=============================1. The Doctor of the Future=============================
"The doctor of the future will interest the patient in the careof the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention ofdisease." --Thomas Edison
Dr.Bob Nash is way ahead of his time. Here are just some of hiscredentials:
--Author, "Common Sense Medicine"--Chairman of the American Board of Clinical Metal Toxicology--Chairman of the American Board of Integrative Medical Practice--Board Member of the Society of Integrative Medical Practice--Board Certified in Neurology--Board Certified in Pain Medicine--Acupuncturist for 12 year--Healing Touch Practitioner--Friend of Marilee's for 20 years (ha ha!)
A conventionally trained neurologist, with a background as anengineer, Dr. Nash problem-solves with his patients. He placeshigh regard on intuition, subtle energetics, electromagnetics, and how they all interplay with hard science and medicine. Thisis truly the integrative approach.
In the last chapter of his book, "Common Sense Medicine", "Dr.Bob" describes the Medicine of the Future. He paints a pictureof a Healing Center free from harmful electromagneticenvironments. Classical music resonates with each energy center(chakra), playing softly in the background. Massage and EnergyHealing techniques are offered as therapies, as well as taught toeach patient and family member. Vitamins, herbs, oils, foods, andphytonutrients are stressed in the educational programsoffered in this vacation-like experience. (I think what he isdescribing here is found in the Spa Industry! Medi-Spas arebecoming very popular!)
Part of the education in the Healing Center of the Future willfocus on the need to decrease the body's burden of heavy metals.Dr. Nash specializes in a therapy called IV Chelation, the mosteffective therapy for removing mercury and other heavy metalsfrom the body. He is a national leader in this area of medicine, serving as Chairman of the American Board of Clinical MetalToxicology.
You may not think that heavy metals are an issue for you, butwhen you hear about where we have all been exposed to them andhow, you will realize that none of us are exempt from thisproblem.
If you ever went to a dentist that put silver fillings in yourmouth, you have been exposed to, and still are being exposed to,mercury. Those amalgam fillings contain 50% mercury by weight, and can continue to off-gas mercury vapor for up to 70 years.
To learn more about how mercury vapor may be affecting you -watch this short excerpt from a video called "Uninformed Consent"at http://tinyurl.com/o2orl. Click on "Excerpt". It alsohighlights autism in children related to mercury in thevaccinations. Be warned, this video clip can be slightlyupsetting.

=================================================2. Kill Weeds Naturally Using Essential Oils=================================================
Essential oils are a great choice to naturallydestroy weeds. A study was done by the Appalachian Fruit ResearchStation in West Virginia on the herbicidal effects of plant-derived oils (aka essential oils).
Twenty five oils were tested for their herbicidal effects ondandelion leaves. The most effective oils found were red thyme, summer savory, cinnamon and clove. These were found to be themost phytotoxic.
Cinnamon had the highest herbicidal activity. This was primarilybecause of eugenol, the main component in cinnamon.
Essential oils can be used directly on the weeds. Or they can beadded to other natural products such as herbicidal soaps, toenhance their effects. These soaps work by penetrating the waxycoating on plant leaves and cause them to dry out.
Here are some online retailers to find other ways to naturallykill weeds:

==========================================================3. The Undiagnosed Disease: Sleep Problems - Take the Quiz==========================================================
Insomnia affects over 60 million Americans. Are you one of them?
Having a hard time falling asleep is not the only sign ofinsomnia. Waking up often in the middle of the night and having adifficult time falling back to sleep is another manifestation ofinsomnia. Also, if you still feel tired when you wake up, thattoo is a sign of insomnia.
Persistent stress, using stimulants or alcohol, excessive outsidestimulation (noise and light), food allergies, a lack ofexercise, and certain physical illnesses can cause difficultywith sleep.
Lack of good sleep can be one of the fastest ways to age thebody.
Robert Nash M.D. neurologist, Anti-Aging specialist, and HeavyMetal Detox Specialist, works extensively with patients who havesleep disturbances due to headaches, back pain, and other issues.Dr. Nash believes that many problems people have can be traced tosleep disturbances. He says, "I have found that most people withsymptoms that are outside most physicians' diagnostic acumen, areoften secondary to a long term sleep disturbance".
Here is a test developed by Dr. Nash to help someone determine ifthey have a sleep disturbance. If they do, it shows which brainchemical can be adjusted to return them to normal sleep.

