1. Natural Solutions to TMJ (Jaw Discomfort)
============================================

Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ disorders) can be
very disabling for sufferers.

The temporomandibular joint is the one that joins
your lower jaw to your skull, and can be felt if
you press lightly just in front of your ear and
move your jaw.

This 'jaw joint' is one of the ones we use most
often during the day, every time we talk, bite,
chew or yawn. It is a complex set up of
bones, muscles and tendons and any one of these
parts can become inflamed and sore.

Many things can lead to TMJ disorders, but the most common are:

--Dental problems and misalignment of teeth. This can be caused
by TMJ or lead to TMJ as sufferers chew on one side of their
mouth.

--Teeth grinding or clenching can lead to TMJ disorder by wearing
the cartilage of the joint. This behavior often occurs during
sleep and the sufferer is unaware they are doing it until they
are told, but they wake up every morning with a stiff or painful
jaw.

--A history of a facial injury. Fractured jaws, or other facial
bones, can lead to TMJ disorder.

--Chewing gum or nail biting. This is an overuse issue.

--Stress, because it can lead to jaw clenching or teeth grinding.

--Occupational issues, such as holding a telephone to your ear
with your shoulder whilst talking.

The most common symptoms are:

--Pain. About eighty percent of sufferers will have headaches
and/or facial pain. This pain is worse when opening or closing
the jaw.

--Ear pain occurs in about half of all patients, often
leading to unnecessary antibiotic treatment for ear infection.

--Sounds. Patients are often aware of grinding and/or clicking
noises when they move their jaws.

--Other ear symptoms, such as feelings of "fullness", dizziness,
tinnitus and muffled hearing. This can lead to misdiagnosis as
ear infection.

Some natural healing options:

· Rest the jaw. This can mean eating only a soft diet and trying
to reverse such behaviors as teeth grinding and clenching.

· Heat or cold packs. Cold packs are best at the start of an
attack as they stop blood flow to the area and prevent
inflammation. Once it has developed, heat packs work better as
they relax the muscles.

· Pain relief with natural anti-inflammatories like MSM (Young
Living's Sulfurzyme is an excellent MSM product), essential fatty
acids like fish oils and flax.

--Essential oils can give good relief (of course the therapeutic
grade oils, not perfume grade oils). Wintergreen is an effective
anti-inflammatory and lavender oil is often indicated in the
natural approach to TMJ.

--Indian head massage, healing touch and reiki are also very
effective. Seek out qualified practitioners of these healing
arts.

========================================
2. Essential Oil Tip: Lavender for TMJ
========================================

Rubbing a few drops of therapeutic grade lavender on your
fingertips and applying to the joint area can be very effective.

Watch this video (1 min 38 sec) where and how to apply:

3. Success Tip: Arthur C. Clarke
================================

The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going
beyond them into the impossible.

--Arthur C. Clarke

==================================================
4. Recipe of the Week: Super Mango Smoothie
==================================================

This smoothie is ideal for life on the go, and for drinking when
you can't chew solid food. It is full of vitamins, minerals and
antioxidants.

--1 large mango, peeled and chopped
--2 bananas, peeled and chopped
--Small serving of ground flax seeds
--1 handful of berries, blueberries or raspberries are ideal
(For a real antioxidant boost add one ounce of Ningxia Red!)

· Blend the mango, bananas and flax
· Serve over the berries.
· To drink on the go blend in the berries (dilute
with water or rice milk if too thick)

This smoothie can be served warm if you gently heat the mango and
banana with some water before blending (add Ningxia Red after
heating).

5. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

~A Smart Mouth~

A truck driver was driving along on the freeway.
A sign comes up that reads "Low Bridge Ahead"
Before he knows it, the bridge is right ahead of him and he gets
stuck under the bridge.
Cars are backed up for miles.
Finally, a police car comes up.
The cop gets out of his car and walks to the truck driver, puts
his hands on his hips and says, "Got stuck, huh?"
The truck driver says, "No officer, I was delivering this bridge
and ran out of gas."

============================================================
1. Keen what? - A Delicious High Protein Food You Will Love
============================================================

Many people think "quinoa" (pronounced Keen-wah) is a grain but
it's not - it is a seed related to the Spinach family.

Even though it is a seed, quinoa cooks and tastes like a grain.

The earliest records of its use go back 5,000 years to the
Incas, but it is now being rediscovered and used as a new super
food.

Quinoa is the ideal gluten-free replacement for people
who have to avoid grains, such as candida sufferers and celiacs.

Celiacs benefit from having a gluten free alternative and
candida sufferers are thrilled to find out that it doesn't
feed the candida organism - it feeds the normal bowel bacteria.

But you don't have to suffer from one of these complaints to get
the benefit of it. Quinoa is a complete source of protein,
containing all the essential amino acids that we need to be
healthy.

