============================================1. A Tribute to My Mother============================================
My mother and best friend, made her transition two years agotoday. It is not possible for me to send out a publication onthis date without acknowledging that, and her. Not just becauseof her passing, but because she was so much a part of what HomeSpa Lady is today.
My mother, Mary Haley Tolen, carried and passed on to me theinner knowledge of the power of healing, faith, aligningwith natural forces, and the power of love.
The family name,"Haley", has the derivation of the word "heal"(hale = heal), so it is no mistake that our family consists ofmostly health care professionals, healing arts practitioners, andbeauty experts.
Mom used melodious song, gentle touch, delicious soup, and lovefor healing. Her kitchen was the hearth for healing, and thebackyard expressed colorful plants, healthy herbs, friendlytrees, good dirt, and rocks and stones to make us feel better.She knew that the spirit had to be fed as well, and that ourintuition would tell us how. Prayer was important throughout theday.
She was proud when I became an Intensive Care Unit nurse. Butfrom her I knew the real way to heal was "to put the patientin the best place for nature to act upon them." (Quote fromFlorence Nightingale).
When I discovered the American Holistic Nurses Association mymother (although not a nurse) and I both became members. We spentyears traveling and conferencing together with this group. Shealways knew I was going to be a spokeswoman in the world forthese principles and practices to help people incorporate them intheir everyday life.
My mother left us all too soon, just eighteen monthsafter Dad died. Because of the way she taught us to revere life,nature, and each other, it enabled us as a family to create asacred environment in the home for their transitions.
We created a sacred space in our family home for Mom'stransition,just as she and I did for Dad when he died. Webrought in a wonderfully supportive and forward-thinking hospice,Samaritan Hospice (http://samaritanhospice.org), that supportedour natural philosophy. We practiced our holistic therapies -healing touch, massage, reflexology, essential oils, and organicnutrition. We surrounded her with love, reflecting back to herwhat she provided us for years.
At 12:12, on the 12th of April, the day after Easter, Mom diedpeacefully in our family home with all her loved ones encirclingher.I now know from beliefs reinforced by this experience thatit is possible to create conditions for a very peaceful passing.
I created a scholarship fund in memory of my parents called theM. J. Tolen Scholarship Fund. Its purpose is to help financeeducation in Complementary Therapies in End-of-Life Care.Individuals who are interested in learning any of thesetherapies, and will apply that knowledge to offering end-of-lifecare, can apply to this fund. This fund is housed at SamaritanHospice where they also offer complementary therapies in theirhospice care.

===============================================2. Natural Easter Egg Dyes===============================================
There are so many possibilities in your kitchen to access naturalcolors for Easter Eggs.
Spices, fruits, tea bags, coffee, frozen vegetables, and onions,are all things you can use to naturally color your eggs. Cleancoffee filters will hold the colored eggs until they are dry.
Use the following recipes to create the colors indicated:
--Yellow Fill a jar with water (enough to cover an egg) Add 2 tsp. ground Cumin and stir Heat the jar in the microwave 2 - 3 minutes Add the hard-boiled egg into the dye jar and let it sit overnight Remove the egg from the dye jar and place on a piece of paper to dry
--Orange Fill a jar with water (enough to cover an egg) Add 1/2 tsp. ground Turmeric and stir Heat the jar in the microwave 2 - 3 minutes Add the hard-boiled egg into the dye jar and let it sit overnight Remove the egg from the dye jar and place on a piece of paper to dry
--Black Currant Fill a jar with water (enough to cover an egg) Add 2 Black Currant tea bags to the jar Heat in the microwave 2-3 minutes Place the hard-boiled egg into the jar and let it sit overnight Remove the dyed egg and place on a piece of paper to dry
--Rose Hip Fill a jar with water (enough to cover an egg) Add 2 Rosehip tea bags to the jar Heat in the microwave 2-3 minutes Place the hard-boiled egg into the jar and let it sit overnight. Remove the dyed egg and place on a piece of paper to dry.
--Red Pour the liquid from a jar of pickled beets into a jar Heat for 2 - 3 minutes in the microwave Add the hard-boiled egg into the beet juice and let it sit overnight Remove the dyed egg from the dye bath and let it dry on a piece of paper.
