1. The Scent That Makes Women Seem Younger
===========================================
The scent of grapefruit on women makes them seem younger to men.But when men wear the fragrance of grapefruit, there is no effecton women.
The Associated Press published a story in June 2005 about a studyconducted at The Smell and Taste Institute in Chicago todetermine what makes a woman smell younger than her age. Thisstudy included several middle-aged women using the scents ofbroccoli, banana, spearmint leaves, and lavender to illicit aresponse in men.
The scent of grapefruit was the only scent that remarkablychanged men's perceptions. When male volunteers were asked towrite down how old the woman with grapefruit scent was, the agewas considerably less than the women's actual age.
=============================================
2. Get Mesmer-"eyes"ized with Hypno-facials
=============================================
A little visualization, special acupoints on the face, a fewdrops of your favorite essential oil - and you've got a "Hypno-Facial".
In the high tech times of light beams, laser, andelectromagnetics, the low tech therapies of touch and nature canbe overshadowed, and even underestimated.
Aged faces and wrinkles can often be related to high levels ofstress. The hypnofacial can significantly reduce stress. Thetechnique allows the opening of energy, "chi", or "vital forces"to enter the face from the human touch and a therapeutic gradeessential oil. Combining that with a guided dialogue tovisualize the ideal self, both physically and mentally, can makesignificant improvements in the look of the face.
It's always wonderful to receive a facial. Laying back on theaestheticians comfy chair all wrapped up in nice cottons. Buthow often do we allow ourselves that? Time and money,hmmmmmmmmm.

Why not do a hypnofacial on yourself?

--First create your dialogue - the positive messages that youwant to give to yourself and your subconscious mind.

--Find out a few important points on the face to work with (hereis a link to a 45 second video demonstrationhttp://tinyurl.com/rvg8p).

--Put a few drops of your favorite essential oil on yourfingertips (rose is a great oil to use with this)

--Sit in front of a mirror

--Lovingly, not critically, give yourself a "Hypnotic Facial" bystating positive messages as you apply your oil with fingertippressure on significant points on the face

=============================================
3. Abdominal'F*at' Cells: What They Mean
==============================================
Enlarged abdominal fat cells, especially in women, are a riskfactor for heart disease and diabetes. These fat cells aresubcutaneous - right below the surface of the skin.
The August issue of the International Journal of Obesity reporteda study that diet alone is not enough to reduce the size of thesefat cells. Exercise added to the equation showed better results.
“The message is very clear,” said Tongjian You, Ph.D., instructorin geriatric medicine at Wake Forest Baptist and lead author.“Exercise is important to reducing the size of these cells, andmay one day be part of a prescription for treating the healthcomplications associated with abdominal fat.”
“The size of these fat cells predicts type 2 diabetes,independent of whether the patient is obese,” said You.
========================================
4. Dr*ug*less W*eight L*oss Tip
========================================

Part One of Two:

Daily doses of fish oils (omega-3 fats) and exercise cancontribute to w'eight l'oss.
An Australian study examined 60 people who were obese oroverweight. They were put into four groups:
--fish oil, no exercise
--exercise, no fish oil
--fish oil, exercise
--no fish oil, no exercise
No dietary restrictions for any group

In three months those who both took fish oil and exercised lostan average of 4.5 pounds. None of the other groups lost anyweight at all.
Read about study in Reuters here: http://tinyurl.com/jzhe7

Part Two of Two:
I have exciting news to share with you as a follow up to thisarticle. Make sure you read the October 4th issue of Tips of theWeek to hear what it is !

===================================
4. Essential Oil Tip: Remove Moles
===================================
To remove moles apply 1-2 drops of therapeutic grade oregano oilneat (undiluted) directly on the mole, 2-3 times daily.
If an oil becomes hot on the skin, apply regular massage oil orolive oil. Do not attempt to remove with water. Do a skinsensitivity check first by applying one drop on the inside ofyour arm.
Order your essential oils from your Young Living distributor orby going to http://tinyurl.com/aenfp

5. Success Tip
=================
Inspiration for Exercising: by Ellen Degeneres
"We have to stay in shape! My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was 60. She's 97 today and we don'tknow where the hell she is."

==================================================
6.Recipe of the Week: Lavender Stir Sticks for Tea
==================================================
--Dry a few stems of lavender (grown without pesticides)
--Dip dried stems in an egg white beaten with a little water
--Roll them in sugar and dry them on waxed paper
--Use as stir sticks in your tea
=========================================
7. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================
Ed, Al and their wives, all seniors were playing cards. Edannounced that his memory had gotten so bad, he had gone to see adoctor about the problem and the doctor had given him pills totake.
Al spoke up, "I have the same problem - what's the name of thepills he gave you?"
Ed looked puzzled for a minute and didn't say anything. Then hebrightened up and said, "What's the name of that red flower thathas a long stem and thorns?"
Al said, "rose".
"Right!", said Ed. Turning to his wife he said "Rose, what's thename of those pills I'm taking?"

