==============================================
1. Get a Natural Pedicure. . .From Fish!
==============================================

This really grossed me out when I heard about it - and
I'm even a "footie kind of person". . .

. . .for example, I like to go bare foot, I take foot soaks at
home, I put essential oils on my feet all of the time!

I love to receive foot reflexology treatments, and I love
getting pedicures in spas. . .

. . . but putting my feet in a tank full of fish so they
nibble my dry skin away?

You have GOT to be kidding!

Then, I heard that Diane Sawyer received a pedicure this way,
with these little toothless fishies chomping at her feet, and
thought "maybe it's not so bad after all!"

(how trite, eh? just because a television personality
did it doesn't make it any less weird)

So I watched this video, saw the fish doing their job, and it
started to make sense! I think this is an Asian treatment and
I usually trust eastern forms of healing arts, so it became
less difficult to comprehend.

After seeing the entire video and hearing how smooth and soft the
skin becomes from this treatment, I started to think that I could
possibly do it. . . as long as I didn't look down!

Could you do this?

Here is the short video news clip on this:

( 1 min 49 sec)

===================================================
2. Essential Oil Tip: Soothing Foot Soak and Scrub
===================================================

Treat your feet to a soak in this milk and
water mixture and follow it with the sugar
scrub for incredibly soft feet.

For the soak:
7 cups of water
2 cups of milk

For the scrub:
1/2 cup of sugar
4 - 6 drops lemon essential oil
2 tablespoons of coconut oil

--Mix the water and milk and heat on stovetop
--Mix the sugar, lemon essential oil and coconut
oil in a separate bowl.
--Put the milk mixture in large bowl or basin and soak your feet
in it for at least 10 minutes.
--Massage the sugar, lemon and coconut oil mixture on your feet
to exfoliate.
--Rinse with clear water and pat dry.

3. Success Tip: Dale Carnegie
================================

"You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested
in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other
people interested in you."
~Dale Carnegie

==================================================
4. Recipe of the Week: Vinnie C.'s Baked Snapper
==================================================

This is my friend (not cousin) Vinnie's favorite recipe. . .and
it sounds so good to me (I haven't tried it yet)!

Thanks for sharing it Vin!

--Coat snapper (or any fish) in Extra Virgin Olive Oil
--Combine 1/4 tsp ea of garlic powder, paprika, and ginger powder
--Sprinkle over fish
--Chop a fresh tomato, a small handful of fresh cilantro, and
cut a few asparagus spears - and stuff the fish with this mixture
--Wrap in aluminum foil and bake at 350 degrees for 30 -45 min

5. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

This is National Friendship Week - Happy Friendship Week to All
of You!

"Words of Wisdom" - by Andy Rooney

I've learned.... That the best classroom in the world is at the
feet of an elderly person.

I've learned.... That when you're in love, it shows.

I've learned.... That just one person saying to me, 'You've made
my day!' makes my day.

I've learned.... That having a child fall asleep in your arms is
one of the most peaceful feelings in the world.

I've learned.... That being kind is more important than being
right.

I've learned.... That you should never say no to a gift from a
child.

I've learned.... That I can always pray for someone when I don't
have the strength to help him in some other way.

I've learned.... That no matter how serious your life requires
you to be, everyone needs a friend to act goofy with.

I've learned.... That sometimes all a person needs is a hand to
hold and a heart to understand.

I've learned.... That simple walk with my father around the block
on summer nights when I was a child did wonders for me as an
adult.

I've learned.... That life is like a roll of toilet paper. The
closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.

I've learned.... That money doesn't buy class.

I've learned.... That it's those small daily happenings that make
life so spectacular.

I've learned... That under everyone's hard shell is someone who
wants to be appreciated and loved.

I've learned.... That to ignore the facts does not change the
facts.

I've learned.... That when you plan to get even with someone, you
are only letting that person continue to hurt you.

I've learned... That love, not time, heals all wounds.

I've learned.... That the easiest way for me to grow as a person
is to surround myself with people smarter than I am.

I've learned.... That everyone you meet deserves to be greeted
with a smile.

I've learned.... That no one is perfect until you fall in love
with them.

I've learned.... That life is tough, but I'm tougher.