--Blue Cut the red cabbage into thin slices and place into a pot filled with water Cook the cabbage until tender and there is lots of color in the water Pour the liquid into a jar Add the cooked egg into the jar and let it sit overnight
--Green Cook spinach greens and drain the liquid into a clean dye jar Add the hard-boiled egg into the dye jar and let it sit overnight Remove the egg from the dye jar and place on a piece of paper to dry
--Brown Pour some strong coffee into a dye jar Place the hard-boiled egg into the jar Let it sit overnight or for a few days to get a darker color
You can also paint the eggs with fresh or frozen berries. Simplycrush the berries against dry boiled eggs. Try coloring on theeggs with crayons or wax pencils before boiling and dyeing them.
Now you can eat the pretty eggs too!
====================================================3. Cholesterol Myth Busted: An Egg A Day Okay====================================================
Eating eggs do not increase your risk for heart disease, contraryto popular belief.
A nutrition conference recently took place on the topic of"nature's original functional food". The conference was entitled"Where Would We Be Without the Egg?"
Functional foods are defined as "those providing health benefitsbeyond basic nutrition and include whole, fortified, enriched orenhanced foods which have a potentially beneficial effect onhealth…".
Eggs have not been viewed as functional because of how they havebeen thought to raise cholesterol levels. But Dr. Clare M.Hasler, Ph.D, of the University of Illinois, stated at thatconference that "it is now known that there is little if anyconnection between dietary cholesterol and blood cholesterollevels…"
Leaders in the field of "whole foods" nutrition are highlightingnow that eating cholesterol does not raise your cholesterol.
Our liver is what makes over 95% of our cholesterol. When we eatfoods that turn to sugar real fast (high glycemic) - like grains,sugar, soda, and juice, and that sugar is not needed in thebloodstream - then it goes to the liver and is converted tosaturated fat.
An increase in cholesterol is almost always due to eating toomany grains and sugar, not from eating too many eggs and fats.As a matter of fact, eggs improve bad cholesterol.
A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutritionshowed that consuming eggs improved bad cholesterol, and eatingtwo eggs a day maintained normal levels. http://tinyurl.com/htud3
The type of eggs we eat is very important, however. We should eatonly organic eggs. Dr Mercola is a leading authority in holisticmedicine and has a great website on many holistic health issues.He shares guidelines as to what to look for when buying eggs andwhere to get them:
"--Check the container to make sure the eggs are free rangeorganic.
--If your eggs have omega-3 added that is a plus, but notnecessary as you have to be careful of the source anyway.
--If you can, contact the company providing your healthy eggs andfind out what they are feeding their chickens. An egg isconsidered organic if the chicken was only fed organic food andwill not have bioaccumulated high levels of pesticides from thegrains (mostly bioengineered corn) fed to typical chickens. Ifthey are using flaxseed to increase the omega-3 fats they won'tbe as beneficial as if they feed the chickens seaweed or kelp,which have the far more beneficial DHA and EPA.
--I recommend purchasing your eggs from the farmer directly if atall possible; this way you can be certain of the quality. If youcannot find a farmer to sell you eggs directly, then organic eggsfrom the store would be your next best option. It is also wiseNOT to refrigerate your eggs. If you have ever been to Europe orSouth America and gone into the grocery stores you will know thatthis is commonly done in those countries."
=================================4 Are You Toxic?=================================
Spring cleaning the body is good for everyone, especially forpeople who are toxic. In my teachings and lectures on cleansing Iam often asked by people "how do I know I'm toxic?".
Answer these questions to find out if you are toxic:
--Are you sensitive to perfumes, car fumes, chemicals, caffeine,alcohol, medications?
--Do you have gastrointestinal issues - such as bloating, bad-breath, intolerance to foods high in fat and starch?
--Do you have skin disorders - such as hives, acne, psoriasis,eczema, increased itching?
--Are you frequently fatigued and tired, accompanied by jointpain and muscle weakness?
--Do you have "brain fog", such as mental spaceyness and aninability to concentrate?