1. Snakes On A Plane and No Essential Oils!===============================================
Last week I was on 10 planes in 5 days. It was not the mostfavorable time to fly as the heightened security alerts and newrestrictions were just put into place banning all liquids frombeing carried on the plane.
I was traveling as a trainer for Young Living Essential Oilscompany for their new product pre-launch regional meetings.I traveled with two fabulous guys from corporate, presenting togroups in 4 different cities in 4 days.
As I was packing for this trip I was mentally preparing creativestrategies to make sure I would have enough purified drinkingwater during my travels. I am someone who always needs to drinkwater. The thought of traveling without my water bottlewas enough to send me into a dehydrated and panicked state.
I also knew I would have to pack the essential oil bottles Inormally carry in my purse into my suitcase. That didn't seem tobother me as much as being without my water. Boy was I mistaken.Being without oils on my person in this week of travel wastorturous.
I found ways to keep accessing drinking water on and off theplanes, although it did cost alot of money ($2 - $4 for an 8ounce bottle). We had to throw our water bottles away at the gateto go through security. Then we could buy them again once we gotinto the terminals for our two hour waits. But then we had totoss them again before we got onto the plane. If you fell asleepon the plane you missed your opportunity to get your glass ofwater on the flight. That happened to me once or twice.
It is said that we don't appreciate what we have until its gone.I didn't think that that was the case for me. I love andappreciate how essential oils make my life so much easier, but Ijust didn't realize to what degree - until this past week oftravel.

Traveling is a time when I need and want my oils the most. Hereare some of the reasons why:

--Flying is Stressful

Traveling, particularly flying, is stressful even when we arethrilled about our destination. Our daily routine changes as soonas the preparation process begins - which could be several daysbefore the departure date. Our work load seems to double becausewe have to take care of everything in advance that we can't tendto while we are away.
We are already stressed out by the time the day of travelarrives. The time pressures set in even more intensely as weneed to make sure we get to the airport on time not knowing thelength of the lines. Then we have to be prepared for possibleschedule changes or delays. Help!....Give me my Sandalwood.. . !Where is my Peace & Calming. . . ? It used to be that whileriding on the shuttle or standing in lines I could grab for thesewonderful oils in my purse and put a few drops on my wrists andforehead to decrease my stress level. Now with theserestrictions, what's an oiler to do?

--Waiting in the Terminal

What we can't have on the plane we can't have in the terminal.An almost two hour wait would include one to two trips to therest room (especially when taking advantage of water drinkingopportunities).
Being without my essential oil spray bottle of Thieves (aconstant purse companion) to clean public environments forpersonal use was more difficult than I would have expected.

--Too Close for Comfort

I don't like when strangers are in my space. And I don't like tobe too close to people I don't know. There is no avoidingthis when we fly.
As an intuitive, I am highly sensitive to so many things,including people's energy. Just by being 2 to 3 inches inproximity to people I can sense their stuff (that includes theirsmells, their thoughts, and their emotions). I've even had theexperience of getting nauseated from being near toxic people,especially when it catches me off guard. This includes peoplewho may have diseases and are receiving highly toxic treatments(like chemotherapy, radiation, dialysis), to people who are onloads of medications or have lots of toxins in their body, andeven people who have toxic thoughts or emotions - I feel it all.
My essential oils are what always help me with both protecting myenergy and fending off the toxicity of others. Where is my WhiteAngelica, and how about my peppermint? I use White Angelica overmy entire body (mostly in the energy field) and rubbed on myshoulders to create a protective force field around me. Inhalingpeppermint when I am around offensive odors is incrediblyhelpful.

Here are two examples of needing my oils on a plane.

On oneflight last week I was happy to have the seat next to me vacant,but what lurked behind me was a man who must have spentseveral hours waiting for his delayed flight in the airport barand smoking lounge. He passed right out as soon as he satdown and buckled his seat belt. With his head bobbing back andmouth wide open, his snoring exhalations propelled alcohol andsmoke fumes through the space between seats right over myshoulder. In another incidence I was seated next to a lovelyolder woman resembling my grandmother and smelling like her too -Nana's favorite was Jean Nate' powder. Even as a child I couldn'tstay in her hug for more than 20 seconds because of that smell.
Normally I would have grabbed my Purification to dowse my palmsand create a self made respirator with my hands, but no oils atmy access! "Help!" "Give me my oils!"

--Prevent Respiratory Infections

Well, there might not be real snakes on the plane, but there sureare millions of microbes that like to grow in moist environments(the air in cabins is recirculated and humidified). Theunfriendly microbes can take advantage of our stress filledbodies where some immunities may be lowered. It is not uncommonfor people to develop upper and lower respiratory tractinfections after flying.
One of my airplane routines for the past nine years of usingtherapeutic essential oils in my life was to take a tissue andsprinkle my favorite respiratory blends of either Raven or RConto the tissue. I would slip this under my watchband or up mysleeve and consistently during the flight I would take aninhalation through this tissue. Doing so allow the antimicrobialactivity of the essential oil to line my nasal passages andprevent the entrance of unwanted microbes into my respiratorytract.