I've learned.... That opportunities are never lost; someone will
take the ones you miss.

I've learned.... That when you harbor bitterness, happiness will
dock elsewhere.

I've learned.... That I wish I could have told my Mom that I love
her one more time before she passed away.

I've learned.... That one should keep his words both soft and
tender, because tomorrow he may have to eat them.

I've learned.... That a smile is an inexpensive way to improve
your looks.

I've learned.... That when your newly born grandchild holds your
little finger in his/her little fist, that you're hooked for
life.

I've learned.... That everyone wants to live on top of the
mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you're
climbing it.

I've learned.... That the less time I have to work with, the more
things I get done.

Contest Winners for the HMO Joke!
====================================

Here are the winners to the contest!

Didn't know about the contest?

In last week's issue, I posted the following joke in the joke
section (see below).

The title article of the newsletter was on the topic of GMO
Foods (Genetically Modified).

I offered a free bottle of therapeutic grade lemon essential oil
to the person who could come up with the best, most funny and
clever way to add something about GMO's to the HMO joke.

Read the original joke here. . .
(the submissions and who won are below). . .

"And God populated the earth with broccoli and cauliflower and
spinach and green and yellow vegetables of all kinds, so Man and
Woman would live long and healthy lives.

And Satan created McDonald's. And McDonald's brought forth the
99-cent double-cheeseburger. And Satan said to Man, "You want
fries with that?"

And Man said, "Super size them." And Man gained pounds.

And God created the healthful yogurt, that woman might keep her
figure that man found so fair.

And Satan froze the yogurt, and he brought forth chocolate, nuts
and brightly colored sprinkle candy to put on the yogurt. And
woman gained pounds.

And God said, "Try my crispy fresh salad."

And Satan brought forth creamy dressings, bacon bits, and
shredded cheese.

And there was ice cream for dessert. And woman gained pounds.

And God said, "I have sent your heart healthy vegetables and
olive oil with which to cook them."

And Satan brought forth chicken-fried steak from Cracker Barrel
so big it needed its own platter. And Man gained pounds, and his
bad cholesterol went through the roof.

And God brought forth running shoes, and Man resolved to lose
those extra pounds.

And Satan brought forth cable TV with remote control so Man would
not have to toil to change channels between ESPN and ESPN2. And
Man gained pounds.

And God said, "You're running up the score, Devil." And God
brought forth the potato, a vegetable naturally low in fat and
brimming with nutrition.

And Satan peeled off the healthful skin and sliced the starchy
center into chips and deep-fat fried them. And he created sour
cream dip also.

And Man clutched his remote control and ate the potato chips
swaddled in cholesterol. And Satan saw and said, "It is good."

And Man went into cardiac arrest.

And God sighed, and created quadruple bypass surgery,
angioplasties, and stints . . . . .

And Satan created HMOs"

*****************************************
Here is Brenda's submission. . .

"and God sent forth seed bearing fruit and vegetables and saw
that it was good for both man and woman so that they be found
alkaline and healthy in heart! but Satan intended evil and came
and stole away the seeds and kept them away from the farmers so
they wouldn't have natural resources to build upon BUT he Satan
was also planning to dupe the best of us even Marilee into
thinking it was good! until she remembered to use wisdom and
called upon scientific friends that reminded her of the first
fruits - that were seed bearing! Thus we are presently being
deceived by GMOs....they are amongst us BUT what do they look
like people! May we be found in TRUTH and wise with our food
choices no matter what the source!"

**************************************************
Here is Glenda's. . .

.....And God sighed, and created quadruple bypass surgery,
Angioplasties, and stints . . . . .

And Satan created HMOs....
all supported by our GMOs.

***********************************************************

Here is Bonnie's. . .

And God created delicious colorful fruits filled with
antioxidants to strengthen Man against the ravages of the toxic
world.

And Satan brought forth genetically-modified fruits to appeal to
the lazy nature of Man who did not want to pick out the seeds in
his watermelon.

Bonnie

****************************************************************

Here is Janna's . . .

And God said to man and woman "I will give you more help" and he
created hot and cold houses so they could enjoy (in and out
of season) cilantro, figs, potatoes, onions, corn, apples,
arugala and star fruit.

