1. Self-Care Shoulder Solutions
================================

Last week at this time I was just about
writhing in pain from what had been diagnosed
as a "frozen shoulder".

There was no way I could get my fingertips on the
keyboard to write and send you my newsletter (yes,
it is always fresh content) and rather than
send you some archived item in my files I decided
to shoot a quick video and send it to you to
let you know exactly what was happening with me.

I was taken back by the outpouring of emails
that came in from so many of you! You sent
suggestions, sympathies, healing energy and love,
insights, your own tips, and similar stories
because some of you have this now too.

Thank you so much for writing in - I can't tell
you how much that has meant to me!

There is another part to this past week's events
that I didn't share with you yet which is rather ironic.

The day my shoulder froze, so did my computer. And my
hard drive crashed. The optimist in me said "well
there is no better time for that to happen than now -
when I can't use it anyway!"

Yes, big messages from the Universe coming my way,
and I'm paying VERY CLOSE ATTENTION and working on
the lessons.

Consequently I'm making some adjustments in my work
and my life to further improve my self-care and
to not work as hard.

That is not to say that I think that working hard
caused this problem - there were other contributing
factors (listed below) but I do think that this
'nudge on the shoulder' from the Universe is a message
to make some changes.

So, my intention now is to do less and deliver more to you.
I actually have that formula and have not worked with it
much - I will now - and you'll be hearing about it in
the future.

Meanwhile the transition to this model will be seamless.

You will only see the changes if you look for them.

But one change I can tell you about is that for the
summer I will be sending this newsletter every other week
- and on the opposite weeks I will sending you something
short and special.

So how is my shoulder now?

Watch this video and see the amazing progress in just one week:
http://snipurl.com/hsl_vid_shouldersolutions ( 1 min 48 sec)

One of my favorite lines that I use when I teach is
"Our wound can become a gift to the world."

For those of us who are healers and helpers - we can use the
experience of our own condition - not to project, but to share,
teach, and derive compassion from for others.

I would like to share with you here some of the things that I
did that helped me with my condition and to have the tremendous
progress that I did. I have to say here that I am not a physician
and I do not diagnose or prescribe so this is for educational
purposes only and if you have this problem please seek medical
advice.

When my chiropractor diagnosed me (I chose not to go through
conventional medical processes) he had an explanation that made
perfect sense: "the muscles around the problem area severely
tighten up and do not move so to protect that injured area" - thus
the reason, along with the inflammation, for the pain and immobility.

I think when we can perceive and understand how nature is practicing
its Divine Wisdom to heal it's so much easier to deal with
and tolerate.

Here are therapies and practices I immediately employed:

--Ice for 20 minutes every hour

--Direct Application of Young Living Essential Oils
These are the main oils that I used
interchangeably and ongoing:
Balsam fir
Lemongrass
Trauma Life
Pan Away
Peppermint
Marjoram
Frankincense
Palo Santo

--Healing Touch
I did this on myself - mostly "Hands in Motion" and pulling
the congested energy and pain away from the shoulder in the
energy field.

I also worked on the physical body above and below the area
deep in the tissues and down the arm intuitively following
the meridians to keep the energy pathways open so that the
energy /chi could continue to flow to the area of need.

--Sound
I did toning into my shoulder. In my healing practice I used
toning (with my own voice) to open blocked areas of energy or
to facilitate the delivery of energy - it is an amazing amplifier
of energy and an incredible vibrational healing force.
I just turned my head to the side and took my right hand to create
a vessel for the sound and toned into my problem shoulder.

The only hard part about doing this is that my dog Prin would go
crazy.

--Light
We have this really cool device that delivers moonlight.
Moonlight is a very relaxing light force. It is also effective
at eliminating pathogenic organisms along nerve pathways.

--Exercise
I knew movement was important and learned that moving up to
the edge of the pain - but not into the pain during the inflammation
process was important. Leaning forward and letting my arm dangle
and swing on its own - this was very difficult at first.
My Physical Therapist sister-in-law guided me in this.

--Supplements
Sulfurzynme from Young Living - the natural anti-inflammatory
MSM product with wolfberries
Fish oils
Ningxia Red juice
I will tell you the first two nights the pain was so severe I did take
Advil 200 mg.
I am waiting for my order to get BLM from Young Living!