--Help for Swollen Feet from Flying

One of the most fascinating experiences I 've had with the oilsis visually witnessing the effect of certain oils on swollenfeet and legs. The oil blend Aroma Life, known to be supportiveto the circulatory system, has minimized swollen feet and lowerleg edema right in from of my very eyes on clients, familymembers, and myself. This blend has cypress in it whichbalances both the lymphatic and cardiovascular circulatorysystems. It also has helicrysum that is excellent for nervetissue.
Another reason to dowse myself with an oil would be to preventfeet and leg swelling. I would rub my feet and ankles with AromaLife. If I didn't have Aroma Life, I would use lavender.

--Prevent Travel Sickness

Whether its turbulence in the plane or turbulence in the stomach,there are a few essential oils that can help. I would use eitherpeppermint, DiGize, or ginger. The best way is by rubbing them onthe stomach or taking a drop internally (I would touch the sideof the cap to get small amount on my finger and then touch it tomy tongue).
What to do now that we have to fly without our essential oilbottles? Here are some creative solutions to flying withoutoils:
--Dowse yourself before you leave the house. Anticipate whatyour needs might be. Protection - White Angelica; RespiratoryCare - RC, Raven; Lower Limb Swelling - Aroma Life,
--Make baggies for your oils. Take cotton balls and saturatewith your favorite travel oil. Place in a zip lock baggie andmark it accordingly. Carry in your purse, carry-on, computer orbriefcase.
--General oiling-up. For all around well-being, to feel groundedand centered, and when in doubt use Valor on the bottom of yourfeet.
--Use Rose Ointment on top of your oil application. It helps toseal in the effects.
--Travel with Thieves Wipes. The bad news is we can't carry onThieves Spray. The good news is we can carry on Thieves Wipes.
--AromaWear. This gorgeous jewelry is designed to diffuseessential oils on your person. A great alternative to carryingour bottles with us. Call Cathy Gins for special information onthis high quality essential oil jewelry at 212-255-5126 or go to:http://www.aromawear.com

2. The Power of the Banana
===========================

Bananas, contain three natural sugars (sucrose, fructose andglucose). Combined with fiber they give an instant, sustained andsubstantial boost of energy. Research has proven that just twobananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout.No wonder the banana is favorite fruit of the world'sleading athletes. But energy isn't the only way a banana canhelp us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent asubstantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a mustto add to our daily diet.

--Depression
According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND (NationalAssociation for Mental Health in the United Kingdom) amongstpeople suffering from depression, many felt much better aftereating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, atype of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known tomake you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feelhappier.

--PMS
Forget the pills -- eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it containsregulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

--Anemia
High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobinin the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

--Blood Pressure
This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yetlow in salt, making it the perfect way to beat high bloodpressure (hypertension). So much so, the US Food and DrugAdministration has just allowed the banana industry to makeofficial claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk ofhypertension and stroke.

--Brain Power
200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helpedthrough their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast,break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Researchhas shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning bymaking pupils more alert.

--Constipation
High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restorenormal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem withoutresorting to laxatives.

--Hangovers
One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make abanana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms thestomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted bloodsugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

--Heartburn
Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if yousuffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

--Morning Sickness
Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugarlevels up and avoid morning sickness.

--Mosquito bites
Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing theaffected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people findit amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

--Nerves
Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

--Overweight and Blood Sugar Levels
Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressureat work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and saltychips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found themost obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. Thereport concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, weneed to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on highcarbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

--Ulcers
The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinaldisorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It alsoneutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating thelining of the stomach.

--Temperature control
Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that canlower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectantmothers. In Thailand, for example, pregnant women eat bananas toensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

--Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the naturalmood enhancer tryptophan.

--Smoking
Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6,B12, potassium and magnesium found in them help the body recoverfrom the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

--Stress
Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize theheartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body'swater balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises,thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalancedwith the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

--Strokes
According to research in "The New England Journal of Medicine,"eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk ofdeath by strokes by as much as 40%!

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When youcompare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice thecarbohydrates, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitaminA and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It isalso rich in potassium and is one of the best food values around.So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that wesay, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!"

Thank you Noor for this contribution!

3. B*reast Cancer Prevention Tip
=================================

There are so many preventative measures to help reduce therisk of b*reast cancer. Here is one way listed in Susun S.Weed's Book "New Menopausal Years The Wise Woman Way":
Reduce your use of seed oils. These would be sesame, sunflower,canola, soy, corn, and cottonseed. "For each 5 grams ofpolyunsaturated fat [from vegetable oil], the risk [of b*reastcancer] rose by 70 percent." (Wolk, Al, et al. Archives of IntMed (Januray 12, 1997) reported in Science News. 153:37, 1997).
Good oils to stick with are olive oil and coconut oil.

=================================================

1. Spa Tips For Your Office
===============================================
The end of the summer is a great time to strategize on how tomake the last four months of your work year most productive.
Clearing your office space and getting it organized is a good wayto go into the last quarter of the year. As you create your spaceand plan your schedule, you can incorporate tools and leave timefor mini-spa experiences within your work days. You can do manyeasy things in your office environment to give you powerfulrejuvenating opportunities.

