1. Would You Watch Smell-O-Vision?
===================================

My guess is that your answer is "no",
actually, an emphatic "no"!

Of course, I'm assuming that you are an
essential oiler of the therapeutic type
(not the Bed Bath and Beyond type)
and you know that if something commercial
(during a commercial, ha ha) comes out
with scent - it is bound to be artificial,
perfume-y, and probably toxic.

Smell-o-vision is not a new concept.
It has been around since the late 1950's.

When it came out - it came out in movie theatres.
Smell-o-vision adds scent to the viewing
experience of the Big Screen. It allows viewers
to smell what is going on in the film.

In 1959, a film entitled "Behind the Great Wall",
used the air conditioning system to scent the
theatre, known then as Aroma-Rama.

In 1960 a film entitled "Scent of Mystery",
produced by Mike Todd Jr, was the first to use
what is now called Smell-o-vision.

It failed shortly after being introduced because
of the problems getting the scent to be in sync
with the story line.

For the 1982 movie "Polyester",audiences used
scratch-and-sniff cards while watching the movie.

It hasn't really caught on, has it? Not yet.

Well now there is even a newer idea of experiencing
the scents/sense of smell with an everyday action.. .

. . .on the computer!

There is now software with an attachment for the
computer that goes into the USB port which will
release aroma while you are on the computer.

I'm sharing this with you because of the concept - not
because I am recommending this company because I am not.

Most likely they are using perfume/chemical fragrances,
and that is not what I would ever use personally or
recommend for health and well-being (but if you are
interested in checking this out it is: Trisenx -
www.trisenx.com ).

The bottom line is that things are moving toward the
true Virtual Reality experience and those of you who use
essential oils can get even more creative with ideas
like this - but offer the 'healthy' experience of it -
with your therapeutic grade oils!

2. Essential Oil Tip: Safely Keep Rabbits Away
===============================================

I had a call from a distributor today asking me
if there is an essential oil that we can put in our
gardens to keep rabbits away from our pansies and other
flowers they like to eat - one that will not hurt the
rabbit or the flower.

I don't recall ever coming across something for this
in testimonials that I've read or in any of the egroups or
forums (and if any of you have, please send it in!).

I don't have that problem so I've not had to address it myself. .
. . .but I did some research and this is what I've come up with:

First of all, I know from some natural lawn professionals that
if you take plain soapy water and put it on the lawn, or plants,
or ivy, etc. . . it becomes a safe non-toxic fixative for
something else that you need to put on that area.

In my research I came across a commercial deterrent for rabbits
that does use essential oils, but it has some other toxic stuff
in it - but I noticed what types of oils they used and said were
effective.

They noted they used essential oils that had these elements:

--citrus
--spice
--menthol

So here is what I would do/try for this problem (with my YL
products), based on those factors:

--Make a soapy water mixture with Thieves Household
Cleaner and unscented Bath Gel that would stand as the safe
fixative, and the 'Thieves' brings in the 'spice'.

--Sprinkle that mixture over the area

--Make a spray of:
-distilled water
-orange oil and/or lemon oil
-eucalyptus

--Spray over the area

I'm going to call her back with this suggestion.......but
if any of you out there have anything specific that you have
used - send it in! and I'll be happy to give you public thanks!

3. Fun Quote: ~ Robin Williams

4. Recipe of the Week: Polenta Lasagna with Portabellas and Kale
=================================================================

A great Vegan Lasagna for a Holiday Meal!

This is what you need:

1 18-ounce package prepared polenta

1/2 large onion, chopped

1 large portabella mushroom, cut into 1/4-inch pieces (about 2
cups, chopped)

4 cloves garlic, minced or pressed

1/2 bunch kale (about 8 ounces after trimming), center rib
removed and chopped into bite-sized pieces (may substitute
spinach or other greens)

1 teaspoon dried basil

salt and pepper to taste

Cheese sauce (below)

1 1/4 cups marinara sauce (homemade or in a jar)

1/4 cup pitted kalamata olives, chopped

vegan soy parmesan

"Cheese" sauce:
1/2 cup extra-firm silken tofu
1/2 cup unsweetened soy milk
1/2 cup vegetable broth
2 tbsp. cashew butter or tahini
1 tsp. onion powder
1 1/2 tbsp. nutritional yeast
1/2 tsp. salt (optional)
1/8 tsp. white pepper
2 tsp. corn starch

--Preheat oven to 375° F.
--Spray the bottom and sides of a 8x8-inch
baking dish with non-stick spray and set aside.

--Place the cheese sauce ingredients into a blender or food
processor and puree until completely smooth.
--Set aside.

--Sauté the onions and portabellas in a non-stick skillet until
the mushrooms begin to exude their juices.

--Add the garlic and sauté for one more minute.

--Add the kale, basil, and 1/4 cup water.

--Sauté until the kale is wilted and tender and the water has
evaporated.
--Add the cheese sauce and cook, stirring, until thickened.
--Check seasoning and add salt and pepper if needed.

--Remove from the heat.

--Cut the polenta into 1/4-inch thick slices.
--Line the bottom of the baking dish with half of the slices,
overlapping slightly if possible.

--Spread 1/2 cup of the marinara sauce over the polenta,
and then spread the kale mixture over the sauce.

--Sprinkle the chopped olives over the kale and top with the
remaining polenta.

--Spread the remaining marinara sauce over the top and sprinkle
with soy parmesan.

--Bake for 25 minutes.

--Remove from oven and allow to cool for 5 or 10 minutes before
serving.

5. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

A man was blissfully driving along the highway, when he saw the
Easter Bunny hopping across the middle of the road. He swerved to
avoid hitting the Bunny, but unfortunately the rabbit jumped in
front of his car and was hit. The basket of eggs went flying all
over the place. Candy, too.

The driver, being a sensitive man as well as an animal lover,
pulled over to the side of the road, and got out to see what had
become of the Bunny carrying the basket. Much to his dismay, the
colorful Bunny was dead.

The driver felt guilty and began to cry.

A woman driving down the same highway saw the man crying on the
side of the road and pulled over. She stepped out of her car and
asked the man what was wrong.

"I feel terrible," he explained, "I accidentally hit the Easter
Bunny and killed it. There may not be an Easter because of me.
What should I do? "

The woman told the man not to worry. She knew exactly what to do.
She went to her car trunk, and pulled out a spray can. She walked
over to the limp, dead Bunny, and sprayed the entire contents of
the can onto the little furry animal.

Miraculously the Easter Bunny came back to life, jumped up,
picked up the spilled eggs and candy, waved its paw at the two
humans and hopped on down the road. 50 yards away the Easter
Bunny stopped, turned around, waved and hopped on down the road
another 50 yards, turned, waved, hopped another 50 yards and
waved again!!!!

The man was astonished.

He said to the woman, "What in heaven's name is in your spray
can? What was it that you sprayed on the Easter Bunny?"

The woman turned the can around so that the man could read the
label.

It said: "Hair spray. Restores life to dead hair. Adds permanent
wave."
