians can monitor nail length if this is somethingyou are not comfortable doing on your own at home.
A great product to have on hand for "pad problems" that is non-toxic and even safe enough if the animal licks it - is AnimalScents Ointment from Young Living. (It can work for human pawstoo!)

8. Help This Home Spa-er
=============================
Home Spa-er Mary writes:
"Hi Marilee, thank you for the useful info re insect repellents.Since my house seems to have been built on an anthill, I ambesieged with ants. Not wanting to use chemicals, I aminterested in your suggestion of dipping string in oils. Is thatthe pure or diluted oil?"
Hi Mary,
Soak your strings to line your window sills and doorways in pureundiluted essential oil (peppermint is most effective for ants).
Another thing you can do is to bait the area to destroy thecolony - in a non-toxic way. Here's how. In a small jar mixhoney, aspartame, and borax. Place the jar in the pathway wherethe ants come and go. Keep the jar open and tilt it on its side(out of the reach of pets and children). This may take about 2weeks to spread through the entire colony.