Here are some tips for either your home office or your corporateoffice:

--You can create a 5 minute "mini-steam" right at your desk. Thiscan open your sinuses, your pores, your mind and give you a muchneeded highly rejuvenating break in your workday. Pour hotwater in a cup. Put 2 - 3 drops of an essential oil such aseucalyptus, lavender, or peppermint in the cup. Put your faceover the cup and take a large file folder capping over your headto create an enclosed environment. Close your eyes and take a fewdeep breaths. Write on the outside of the file folder in blackmarker "Taking a 5 minute spa break - Do Not Disturb!".

--Give yourself a 2 minute acupressure session with points onyour face. Some people call this a non-surgical face lift. Thisuses the Asian principles of opening up the channels of energy or"chi". It can give you an instant uplift, alleviate a headache,clear mental fog, and bring a glow to your face. Using both handswith the pads of your first 2 fingers press firmly all over bothsides of the face.

--Take a 4 minute fantasy vacation. Close your eyes, put yourfeet up on your desk, take a deep breath and picture yourfavorite vacation spot. See yourself there feeling good andhaving a great time. The unconscious mind doesn't know thedifference between a real or imagined event. Your body willthank you!

--Rap over a wrap. Have a spa cuisine lunch with a good friend.Sandwich wraps filled with veggies and protein are a good healthylunch. Combine that with a "heart to heart" conversation for great stress reduction.

--Give yourself self-administered foot reflexology sessions rightat your desk. Keep a foot roller at your feet to roll your feeton (shoes off) during the day. This can stimulate reflex pointson your feet that can relax and invigorate your entire body.Along with foot rollers you can also use a golf ball,racquetball, or tennis ball. Don't forget to keep a pair ofcomfy slippers under your desk for times you just need to relaxyour feet.

--Share a healing touch with an office mate. Exchange a niceshoulder rub with each other to relax those "computer tight"shoulder and neck muscles

--Walk outside. Take a 10 minute nature break - and thatdoesn't mean the rest room! A stroll outside in nature can dowonders for you.

--Freshen your environment. Diffuse essential oils in your officeor cubical area so that it smells good, cuts down on unwantedbacteria, viruses, fungus and mold, and delivers more oxygen toyour work space.

--Have a voluptuous jade plant on your desk near your computer.Not only does the shiny green color relax you, but the jade planthelps to absorb electromagnetic frequencies that come off ofyour computer screen.. In fact, many common houseplants detoxifythe environment. Keep several types of plants nearby in yourworkspace. Peace lilies, spider plants, and English Ivy are allgood plants to use.

--Fish are fun and relaxing to look at. A pretty and lowmaintenance fish to have on your desk is the Betta fish. Itdoesn't need a filtered aquarium to live in and lives on just afew pellets of food a day.

--Keep healthy snacks in your desk drawer to keep your bloodsugar levels stable, especially during stressful days and daysyou skip meals. Mixed nuts, trail mix or healthy protein barsare good to have on hand. Ningxia Red juice packets for on the goare a great healthy energy boost (from Young Living - to ordercontact your distributor or go to http://tinyurl.com/aenfp ).

--Music soothes the soul - and our souls often need soothingespecially when we are stressed at work with issues anddeadlines. Have your iPod or MP3 player with some of yourfavorite relaxing tunes on it playing lightly in the background.

--Google your concerns. If your mind is distracted from workbecause of certain life issues like relationship problems, healthchallenges, or family concerns, then google a phrase that bestdescribes your concern and read about it - such as "single againat 50", "empty nest syndrome", "midlife crises", etc.

===================
2. The Dirty Desk
===================
Find yourself eating at your desk to maximize your time?
You may be interested in knowing about a study that was done(interestingly, funded by the Clorox Company) that found that theaverage desk harbors 400 times more bacteria than the averagetoilet seat.
This was done in a corporate office environment, but it stillmakes you think twice about your home office desk - and how aboutdesks in classrooms?
Here’s a list of other surfaces that had super high bacterialcount:
Telephones (#1)DesksWater fountainMicrowave handlesComputer keyboards
I love this study and I think it is so significant. As a matterof fact an acquaintance of mine - Allison Janse - wrote a bookbased on this study (The Germ Freaks Guide to Outwitting Coldsand Flu) This is such a hot topic that 20/20 did a show on thislast year featuring Allison and her book. Of course, Cloroxultimately had as their intention to advertise their wipes. Andthose of us‘in the natural know’ realize that Clorox - althougheffective in killing critters such as pathogenic organisms - hasserious caustic side effects and also kills the good beneficialorganisms that can keep the bad guys at bay.
The study also showed that using disinfecting wipes once a daydrastically reduced the bacteria levels (by 99.9%). But again -do you want to be smelling the fumes of chlorine and creatingmore free radicals in the system? Not me. I would rather usesomething just as effective and not harmful to the environment ormy health.
The good news is - once again - we have our essential oil Thievesline (including wipes, purse spray, household cleaner, throatlozenges) that will also kill the bacterial and other microbialovergrowth. But keeping the good organisms (because that’s whatnature does) and its healthy for us to breathe in and touch!!(Thieves is a Young Living Essential Oils product).
So when asked where is the better surface to eat from -aesthetics aside - the answer was that toilet seats consistentlyhad the lowest bacteria levels of the 12 surfaces tested in thestudy. yuch!!! no thanks - I'll just use my Thieves spray in mynormal eating environments!