--Do you have a lot of allergies, frequent sinus infections,asthma, or frequent headaches?
--Do you get sick frequently?
--Do you take many medications or drugs?
--Do you drink alcohol more than three times a week?
You are probably toxic if you answered yes to more than three ofthese questions.
Remember that toxicity is not just about petrochemical exposure.It can also be related to congestion of the organs of elimination(colon, liver) and putrefaction of undigested foods and wastes inthe intestinal system.
You should cut down on your exposure to environmental toxins andget rid of any product on your home (cleaning or personal care)that is petrochemically based.
Consider cleansing your body with healing, whole nutrition, and agreat product through Young Living called the Rejuvenate Kit.This kit focuses on the cleansing of the colon and liver. Toorder go to: http://tinyurl.com/aenfp
======================================================5. Anti-Aging Medicine: The Chelation Trend======================================================
One of the greatest therapies available today for getting rid ofthe most serious toxins that gentle cleansing alone can't do isIntravenous Chelation Therapy.
The heavy metals that we have all been exposed to throughdentistry, vaccinations, foods, households, and even playing withthose little balls of mercury as kids, have wreaked havoc on ourminds and bodies more than we even want to know.
IV Chelation has been most popular in years past as analternative therapy for heart disease and arteriosclerosis. It isoffered, and has been for years, by physician members of theAmerican College for Advancement in Medicine.
The original usage of IV Chelation, which is a synthetic aminoacid EDTA that binds with molecules of minerals and metals, wasto clear the body of lead toxicity. It has been found to clearthe body of metals and arteriosclerotic plaque.
Many anti-aging physicians are offering this therapy for bothheart disease and heavy metals. Some physicians alternate theintravenous treatment with Hydrogen Peroxide. Hydrogen Peroxideis considered a "bio-oxidative therapy" that can be very powerfulin cleansing, oxygenating, and rejuvenating the body.
Our Home Spa Lady community is very lucky to have join us on aTele-Seminar one of the country's leading experts on IntravenousChelation and Heavy Metal Toxicity.
Dr. Robert Nash:
--Chairman of the American Board of Clinical Metal Toxicology--Chairman of the American Board of Integrative Medical Practice--Board Member of the Society of Integrative Medical Practice--Board Certified in Neurology--Board Certified in Pain Medicine--Acupuncturist for 12 years
is coming to our Home Spa Lady virtual community next week!
He will share with us how to tell if our bodies are burdened,what these heavy metals are doing, and how we can avoid or getrid of them.
New information on aging: Heavy metals are implicated in allaspects of aging.

===================================6. HSL's Joke, or Cute Quote, of the Week===================================
A man was blissfully driving along the highway, when he saw theEaster Bunny hopping across the middle of the road. He swerved toavoid hitting the Bunny, but unfortunately the rabbit jumped infront of his car and was hit. The basket of eggs went flying allover the place. Candy, too.
The driver, being a sensitive man as well as an animal lover,pulled over to the side of the road, and got out to see what hadbecome of the Bunny carrying the basket. Much to his dismay, thecolorful Bunny was dead.
The driver felt guilty and began to cry.
A woman driving down the same highway saw the man crying on theside of the road and pulled over. She stepped out of her car andasked the man what was wrong.
"I feel terrible," he explained, "I accidentally hit the EasterBunny and killed it. There may not be an Easter because of me.What should I do? "
The woman told the man not to worry. She knew exactly what to do.She went to her car trunk, and pulled out a spray can. She walkedover to the limp, dead Bunny, and sprayed the entire contents ofthe can onto the little furry animal.
Miraculously the Easter Bunny came back to life, jumped up,picked up the spilled eggs and candy, waved its paw at the twohumans and hopped on down the road. 50 yards away the EasterBunny stopped, turned around, waved and hopped on down the roadanother 50 yards, turned, waved, hopped another 50 yards andwaved again!!!!
The man was astonished.
He said to the woman, "What in heaven's name is in your spraycan? What was it that you sprayed on the Easter Bunny?"
The woman turned the can around so that the man could read thelabel.
It said: "Hair spray. Restores life to dead hair. Adds permanentwave."