The devil got busy in the lab to top God and sprayed the fruit
and veggies so they would not quickly rot, made
veggie hybrids without seeds and with untested genetic
compositions and cooking oils which should power cars
instead and man and woman gained pounds and lost vitality.
The HMOs were very, very busy.

And God said to the Devil "I am not going to compete with you
Devil. You have made it too easy for man and woman to make
poor choices with their health and you have also taken choice
away altogether. I will show man and woman how to heal with
their hands, how to help themselves and others regain their
health and how to make exercise fun again"

And God created lipstick.

===========================================================
You are all winners!!!

thank you Janna, Bonnie, Glenda, and Brenda!

All four of you get a 15 ml bottle of Young Living therapeutic
grade essential oil of lemon!

Send me an email with your snail mail address so I can ship this
out to you asap!

==============================================
1. Organic vs. Genetically Modified Food (GMO)
==============================================

I remember my first known encounter with a genetically
modified food. It happened in my own kitchen!

About two years ago I bought a squash from one
of my "then" favorite stores.

(Okay. . .I'll tell you the store - it was Trader Joe's.)

Trader's is not where I would typically buy produce, and I
knew then that the squash was not organic, but I thought
I would at least be getting a higher quality than most
grocery stores.

It was an acorn squash. I prepared it as I typically
do - baked it, and then ate it - it was quite tasty.

As I was cleaning up my kitchen I realized I had no
seeds to discard! There were no seeds in this squash!

I immediately called my "foodie" friends, some of whom
are scientifically and nutritionally oriented, because
I HAD to "process" this!

Together we concluded that I had my first "taste" of
GMO foods.

Yuck! I had a horrible feeling about this.
I felt duped and ripped-off!

Okay. . .I realize that I might not be able to do
anything about stopping the formulation and the
distribution of GMO foods in the world. . .but
please let me know which foods are genetically
modified so I can make a choice!

But that's not going to happen - the FDA, USDA,
and EPA have ruled that genetically-modified
foods can be sold without being labeled
"genetically modified".

Genetically modified foods are foods where the
genes are "man"ipulated and "man"ufactured -
(meaning "man-made") and in many cases are implanted
with an insecticide.

This is so sad to me. GMO foods do not produce seeds.
Do you know what that means to farmers? This means
that farmers must continue to buy seeds every year
(from the company that sells them).

And, because genetically modified seeds are patented,
it is illegal for a farmer to retain seed from this
year's crop to plant next year.

The Monsanto Corporation of St. Louis has been purchasing
large seed companies throughout the U.S. They have
teamed up with Pioneer (owned by DuPont) to dominate the
seed business.

Here's a little video showing you how I identified that
my swiss chard was organic:

========================================
2. Essential Oil Tip: Washing Veggies
========================================

A must have at your kitchen sink is a bottle of
organic therapeutic grade lemon essential oil.

This is one of the most effective and easy
ways to wash your veggies.

You might want to create a spray bottle
with water and the lemon, but as you can see
in this video, I just use the lemon straight.

Lemon, like most therapeutic essential oils,
is a natural anti-bacterial / viral / fungal
and it keeps the good flora - but gets rid of
the "bad bugs".

It also eliminates petrochemicals. . .in like
a melting action. Pesticides are petrochemicals.

=======================================
1. Forget to Bring Your Shopping Bags?
======================================

It never fails. . .

. . . when I go grocery shopping (usually
Whole Foods, Wegman's, or Essene in Philadelphia)
I get to the checkout counter, slap my forehead
and say "oh shucks! I forgot to bring in my bags!"

I left them in my car!

Do you do this too?

Then I try to think what I can do to help me
remember the next time. . .

. . . Post-It on my dashboard?
. . . cell phone ring reminder?
. . . tie the bags to my purse?

Well - this little slide presentation has helped me
to remember to bring my bags with me. . .it has had
such an impact on me.

For example, I learned that less than 1% of bags are recycled
and it costs more to recycle a bag than to produce a new one.

After seeing this. . .I will NEVER forget to carry in my bags!

http://snipurl.com/dont4get2takeyurbags

and you will always think about how our waste affects the earth.

BTW. . . here's an "eco-nurse-y" tip on how to
get rid of medications (the FDA recommends flushing
them down the toilet. . . but what is that doing to
our waters?)