=========================================4. SHHHHHH...Silence Your Way to Healing=========================================
I worked as a nurse for years in the hospital. I always knewthat it was one of the worst places for the body to heal.Granted, I worked in the Intensive Care Unit and it was a placewhere no one, not even staff, could tell the difference betweenday and night. The busyness and the work load in ICU is the same24/7 because of the intensity of the care needed.
One of the problems of being a patient in ICU for any length oftime is something called ICU Psychosis. This develops, notbecause of a psychiatric disease, but because there is suchoverstimulation and a lack of sleep, that psychosis developsnaturally. It's not until a patient is moved onto a regularmedical-surgical floor, where lights are turned off at night, andthere is some semblance of normal routine, that psychosis ceases.
As a nurse it was my experience that doctors never took intoconsideration the amount of sleep the patients got.Thankfully, some of that is changing. When patients now complainof noise, somebody listens.
A program called "SHHH", which stands for "Silent Hospitals HelpHealing", has been instituted at Montefiore Hospital in the BronxNew York.
Some of the changes that SHHH has prompted:
--nurses wearing soft soled shoes--beepers on vibrate--SHHH buttons worn by visitors--TV sets with headphones for patients--limited overhead paging--volume on phone ringers turned down
Other hospitals have begun addressing this concern. Many areputting in carpeting and eliminating loud paging on overheadsystems.
Yet another way where spas are more of an environment forhealing. Hey, I say the hospitals should learn from the spas!
===============================================5. Smell-o-vision - Scents and The Big Screen===============================================
Smell-o-vision adds scent to the viewing experience of the BigScreen. It allows viewers to smell what is going on in thefilm.
Real scent experiences are now in the cinema in Japan where, during the showing of the new film "The New WorWorld" (http://www.thenewworldmovie.com/ with actor Colin Farrelldirected by Terrence Malick), scents will be released. Machinesplaced under seats at the back of the theatre emit sevendifferent smells. A floral scent will spray out during lovescenes. Peppermint and rosemary are used during the emotionalcenters.
Smell-o-vision is not a new concept, it has been around since thelate 1950's. In 1959, a film entitled "Behind the Great Wall",used the air conditioning system to scent the theatre, known thenas Aroma-Rama. In 1960 a film entitled "Scent of Mystery",produced by Mike Todd Jr, was the first to use what is now calledSmell-o-vision. It failed shortly after being introducedbecause of the problems getting the scent to be in sync with thestory line.
For the 1982 movie "Polyester",audiences used scratch-and-sniffcards while watching the movie.
A spoof on smell-o-vision was done as an April Fools joke on BBCback in 1965. The man who invented smell-o-vision wasinterviewed about his new technology. He wanted to show proof ofhow it worked so he brewed coffee on the set and chopped onions.Television viewers actually called in and said that they couldsmell the aromas. They reported the aromas were "transmitted"through their television sets. These psychosomatic responses gotlots of chuckles.

=========================================7. HSL's Joke, or Cute Quote, of the Week=========================================
Spa Heaven
An 85-year-old couple, after being married for almost 60 years, died in a car crash. They had been in good health the last tenyears, mainly due to her interest in health food and exercising. When they reached the Pearly Gates, St. Peter took them to theirmansion, which was decked out with a beautiful kitchen, masterbath suite, and a Jacuzzi. As they looked around, the old manasked St. Peter how much all this was going to cost. "It's free,"St. Peter replied, "this is Heaven."
Next, they went out in the back yard to survey the championship-style golf course where the home was located. They would havegolfing privileges every day. Each week, the course changed toa new one, representing the great golf courses on earth. The oldman asked, "What are the green fees?" St. Peter replied, "This isheaven, you play for free."
Next, they went to the club house and saw the lavish buffet lunchwith the Cuisine of the World laid out. "How much to eat?" askedthe old man. "Don't you understand yet? This is heaven, it isfree!" St. Peter replied, with some exasperation. "Well, whereare the low fat and low cholesterol tables?" the old man askedtimidly. St. Peter lectured, "That's the best part - you can eatas much as you like of whatever you like, and you never get fatand you never get sick. This is Heaven."
With that, the old man went into a fit of anger, throwing downhis hat, stomping on it, and screaming wildly. St. Peter andhis wife both tried to calm him down, asking him what was wrong. The old man looked at his wife and said, "This is all your fault! If it weren't for your blasted bran muffins, I could have beenhere ten years ago!"