3. Stock Up On Sunlight
=========================
Sunlight can help prevent osteoporosis. The people who reallyneed this and the Vitamin D production that sunlight stimulates,are kids and teens.
A new study published in the Archives of Disease inChildhood has found that more than 70 percent of British teenagegirls are deficient in vitamin D -- an essential nutrient forproper growth and development.
Researchers say because 35 percent of peak bone mass is built upduring puberty, it is essential for teens to get enough vitaminD to support healthy bone growth.
A consumer health advocate and holistic nutritionist Mike Adamsexplains "This finding is alarming not only because it shows sucha high percentage of teenage girls are deficient in thisessential nutrient, but also because health authorities likethe American Cancer Society continue to scare people away fromsunlight exposure with fear-mongering public serviceannouncements that claim sunlight may kill you. In reality,sunlight exposure could save hundreds of millions of people fromsuffering the well-documented effects of vitamin D deficiency,which include osteoporosis, cancer, depression and calciumdeficiency."
Read more about the healing power of sunlight in this book:"The Healing Power of Sunlight and Vitamin D":In this book, Dr. Michael Holick reveals fascinating facts on howvitamin D is created and used in the human body to ward offchronic diseases like cancer, osteoporosis, mental disorders andmore.

Don't Let This Happen To You ~
Confessions of a First Time Spa-er / Learning to Exercise
A seven day journal. . . .
"For my birthday this year my wife purchased me a week at a spaso I can start exercising. I guess turning 65 is as good as timeas ever to start a work out program.
Though still in great shape from when I was on the varsity chessteam in high school, I decided it was a good idea to go ahead andtry it.
I called and made reservations with someone named Tanya, who saidshe is a 25 year old aerobics instructor and athletic clothingmodel.
My wife seemed very pleased with how enthusiastic I was to getstarted.
They suggested I keep an "exercise diary" to chart my progress.
--Day 1
Started the morning at 6:00 a.m. Tough to get up but worthit. When I arrived at the spa Tanya was waiting for me. She'ssomething of a goddess, with blond hair and a dazzlingwhite smile. She showed me the machines and took my pulse afterfive minutes on the treadmill. She seemed a little alarmed thatit was so high, but I think just standing next to her in thatoutfit of hers added about ten points. Enjoyed watching theaerobics class.
Tanya was very encouraging as I did my sit ups, though my gut wasalready aching a little from holding it in the whole time I wastalking to her. This is going to be GREAT.
--Day 2
It took a whole pot of coffee to get me going this morning but Imade it. Tanya had me lie on my back and push this heavy iron barup into the air. Then she put weights on it, for heavens sake!Legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made it thefull mile. Her smile made it all worth while. Muscles ALL feelGREAT.
--Day 3
The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying thetoothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth overit. I am certain that I have developed a hernia in bothpectorals. Driving was OK as long as I didn't try to steer. Iparked on top of a Volkswagen. Tanya was a little impatient withme and said my screaming was bothering the other spa clients
The treadmill hurt my chest so I did the stair monster. Why wouldanyone invent a machine to simulate an activity rendered obsoleteby the invention of elevators! Tanya told me regular exercisewould make me live longer. I can't imagine anything worse.
--Day 4
Tanya was waiting for me with her vampire teeth in a fullsnarl. I can't help it if I was a half hour late, it took me thatlong just to tie my shoes. She wanted me to lift dumbbells. Not achance, Tanya. The word "dumb" must be in there for a reason. Ihid in the men's room until she sent Lars looking for me. Aspunishment she made me try the rowing machine. It sank.
--Day 5
I hate Tanya more than any human being has ever hated anyother human being in the history of the world. If there was anypart of my body not in extreme pain I would hit her with it. Shethought it would be a good idea to work on my triceps. Well Ihave news for you Tanya...I don't have triceps. And if you don'twant dents in the floor don't hand me any barbells. I refuse toaccept responsibility for the damage. YOU went to sadist school,YOU are to blame. The treadmill flung me back into a scienceteacher, which hurt like crazy. Why couldn't it have been someonesofter, a music teacher, or social studies teacher?
--Day 6
Got Tanya's message on my voice mail ,wonderingwhere I am. I lacked the strength to use the TV remote so Iwatched eleven straight hours of the weather channel.
Day 7: Well, that's the week. Thank goodness that's over. Maybenext time my wife will give me something a little more fun, likea gift certificate for a root canal."