--Crush them and add with either kitty litter,
or coffee grounds and seal and dispose in
your regular trash.

Here's another thought. . . maybe a little "Brain Power" (YL
essential oil blend) will help me to remember too, eh?

It's a great essential oil blend that is high
in 'sesquiterpenes' that help to oxygenate the brain!

=================================================
2. Essential Oil Tip: Natural Cellulite Treatment
=================================================

Cellulite is an accumulation of clusters of old fat cells that
solidify and harden - and the surrounding tissue loses its
elasticity.

Not only is it unsightly, but it is also unhealthy.
It's unhealthy because toxins and petrochemicals tend to
accumulate in fat cells.

So when we work to get rid of our cellulite - we do so for our
beauty and health!

Here is a great recipe for a bath that can help dissolve
cellulite. But remember, bathing alone won't do it - exercise,
massages (even self massage) and plenty of water helps!

Cellulite Bath

3 drops orange
3 drops rosemary
3 drops cypress

--Place drops in 2 tablespoons of Epsom Salts
--Mix together
--Place in warm bath and soak!

Can also use Bath Gel Base instead of salts

After bath - dry off- massage cellulite area with
Cel-Lite magic.

This video shows you the recipe (not MY cellulite! ha ha)

1. Do You Want to Write a Book? Your Dog Can Help
==================================================

I'm probably in the same boat with many of you.

I haven't written a book, and I don't know if I even
want to take that on, despite the continuous info
that wants to pour out of me.

But the idea of writing and self-publishing a book has been
niggling at me for quite some time!

Truthfully, I don't even know if I could write a book.

Yeah. . . I've got this newsletter thing going on. . and yeah,
I've proven to myself that I am willing to make the attempt. .

. . .but self publish a book?

When we have these little indecisive dilemmas, I think the
best thing to do to help us make our decisions is to
become empowered with information.

Get the data and the facts. Then, with a little dose of
intuition and inner guidance, we can make our decisions!

That being said, I've got an opportunity for us to learn and
"get the facts" with the World Renowned Self Publishing Guru.

This guy is the go-to man for self-publishing.

It seems that every author I've come across who has self-
published has either read his book(s) or somehow was influenced
by his work.

So, if you have had a similar little 'niggling' going on. . .why
not join me on Monday as I interview Dan Poynter.

I think you'll be rather comfortable with us. . .he knows that
when he speaks with me that my listeners (YOU) are health care
oriented folks.

I'm not sure if he will design his information toward our
industry but we can learn from him either way.

Okay - so you are probably wondering, where does the dog part
come in?

Below is a cute article written by a blogger who shares insights
about writing, publishing, and how her dog has helped her.

Oh yeah. . .and one other thing. . .here is a little video I
captured of Prin. . . he was sneaking around on my bookshelves
and "borrowed" my Dan Poynter book. He informed me he is
joining the call with Dan too.

I hope you enjoy Stephenie's article. . . .

"What My Dog Taught Me About Getting Published"

By Stephenie Hovland

My dog Luther showed me how to get published.
Okay, I confess. I'm already published and was
really just looking for a way to adore my dog
and count it as writing time. Even so.
I think he had some great ideas!

1. It's okay to be a mutt. Just as Luther doesn't
have to have a pedigree for people to say he's a
great dog, you don't have to have a doctorate in
science to write a science book for kids. You
don't have to have an English degree to write a novel.
Be yourself. Draw on your strengths, your curiosities.
If you wait until you've earned all the "right" degrees,
you may never start writing.

2. Follow those who feed you. If I have lunch
in my hands, Luther sits next to me, but doesn't
beg; he waits patiently. As a writer, you have a
choice of who you approach to publish your manuscript.
I prefer to send my writing to paying publishers, though
occasionally I donate articles. Paying publishers help me
feed my family. After I send my manuscript, I wait
patiently for them to respond. Sometimes I get a rejection,
but other times I'm amazed by how great the response is.
It's like throwing a steak to Luther. Don't think that
because you are a beginner or have been rejected before, you
aren't worthy of submitting to paying markets. Submit, then
sit. Stay. Good dog.