--Acupuncture
My acupuncturist Wayne confirmed for me something that had
me suspicious. I thought that possibly my intestinal system
was a contributing factor here and sure enough the exact problem area
was on the stomach and small intestine meridian.
Wayne worked with me addressing the pain but also balancing
the other points - he does Five Element Acupuncture (not classical).
This also made sense to me to help me understand the incredible nausea
that I had with this.

--Electro-Stim
I had a wonderful session with Mei Ming Racier - a pain specialist
who has a great Energy Medicine electro-stim machine that she uses
with the Young Living Oils (she just presented this up in NYC at the
Urban Zen Center for Holistic Studies owned by famous designer Donna Karan).
This was incredibly helpful and I'm hoping to get back to her for at least
one more session.

--Alkalinizing Foods
Inflammation always involves acidity........so eating veggies and fruit
were important - and taking Cal-Mag too (calcium/magnesium which helps
to alkalinize)

--Love
I believe the greatest healing force that exists is love. To know others
care and contribute to your healing from their caring is a very powerful thing.

I would like to thank all of you who wrote in and
these special folks who took some time with me either
in person, hands on, through cyberspace, or on the phone.......

Several of you wrote in saying that Myofascial Release work
is very good for this.I didn't avail myself to this yet but
I am very interested. If anyone knows of
someone in the Southern New Jersey area - let me know.

Last, but not least, how did this thing happen?

This is the most important thing because when we can
understand why - then we can work on the causative plane.

Yes, I can say that I was carrying heavy furniture two
days before this where I probably hurt my shoulder doing
so (although I didn't feel pain at the time), but I can
also say that it was a very emotional weekend
for me.

Mother's Day is often a difficult day for me
since that passing of my Mom five years ago - and
I know many of you without mothers can relate.
So I'm sure that was a contributing factor as well.

I was also clearing out the family home filling bags
and bags of items to go to Good Will. Interesting
that my acupuncturist said that the 'small intestine
is about sorting out' - I exclaimed "that's exactly
what I was doing right before this happened!"

Much of what is written out there about causation
has to do with hormones in middle aged women.
I fit that categorically and the connection makes
me curious. I searched for more information but
haven't come across any research regarding this -
if any of you have good solid information related to
this please send it my way. I'm very curious plus I
can make it available for others.

The two other areas that are often noted with this
condition are Stress and Diabetes. Stress was a factor
for me but not diabetes.

Well I hope this little journey of mine this past
week can offer insight to you about this condition
and offer you some tools and ideas to help others who
may encounter this problem.

One last thought........

. . there are gifts in every adversity - I had many
little gifts this week, one of which was just stopping
and resting (although it sounds like I had a busy week,
doesn't it? I did rest alot though).

I was talking with my girlfriend who had a frozen
shoulder for 7 months last year. She was a massage
therapist who had to stop work.

She said it really freed her up to explore and
come across things in her life she would have not
had the opportunity for had this not happened.

I, who loves a play on words, grabbed this phrase from
our conversation and it is my mantra now........
>>> The freeze frees <<<

2. Essential Oil Tip: Tendonitis
========================================

We made this blend at home.........

I used this Tendonitis blend #1 from the
Essential Desk Reference. It was very helpful
and very relaxing (probably the valerian in it!)

--4 drops vetiver
--4 drops valerian
--8 drops wintergreen

Neat or Dilute 50/50.
Gently massage 4-6 drops on affected
areas 2-4 times daily.

4. Recipe of the Week: Shoulder of Spring Lamb
with Flageolet Beans and Olive Relish
===================================================

1 ½ pounds dried flageolet beans (about 3 cups)

1 large onion, quartered

1 bay leaf

A few unpeeled garlic cloves, plus 4 garlic cloves sliced

Thyme sprigs

Salt and pepper

2 boneless spring lamb shoulders, about 3 pounds each, tied into roasts

Rosemary sprigs

Fruity olive oil

2 cups dry white wine, such as Sauvignon Blanc

1 small bunch flat-leaf parsley

Olive Relish (see below)

--Pick over the flageolet beans and rinse them well.
Set them to boil in a large heavy pot with enough cold water to
cover by 3 inches.

--Add the onion, bay leaf, unpeeled garlic and a large thyme sprig.