1. 12 Ways To Make Every Day A Spa Day
===============================================
Ahh. ..the Spa-ahhh. . .How wonderful it feels when you are inthat tranquil, scented environment. The senses are stimulatedfrom head to toe through touch, smell, surroundings, and taste.Even your soul feels pampered from the pride and pleasure of selfcare.
Spas know that natural pleasures are a popular favorite amongspa-goers. Spas work really hard to help re-create nature foryou. Don’t lose sight that you too have the ability to access thesame natural forces and incorporate them into your daily life.It is possible for you to Make Every Day A Spa Day!

Here are 12 ways to do that:

--Let the birds wake you up

There is nothing more jarring,to the body and mind at rest thanthe piercing shrill of an alarm clock to wake it out of itsrestorative sleep. The penetrating sound of a noisy alarm canstart the day off on a stressful note. It can create the naturalrelease of adrenaline which increases the heart rate, which thencreates a cascade of symptoms already leading you to stress, andyou haven’t even gotten out of bed yet!There are options to these noisy alarms such as mechanical re-creations of nature sounds, but why not have the real thing?Open your window and tune yourself into the soft hum of naturalbird sounds in between 5 to 6am . The sounds and vibrations ofthe birds at this hour are positive subliminal frequencies thatcan balance your energy system.

--Take a morning walk

It is said that the morning dew holds a special frequency thatcan revitalize your energy field, especially if you walk on thedew-riddened grass. The other benefits of the morning walk arethat it can lower your stress level before you even get startedfor the day. It also gives you a chance to organize yourthoughts, plan and visualize your day.

--Put music on with the coffee (or herbal tea)

Set the mood you want to create for the day by choosing music toplay in the morning as you get ready for your day. Play partymusic if you want a fun day, soothing music if you want apeaceful day, or classical music if you need to do a lot ofthinking in the day.

--Stretch in the shower

Hot water in your morning shower can loosen up muscles so it iseasier to get a good stretch. Muscles that are stretching areusing more oxygen and create more circulation just by the simplefact they are in motion.

--Eat a balanced breakfast

Eating right in the morning is another way to set the tone forthe day. Your endocrine system (the part of the body that helpsto handle stress) gets the right message and fuel to deal withthe stress that it will have to handle. Protein and complexcarbs are the way to go in the morning!

--Journal and Set Goals

Recording thoughts, intentions, and results is a good thing to doat the beginning and end of your day. With your morning coffeeand your calendar in front of you, create your "to do" list foryour chores, your self care, and even include the positivethoughts you want to think!

--Plan a 30 minute exercise slot for your day

Whether it’s at lunchtime or during the evening winding downhours, getting your body moving for at least 30 minutes at somepoint in the day is critical for your lymphatic system. Thelymphatic system needs movement to do its job of detoxifying thebody. Along with delivering more oxygen and increasingcardiovascular circulation, mobilizing lymph by movement is oneof the best daily treatments.

--Clear desktop clutter

Clearing clutter from your workspace and environment can helpclear the clutter of the mind. It can enable you to become morecreative and productive. Take 3 to 5 minutes to clear your workenvironment of clutter.

--Breathe and be happy in the process of your day

Remember it’s the journey, not the destination. If the end ofyour workday is the goal of your day, you may wan t to re-framehow you view your day. If that doesn’t work then get another jobwhere you will not be so attached to finishing the day.

--Enjoy family and friends in the evening, and put the tube aside

Sharing community projects or just joining together for thepurpose of being together is a healthy way to solidify your day.Spending quality time with loved ones is a good way to reinforceyour reason for being. Whether it’s about you being important tosomeone or someone being important to you, sharing timetogether from the heart and hearth is balancing for the soul.

--Take a Home Spa bath

There is no better way to end the day then to soak in yourprivate tub filled with bubbles, salts, or special oils.Immersing your body in water (a shower can be just as effective!)can help to clear the events of the day from your aura and relaxthe body. This naturally relaxes the mind and it’s a great segueto a sound restorative sleep.

--Use essential oils to help your day and night

Essential oils can allow you to take the spa experience intoevery moment of your daily and nightly routine. Not only do theycreate an aromatic environment, but the actions of therapeuticgrade essential oils (to be differentiated from perfume oils),can address little troubles that come up in every day life suchas: headaches, stomach trouble, sinus issues, difficultysleeping, and even emotional fluctuations! A daily arsenal tohave on hand would be peppermint, lavender, lemon, Peace &Calming, and PanAway (the last two are trademarked blends fromYoung Living Essential Oil Company). Dowse your body, yourcarpet, your workspace, and your friends (or adversaries!) withessential oils to make your days and nights go smoother.

2. Help for Puffy Eyes
=================================================
What is it that makes those peepers puffy?

--Water retention
--Fatty tissue deposits
--Crying
--Genetics
--Allergies
--Too much sodium intake

What can we do to prevent, minimize, or eliminate the puffiness?
Plastic surgeon, Gregory Bays Brown, a plastic surgeon says thatif puffiness or under eye bags are due to a pronounced fat padthen surgery is the answer. But what if we don't want to opt forthe knife?