3. Always be ready to run. Luther told me that other
less-obedient dogs will dart out the door at every
opportunity, then race away from their angry owner.
Luther only does that when he sees a rabbit or squirrel
and thinks he can catch them. Writers should always be
looking for their opportunities to be published. Pick up
magazines in the dentist office, do market research.
Join message boards online that relate to writing and to your
specialty. If you write (or would like to write) Christian
parenting articles and books, join groups for writers,
Christians, parents, Christian parents, single parents, moms,
dads, etc. -- whatever you can relate to your genre.
Then, become more than a chatty member. Become a resource for
others and learn from them. Ideas for articles and opportunities
to become published will pop up all over the place, if you are
ready.

4. Leave your mark. When I take Luther on a walk,
I'm amazed he doesn't become dehydrated with all the "marking" he
does. Anything vertical gets wet. Please don't pee on your
publishers. That's not what I'm talking about! Don't be afraid to
leave your mark by promoting yourself. Put your website address
in your signature line for every e-mail you send. Keep business
cards with you at all times. Have a writers resume and clips
updated at all times (and keep a copy or two in your car) - you
never know who you'll run into when you visit the library or pay
for an ad. Remember to let people know what you do. If you don't
tell them, how will they ever know?

My husband may think Luther is only good for matting the carpet
with dog hair, but I think he's a great interview. Certainly,
there are many more tips for getting published, but if you follow
my dog's sage advice, you will find opportunities almost
everywhere you go. And, you will be ready!

Visit Stephenie's blog http://blog.faith-filled.com/ to find more
insights about writing and Luther.

3. Success Tip: Lead Dog
==========================

"If you're not the lead dog, the view never changes."
~ Anon

=============================================================
4. Recipe of the Week: Quinoa, Kale and Avocado Salad Recipe
=============================================================

1 Cup uncooked quinoa
3 Stalks of kale
1 Sheet of dried nori
1/2 Cucumber
1/2 Cup pine nuts
1 Avocado
1 Tbsp sesame seeds
1 Tbsp lemon juice
1 Tbsp rice vinegar
Salad dressing to taste*

In a small point combine one cup quinoa with 2 cups of salted
water and bring to a boil. Cover, and lower heat, simmering for
about 15 minutes, or until all water has been absorbed.

While the quinoa cooks, remove the stems from the kale. Discard
and chop the leaves finely, adding them to a large bowl. The nori
can be difficult to cut, so you may find it easier to just break
off very small pieces to add to the salad. You can leave the skin
on the cucumber, but remove the seeds and chop into small pieces.

Add the pine nuts and sesame seeds to the kale, nori and
cucumbers. Add the avocado last (as you don't want it to brown).
Halve it, remove peel and pit, and chop into small pieces. Add to
the salad along with the vinegar and lemon juice. Once the quinoa
has cooked, stir it with a fork and transfer to the fridge to
cool.

Suggested dressing: Shiitake and Sesame Vinaigrette from
Annie's Naturals

5. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

A wealthy old lady decides to go on a photo safari in Africa,
taking her faithful aged poodle named Cuddles, along for the
company.

One day the poodle starts chasing butterflies and before long,
Cuddles discovers that he's lost. Wandering about, he notices a
leopard heading rapidly in his direction with the intention of
having lunch.

The old poodle thinks, 'Oh, oh! I'm in deep doo-doo now!'
Noticing some bones on the ground close by, he immediately
settles down to chew on the bones with his back to the
approaching cat. Just as the leopard is about to leap the old
poodle exclaims loudly, 'Boy, that was one delicious leopard! I
wonder if there are any more around here?'

Hearing this, the young leopard halts his attack in mid-strike, a
look of terror comes over him, and he slinks away into the trees.
'Whew!' says the leopard, 'That was close! That old poodle nearly
had me!'

Meanwhile, a monkey who had been watching the whole scene from a
nearby tree, figures he can put this knowledge to good use and
trade it for protection from the leopard. So off he goes, but the
old poodle sees him heading after the leopard with great speed,
and figures that something must be up. The monkey soon catches up
with the leopard, spills the beans and strikes a deal for himself
with the leopard.

The young leopard is furious at being made a fool of and says,
'Here, monkey, hop on my back and see what's going to happen to
that conniving canine!'

