1. Keen what? - A Delicious High Protein Food You Will Love
============================================================

Many people think "quinoa" (pronounced Keen-wah) is a grain but
it's not - it is a seed related to the Spinach family.

Even though it is a seed, quinoa cooks and tastes like a grain.

The earliest records of its use go back 5,000 years to the
Incas, but it is now being rediscovered and used as a new super
food.

Quinoa is the ideal gluten-free replacement for people
who have to avoid grains, such as candida sufferers and celiacs.

Celiacs benefit from having a gluten free alternative and
candida sufferers are thrilled to find out that it doesn't
feed the candida organism - it feeds the normal bowel bacteria.

But you don't have to suffer from one of these complaints to get
the benefit of it. Quinoa is a complete source of protein,
containing all the essential amino acids that we need to be
healthy.

This makes it ideal to form part of a vegetarian diet,
particularly as it is easily digested. The benefits don't stop
there. It is a rich source of fiber and contains more essential
minerals than traditional grains.

It is also a good source of the important mineral magnesium, and
magnesium plays many roles in our body, contributing to lowering
blood pressure, reducing inflammation and controlling our blood
sugar levels.

This makes it a good food for diabetics, migraine sufferers,
arthritis sufferers, heart patients and sufferers from
other inflammatory diseases.

Quinoa has high levels of the important antioxidants copper
and manganese as well. Tests show that it is a rich source
of these minerals along with calcium, iron, phosphorus,
potassium and zinc, richer than the usually used grains of
wheat, barley and corn.

Quinoa can be used in any meal, it is an ideal breakfast food.
I like to cook carrots and onions in my quinoa for breakfast.

It can also be made as a couscous style salad for lunch or used
in evening meals.

Some quinoa dishes recommend soaking it before cooking. You can
add probiotics to the soaking water which increases its digestive
benefits.

Give Quinoa a try, it has many fans, and for good reason. It
can be found in most health food stores or online.

2. Essential Oil Tip: Keep the 'Skeeters Away!
=====================================================

Have mosquitoes been putting a hole in your plans this summer?

Do you realize how effective essential oils can be in repelling
mosquitos?

Citronella is the best known essential oil for repelling bugs.

Most people think of the "citronella candle" (that is usually
stinky and toxic - because it is usually petrochemical based,
not natural and organic), they don't know that citronella is
a natural essential oil.

Natural citronella is found in Young Living's blend Purification
(which is great for bugs in general - and great for skin too!)

There are other essential oils that can also be effective:

--clove
--eucalyptus
--lemon grass
--peppermint
--tea tree
--cedarwood

Make your own repellent lotion by whipping together 2 oz of water
and 2 oz of vegetable oil and adding 120 drops of your chosen
oil. Make your own spray by taking 10 oz vodka (or rubbing
alcohol), 1 oz of olive oil and 120 drops of essential oil and
shaking in a spray bottle.

--Purification is a YL blend that is fabulous

3. Success Tip: Dr. Joyce Brothers
=====================================

Success is a state of mind.

If you want success, start thinking
of yourself as a success.

4. Recipe of the Week: Spicy Quinoa
==================================================

This is quite an elaborate recipe in some ways. Simple Quinoa
recipes can usually be found on the packs you buy it in, so I
thought I'd give something a bit more exotic to try.

Can serve up to eight.

1 cup Quinoa
1 ½ teaspoon olive oil
½ onion, diced
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
½ fresh green chili, chopped
1 heaped teaspoon turmeric
1 heaped teaspoon coriander
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon salt
1 ¾ cups water
½ cup fresh or frozen peas.

· Rinse the Quinoa thoroughly to remove coating.
· Saute the onions until soft. Add the chili, ginger and Quinoa
and cook for one minute. As the Quinoa cooks, you should see a
spiral form on the grain.
· Add the turmeric, coriander, cinnamon and salt then cook for
one minute.
· Add the water and simmer for fifteen minutes.
· Stir in the peas and cook until tender and the water absorbed.
· Fluff with a fork and serve.
· Some people enjoy chopped cilantro leaves on this dish.

5. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

Passive Aggressive Peter and the Skeeter

Peter was trying to sleep, but as he tried a mosquito came
in and disturbed his sleep with its sound "bzzzzzz, bzzzzzz."

He gets very irritated. He tries to cover his ear but the
problem remains. Eventually he gets up and catches the
mosquito in his hand. He doesn't want to kill the insect,
but still wants to take revenge.

He starts singing a lullaby, "Rock a bye baby..."

After some time he finds the mosquito falling into deep sleep in
his hands. So he bends over his hands and says
"Bzzzzzzzzzzzz Bzzzzzzzzzzzzz."