Here are some natural remedies to use:

--Black Tea
Black Tea is an astringent with tannins that helps with puffyeyes. Make 2 cups of tea and place used bags in fridge. Once teabags are chilled, remove from fridge, lie down, close eyes, andplace one tea bag over each eye. Keep on for 10 to 20 minutes.

--Chamomile Tea
German chamomile is an anti-inflammatory. Use tea bags over theeyes with the same directions as the black tea.

--Drink dandelion tea
Dandelion tea is a mild diuretic (helps you eliminate water andfluid in the tissues)

--Chilled Teething Rings
Use chilled teething rings over your closed eyes for puffiness.

--Cooled slices of cucumber
It's the "spa-look", the cucumbers over the eyes - but veryeffective for puffy eyes!

--Increase water intake
To mobilize fluid out of the body you should increase your intake(unlike what most people think). The more purified water youdrink, the more it will help move the fluid out of the body.

--Preparation H
This is not a fallacy, Preparation H [manufactured toshrink hemorrhoid tissue] can also reduce swelling under theeyes. This is one of the secrets of the stars! Dab a smallamount under the eye being careful not to get it into the eye.

--Conceal
Correction makeup is a blessing for puffiness and dark circlesunder the eyes. It is important that the proper amount be used.The tip here is to minimize the amount of concealing makeup. Themore concealer, the more attention you will bring to your eyes.Use a small amount with a light touch and sweep upward when applying.

1. Your Home Spa in the Sky
=============================
There are many reasons why you should create a traveling mini-spa for yourself while you fly in the sky.
Here's a list of whys and hows:
--Clean The Air You Breathe
One of the things that has always bothered me about flying is the close proximity between people (for hours) andbreathing the same re-circulated air. The worst thing is a coughing sneezing sick person. But even if we are seatedfarther away from a sick person, germs can spread easily inairplane cabins. Also, since the airlines humidify the cabin air, the moisture creates a breeding ground for microbes[although plane air is notoriously dry, thus mucous membranes getdry and are more vulnerable to attack by microorganisms].
Without fail, every time I get on a plane I say: "I am so thankful for my oils!"
Here's a recommended routine for keeping the air you breathe as free from pathogenic organisms (the bad bugs) as possible:
Keep your favorite respiratory, cleansing oils on your person,either in your pocket or purse. Take a hankie or tissue andsprinkle your oils on it. Tuck it into your shirt pocket,slipped up your sleeve, or under your watchband so it is easilyaccessible to lift up to your nose and inhale.
I do this about every 10 minutes during my flight. I take a fewinhalations through the tissue so I can line my respiratorypassages with these great oils that will keep the bad bugs away.
My favorite oils to do this with are (YL Blends) RC, Raven,Thieves, Peppermint, Purification, or any of the eucalyptus oils.
You can also create a little spray bottle or use Thieves Sprayand spray your seat area. You may get a bit more attention doingit that way, so if you don't want to draw attention to yourselfjust use your hankie!
--Keep Your Ankles from Swelling
There's something about our bodies being a zillion miles up inthe sky, in a pressurized cabin, sitting for sometimes severalhours, that just makes our legs and feet want to swell.
It might not have anything to do with how much salt we just ate,or if we drank too much water, or not enough. Whatever it is,swollen legs and feet are uncomfortable, unsightly, and hindersmovement.
One of the best essential oils that assists both the bloodcirculation and the lymphatic circulation is cypress. You mightwant to rub some cypress on the bottom of your feet or on yourankles before you get on the plane, or at least when you getdressed on the morning of your flight. Use it after you land tohelp mobilize any stagnant fluid.
The ideal essential oil for this in my opinion is the YoungLiving Blend called Aroma-Life. It has cypress in it along witha few other single oils that have great properties. Thesynergy of this blend is great. I have seen great results onpeople who have used this oil blend for swollen feet.
-- Keep Your Immune System Strong
When we use therapeutic essential oils on our body, theysimultaneously oxygenate and cleanse each cell in the body Thiscombination of actions help to keep the immune system strong.
--Diminish Stress and Relax
Even if you are excited about your destination, there is stillstress associated with travel. It's good stress, but its stress.
Here's what you can do to diminish stress:
--Use Lavender oil on the bottom of your feet and pulse points(my favorite lavender is Young Living's special lavender from St.Marie's - it is exquisite although a bit more expensive thantheir regular lavender). Another essential oil blend that isoften recommended for stress is Peace and Calming. Dowse yourselfthroughout the flight with either of these oils. It will helppeople around you as well.
--Take your headset with you, or rent one from the airlines, andlisten to classical or relaxation music that they offer.
--Close your eyes and do some deep breathing, and picture apeaceful scene, the face of a loved one or beloved pet, or yourwonderful vacation in your mind! Imagery is a powerfulenhancement to health.
--Feel Good When You Land
That's ultimately what we want, isn't it? We don't want to getso stressed out getting ready for the trip and traveling to thepoint where we are exhausted and sick when we get there!
The degree to which you are able to stay centered and in thatspa-like frame of mind while you are traveling, is the degree towhich you will feel great when you arrive at your destination.
One of the most important and effective ways of feeling goodwhile you travel is to Drink Plenty of Water!
--Prevent Jet Lag
This is the bottom line. Nobody wants to feel tired andsick from flying and traveling.
According to Charles F. Ehert, Ph.D. (senior scientist at US Deptof Energy Argonne National Laboratory in Argonne, Illinois,author of "Overcoming Jet Lag") it takes one day to recover foreach time zone you go through. Therefore, coast to coast recoverytime is 3 days because you cross 3 different time zones.
This also means that going from New York to Japan - which is 15time zones, would necessitate more than one week for recovery.
We can do things to prevent Jet Lag. Here are some of Dr. Ehert'ssuggestions from his book:
--Plan your flight so that you arrive at night
--Get plenty of sleep before your trip
--Avoid alcohol and anything that dehydrates the body
--Exercise on the plane (contract and relax muscles, and stretch)
--Sit in sun on plane if you can
--Exercise when you get to your hotel
--Get out in the sunshine when you arrive at your destination
--Get immediately into the sync of new the time zone. Don't tryto catch up on sleep
Here is Ehert's Anti-Jet Lag diet:
--3 days before travel eat a feast - high protein breakfast andlunch and high carb dinner
--2 days before eat lightly - fruits, soups, broth
--1 day before eat a feast again (same as above)
--On the day of travel east very light, next to nothing, and eatregularly when you arrive at that time zone's meal times