Now, the old poodle sees the leopard coming with the monkey on
his back and thinks, 'What am I going to do now?', but instead of
running, the dog sits down with his back to his attackers,
pretending he hasn't seen them yet, and just when they get close
enough to hear, the old poodle says, 'Where's that damn monkey? I
sent him off an hour ago to bring me another leopard!'

Moral of the story: Brilliance and bull comes with age and
experience

==========================================
1. Make your Skin Spa-rkle for the Fourth
==========================================

Skin, hidden for months under winter clothing,
officially becomes exposed on July 4th weekend.

A great way to prepare the skin for this annual
unveiling is with a body scrub.

Body scrubs make your skin sparkly clean. They
help exfoliate the dead skin cells and allow
fresh new skin cells to surface. New skin cells
have a vibrant glow compared to dead cells.

There are tons of commercial scrubs available,
but why bother to shop? It's so easy to whip
up your own scrub from what's in your kitchen
cabinets already.

Here's an easy scrub to make:

--Olive Oil 1/2 cup
--Fine Sea Salt 1/2 cup
--Lavender Essential Oil 10 drops (or
other of your favorite essential oil(s)

-Mix together, and place in clean dry jar.
-Use this after you bathe or shower (but stay in tub/shower to
rinse off).
-Place small amount in your hand.
-Gently scrub in circular motion on skin.
-Scrub entire body. Be gentle on, or avoid, sensitive areas.
-Be careful stepping out of tub/shower, it may be slippery from
the oil.
-Pat dry with bath towel.

=================================================
2. Essential Oil Tip: Quick Burn Remedies
=================================================

Be careful of those sparklers and fireworks, and the hot,
summer sun.

If you get burned from sun or fun, lavender oil is a
great "have-on-hand" home remedy.

In the 18th century, chemist Gattefosse, discovered the
healing properties of lavender when he inadvertently put his
burned hand in a basin. He thought the basin was water but it
was lavender oil. The burn healed quickly without scarring. Thus
entered the dawn of present day French aromatherapy.

Today, use several drops of lavender on and around the affected
area immediately after a burn. It can greatly reduce
symptoms and pain and scarring. It is imperative to use a
therapeutic, not perfume-grade oil.

Young Living has two wonderful lavender oils.
I prefer the St. Maries lavender. It is believed
to have a higher level of healing properties than
even the lavender from France. It is grown in
pristine mountains of St. Maries, Idaho.

LavaDerm Cooling Mist is a must have at the beach. It helps
combat that hot and burned feeling from the sun. It contains
lavender and aloe vera.

Here is a video on how to use Lavaderm:

(video 46 seconds)

products see your Young Living Distributor or go to

3. Fun July 4th Tip: Non-alcoholic "Health Shots" you can do. . .
================================================================

Impress your friends and family as you show up to your
July 4th barbeque with a delicious bottle of a "healthy"
red juice that you can do "shots" with. . .

Ningxia Red has so many health benefits and it's the only
"Nutrient Infusion" and juice that has orange and lemon
essential oils.

Here are the other ingredients.. . . . . .

(Please note how there are no "Junk Juices" in
this (like apple, grape, or pear - compare
THAT with other juices!)

Wolfberry: the miracle superfood; supports multiple biosystems;
Blueberry: contains ultra-high levels of antioxidants
Pomegranate: supports cardiovascular health
Apricot: revered for longevity support
Raspberry: contains ellagic acid, a DNA protectant

Here's a quick video of the "Ningxia Red Shot Bar" at
YLEO convention!

=============================================================
4. Recipe of the Week: Red White and Blue Healthy Fruit Salad
=============================================================

--1 pint of fresh blueberries
--1 pound of fresh red seedless grapes
--1 8 oz container of plain yogurt
--Stevia or Agave

--Wash fruit and pat dry
--Mix together
--Fold in yogurt and add Stevia to taste
--Chill and serve.

=========================================
5. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

The Fourth of July weekend was coming up, and the nursery school
teacher took the opportunity to tell her class about patriotism.

"We live in a great country," she said. "One of the things we
should be happy about is that, in this country, we are all free."

One little boy came walking up to her from the back of the room.
He stood with his hands on his hips and said. . . .
"I'm not free. I'm four."