--When water boils, turn the flame to low and let the beans simmer
gently until quite tender, about 1 hour if they are from a recent
crop, longer if not.

--Once the beans are done, stir a good spoonful of salt into the
cooking liquid, and let the beans cool in their broth. The beans
can be cooked early in the day, or even a day ahead and refrigerated.

--Preheat the oven to 375°F. Season the lamb roasts with salt and
pepper. Insert the slices of garlic in the loose flesh on the underside
of the roasts.

--Lay in a few rosemary and thyme sprigs in the bottom of a roasting pan.
Set the lamb on top. Drizzle a little olive oil over the lamb.
Pour the white wine into the pan.

--Roast the lamb for 45 minutes to an hour, or until the exterior is
nicely browned and the internal temperature reads 130°F. Remove the
lamb to a platter, cover loosely, and let it rest.

--Scrape up the juices from the bottom of the roasting pan with a wooden
spoon, taking care to dissolve the caramelized brown bits clinging here
and there.

--Pour the pan juices through a fine-meshed strainer into a small saucepan.
Skim off any surface fat, and reheat the pan juices just before serving.

--Drain the flageolets, reserving their liquid, and put them in a shallow pan.

--Season them with salt and pepper, a little chopped thyme and a
good splash of fruity olive oil. Add a cup of the bean broth and
reheat the beans gently.

--Chop the parsley and slice the lamb.

--Pour the flageolets onto a warmed platter and arrange lamb slices
over the beans. Spoon some of the warm pan juices over the lamb.

--Scatter the parsley over everything and serve. Pass the olive relish,
thinned with pan juices if you like.

Olive Relish

--1 cup oil-cured Moroccan olives, pitted

--1 cup Niçoise olives, pitted

--2 teaspoons capers, well rinsed

--2 small garlic cloves, smashed to a paste with a little salt

--Finely chopped zest of half a small lemon

--Juice of 1 small lemon

--1 teaspoon chopped thyme

--2 anchovy fillets, well rinsed and chopped (optional)

--About ¾ cup olive oil

--Salt and pepper

--Pinch of cayenne or red pepper flakes (optional)

Put the olives, capers, garlic, lemon zest, lemon juice, thyme,
anchovies and ½ cup olive oil in a blender or food processor and
grind to a paste.

Make the texture of the relish to your preference rough or smooth.
Pulsing the ingredients makes it rough; for a smoother texture,
let the machine run for a few minutes. (For a more rustic version,
hand-chop the ingredients.)

Scrape the olive relish into a small bowl. Taste and adjust the
seasoning, adding pepper - or a little cayenne or red pepper flakes -
as desired and salt if necessary.

Thin with a little more olive oil to loosen the paste.

Men vs. Women on "Discussing a Haircut"

>>> Women <<<

Woman2: Oh! You got a haircut! That's so cute!

Woman1: Do you think so? I wasn't sure when she gave me
the mirror. I mean, you don't think it's too fluffy
looking?

Woman2: Oh God no! No, it's perfect. I'd love to get my hair
cut like that, but I think my face is too wide.
I'm pretty much stuck with this stuff I think.

Woman1: Are you serious? I think your face is adorable.
And you could easily get one of those layer cuts -
that would look so cute I think. I was actually going
to do that except that I was afraid it would accent my
long neck.

Woman2: Oh - that's funny! I would love to have your neck!
Anything to take attention away from this two-by-four
I have for a shoulder line.

Woman1: Are you kidding? I know girls that would love to have
your shoulders. Everything drapes so well on you. I mean,
look at my arms - see how short they are? If I had your
shoulders I could get clothes to fit me so much easier.

>>> Men <<<

Man2: Haircut?

Man1: Yeah.

6. HSL's "Inner Circle" News
=============================

We had a great experience last week
on the "Visual Teleseminar" that I ran
for those of you who were able to
join me.

You actually saw me on your computer
screen (and we played with the
web conferencing program so that I
could see some of you too! It was
fun to see Moshka in Hawaii!)

I demonstrated "How to Do A Castor
Oil Pack" and showed the viewers
LIVE how to put it together. (this
was right before the Big Freeze
of my shoulder and computer!)

Anyway - for those of you who were
on this live event I would love to
hear how you enjoyed this and if
you learned and enjoyed this learning
model!
