1. Do Sunscreens Promote Cancer?
=================================

Two weeks ago I went for a skin cancer screening at University of
Pennsylvania Hospital.

I didn't have any concerns about any particular area on my body
but I went with a friend who did and I thought I would go through
the process. It was a f'ree community offering and I had never
done this before (I try to stay away from hospitals as much as
possible - and I say this as a nurse!)

The screening consisted of a visual (eyeball) scan from a staff
dermatologist after filling out numerous forms. Upon leaving we
were given the opportunity to pick from any number of f'ree
sunscreens that were in baskets at our disposal.

I took some samples home, read the ingredients, and said to
myself "I will never use these - there are too many
petrochemicals in here". I did rub some on the top of my hand
and couldn't wait to wash it off.

As synchronicity has it, I came home to read one of my favorite
online writers Mike Adams (who I hope to get on a teleseminar one
day!) writings on how sunscreens cause cancer.

His topic is on how the sunscreen myth and he states his opinion
that sunscreens cause cancer. His argument highlights two things.

One is that sunscreens interfere with Vitamin D synthesis which
is implicated in some forms of cancer (read more about this in
his f'ree report on The Healing Power of Sunlight and Vitamin D
on his site http://www.newstarget.com ).

The other is that sunscreens are full of petrochemicals that are
cancer causing.

In Mike Adams' Consumer Alert he also brings up that our
ancestors used sunlight for nourishment and that saying sunlight
is bad for you is like saying water is bad for you.
(To read more about this go to: http://tinyurl.com/yrbaz7 )

The part that interested me the most were the answers to the
questions that I had when I came home from U of P telling myself
"What can we do naturally to protect ourselves from any of the
harmful rays of the sun short of staying indoors?"

Here are recommendations based on some of Mike Adams' material:

--Best natural sunscreen without petrochemicals is Caribbean Blue
Natural Basics "Sun Shield" found at
http://www.gocaribbeanblue.com

--Rubbing aloe vera on the skin as well as smearing berries on
your skin, as well as shea butter can work as a natural
sunscreens

--He said the best sunscreen is our internal sunscreen that we
can build with nutrition. If we eat superfoods such as
chlorella, spirulina, goji berries, raspberries, blackberries,
blueberries, astaxanthin, and carrots it increases our natural UV
protection (it takes about 30 days of this type of nutrition to
boost skin levels)

2. Tips if you must tan.. . .
===========================

--Do a body scrub to prepare your skin (salt scrub or loofa pad)

--Take a minimum of 1 tsp of Cod Liver Oil daily

--Eat foods high in antioxidants, especially berries (drink
Ningixia Red juice from Young Living)

--If you want to shield some of the sun's rays, use Caribbean
Blue Natural Basics "Sun Shield" found at
http://www.gocaribbeanblue.com

--Rub pure aloe vera on your body if you choose not to use "Sun
Shield"

--Get small amounts of sun for four consecutive days (about 30
minutes) which will give you a good base

--Flip over every 10 minutes

--Drink plenty of water

--Moisturize your body with chemical-free moisturizer

(Young Living's product are all chemical free - Sandalwood
Moisture Cream is great for the face, Sensation is fab for the
body, and Wolfberry Eye Cream is great for the areas around the
eyes! - and the ART Skin Care System is amazing too)

--Shower after sunning

4. Essential Oil Tip: Lavaderm
================================

Lavaderm Cooling Mist is a great spray for after exposure to the
sun, especially if your skin is feeling hot. It is made up of a
special formulation of lavender essential oil and aloe vera.

Order your essential oils from your Young Living
distributor or by going to http://tinyurl.com/aenfp

=================================
5. Success Tip: Sir George Porter
=================================

"I have no doubt that we will be successful in harnessing the
sun's energy... If sunbeams were weapons of war, we would have
had solar energy centuries ago."

~ Sir George Porter

6.Recipe of the Week: Chinese Wolfberry and Sea Bass Soup
==========================================================

1 sea bass (any fish seems to work)
½ cup goji berries (wolfberries)
1 pound mushrooms
1 scallion, chopped
5 slices of fresh ginger
5 cups of broth
Salt (use a natural mineral-rich salt, if you can)
5 Tablespoons rice wine

--1 teaspoon hoisin sauce
--Smear fish with 1 tbsp of rice wine and a little salt.
--Add in the wolfberries, button mushrooms, scallion, ginger and
hoisin sauce.
--Boil the stock in a separate medium to large sauce pan.
--Place the seasoned fish into the sauce pan containing the
stock.
--Simmer the soup until the fish is done (about 20 minutes)
--Add rice wine and salt to season before serving.

(Note from Marilee: You can get delicious wolfberries from Young
Living! Item No. 6360 - order from your Young Living Distibutor

7. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

Joan, a hard working career woman, spent almost all of her
vacation sunbathing on the roof of her hotel. She wore a bathing
suit the first day, but on the second, she decided that no one
could see her way up there, and she slipped out of it for an
overall tan. She'd hardly begun when she heard someone running up
the stairs. She was lying on her stomach, so she just pulled a
towel over her back. "Excuse me, miss," said the flustered
assistant manager of the hotel, out of breath from running up the
stairs. "The Hilton doesn't mind your sunbathing on the roof, but
we would very much appreciate your wearing a bathing suit as you
did yesterday." "What difference does it make?" Joan asked rather
calmly. "No one can see me up here, and besides, I'm covered with
a towel." "Not exactly," said the embarrassed man. "You're lying
on the dining room skylight."