2. Don't Rock the Boat ~ Tips for Sea Sickness
=================================================
Isn't it horrible to be on a boat and see the beautiful wavesrolling around you, but feel like they are rolling inside of youtoo?
Sea sickness can make the best fishing trip, or cruise, anexcursion you wished you hadn't embarked on.
Bring out the peppermint oil (inhale and rub on belly), theginger tea (sip in between your carbonated beverage), and theacupressure wrist bands (http://tinyurl.com/n3cqd).
They say that people who get motion sickness from being in a carrarely get it if they are the ones driving. This is because themind is occupied. So, keep your mind busy when you are confrontedwith sea sickness or any motion sickness. Listen to music orsolve problems in your head (don't read).

3. Good Attitude about High Altitudes
======================================
Altitude sickness sneaks up on us. It comes as a surprise and ifyou're not aware of its possibilities you may think you aregetting a flu.
One of the most important things to do to prepare for altitudechanges is to drink lots of water before your flight, during(even though it is a pain to go to the rest room so frequently,it is worth it), and especially when you arrive. It's importantto keep yourself well hydrated. When you arrive and get yourluggage and your transportation settled, your first thoughtshould be "where can I buy two large gallons of water for myhotel room?".
Keep your nasal passages clear and moist. Buy some salinesolution that you can irrigate your nasal passages with, or makeyour own:
--Combine 1/4 teaspoon sea salt (non-iodized) with 8 ounces ofnon-chlorinated water ( or you can boil and cool regular water)--Add 1/4 teaspoon baking soda (optional)--Put in spray bottle, ear syringe, or cup it in your clean handsfor a slight inhale just enough to fill nostrils then expel
Use a neti pot:http://tinyurl.com/5mmfr
After cleansing nasal passages inhale some therapeutic gradeessential oils to help keep your airways open and free frompathogenic (yucky) organisms. Great oils for this are Raven, RC,Melaleuca and Eucalyptus to name a few.
Lavender, once again, is one of the best treatments for altitudesickness. Taking a lavender bath once in your hotel room can dogreat wonders for you.
Last year I had a severe case of altitude sickness. I flew fromPhiladelphia to Breckenridge Colorado and arrived within 7 hours.(yikes! I'm doing that again in a few weeks!)

9. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================
An award should go to the United Airlines gate agent in Denver,Colorado, for being smart and funny and making her point whenconfronted with an angry passenger. During the final days atDenver's old Stapleton airport, a crowded United flight wascanceled. A single agent was rebooking a long line ofinconvenienced travelers.
Suddenly an angry passenger pushed his way to the desk. Heslapped his ticket down on the counter and said, "I HAVE to be onthis flight and it has to be FIRST CLASS."
The agent replied, "I'm sorry sir. I'll be happy to try to helpyou, but I've got to help these folks first, and I'm sure we'llbe able to work something out."
The passenger was unimpressed. He asked loudly, so that thepassengers behind him could hear, "Do you have any idea who Iam?"
Without hesitating, the gate agent smiled and grabbed her publicaddress microphone. "May I have your attention please?" shebegan, her voice bellowing throughout the terminal. "We have apassenger here at the gate WHO DOES NOT KNOW WHO HE IS. If anyonecan help him find his identity, please come to the gate."
With the folks behind him in line laughing hysterically, the manglared at the United agent, gritted his teeth and swore, "I'mgoing to get you fired for that!"
Without flinching, she smiled and said, "I'm sorry, sir. But,you'll have to stand in line for that, too."