This makes it ideal to form part of a vegetarian diet,
particularly as it is easily digested. The benefits don't stop
there. It is a rich source of fiber and contains more essential
minerals than traditional grains.

It is also a good source of the important mineral magnesium, and
magnesium plays many roles in our body, contributing to lowering
blood pressure, reducing inflammation and controlling our blood
sugar levels.

This makes it a good food for diabetics, migraine sufferers,
arthritis sufferers, heart patients and sufferers from
other inflammatory diseases.

Quinoa has high levels of the important antioxidants copper
and manganese as well. Tests show that it is a rich source
of these minerals along with calcium, iron, phosphorus,
potassium and zinc, richer than the usually used grains of
wheat, barley and corn.

Quinoa can be used in any meal, it is an ideal breakfast food.
I like to cook carrots and onions in my quinoa for breakfast.

It can also be made as a couscous style salad for lunch or used
in evening meals.

Some quinoa dishes recommend soaking it before cooking. You can
add probiotics to the soaking water which increases its digestive
benefits.

Give Quinoa a try, it has many fans, and for good reason. It
can be found in most health food stores or online.

Here is a 29 second video on my choice of brand of quinoa

2. Essential Oil Tip: Keep the 'Skeeters Away!
=====================================================

Have mosquitoes been putting a hole in your plans this summer?

Do you realize how effective essential oils can be in repelling
mosquitos?

Citronella is the best known essential oil for repelling bugs.

Most people think of the "citronella candle" (that is usually
stinky and toxic - because it is usually petrochemical based,
not natural and organic), they don't know that citronella is
a natural essential oil.

Natural citronella is found in Young Living's blend Purification
(which is great for bugs in general - and great for skin too!)

There are other essential oils that can also be effective:

--clove
--eucalyptus
--lemon grass
--peppermint
--tea tree
--cedarwood

Make your own repellent lotion by whipping together 2 oz of water
and 2 oz of vegetable oil and adding 120 drops of your chosen
oil. Make your own spray by taking 10 oz vodka (or rubbing
alcohol), 1 oz of olive oil and 120 drops of essential oil and
shaking in a spray bottle.

--Purification is a YL blend that is fabulous

3. Success Tip: Dr. Joyce Brothers
=====================================

Success is a state of mind.

If you want success, start thinking
of yourself as a success.

-- Dr. Joyce Brothers

==================================================
4. Recipe of the Week: Spicy Quinoa
==================================================

This is quite an elaborate recipe in some ways. Simple Quinoa
recipes can usually be found on the packs you buy it in, so I
thought I'd give something a bit more exotic to try.

Can serve up to eight.

1 cup Quinoa
1 ½ teaspoon olive oil
½ onion, diced
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
½ fresh green chili, chopped
1 heaped teaspoon turmeric
1 heaped teaspoon coriander
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon salt
1 ¾ cups water
½ cup fresh or frozen peas.

· Rinse the Quinoa thoroughly to remove coating.
· Saute the onions until soft. Add the chili, ginger and Quinoa
and cook for one minute. As the Quinoa cooks, you should see a
spiral form on the grain.
· Add the turmeric, coriander, cinnamon and salt then cook for
one minute.
· Add the water and simmer for fifteen minutes.
· Stir in the peas and cook until tender and the water absorbed.
· Fluff with a fork and serve.
· Some people enjoy chopped cilantro leaves on this dish.

=========================================
5. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

Passive Aggressive Peter and the Skeeter

Peter was trying to sleep, but as he tried a mosquito came
in and disturbed his sleep with its sound "bzzzzzz, bzzzzzz."

He gets very irritated. He tries to cover his ear but the
problem remains. Eventually he gets up and catches the
mosquito in his hand. He doesn't want to kill the insect,
but still wants to take revenge.

He starts singing a lullaby, "Rock a bye baby..."

After some time he finds the mosquito falling into deep sleep in
his hands. So he bends over his hands and says
"Bzzzzzzzzzzzz Bzzzzzzzzzzzzz."

========================
1. Dreams Can Help You
========================

Dreams have a long history of being recorded
and used as tools to help us live our lives.

Dreams have been described as messages
from our subconscious or as messages from
the Divine or prophecies of the future.

Because dreams were thought to be messages,
many cultures have sought to stimulate dreams
in order to use them.

The most common way to stimulate dreaming is
by the use of herbs or essential oils in teas or
in pillows, and for some by the use of crystals.

Dream pillows contain dried herbs and are placed
under your pillow to promote restful sleep as well
as stimulate dreams.

You can also use essentail oils to sprinkle on your
pillowcase before you go to bed - or to rub on your body.

Lavender and chamomile will promote sleep. A good oil for
insomnia (that is much stronger smelling) is vetiver - rubbed
on your feet before you go to bed.

Lemon balm (Melissa) will make dreams more vivid.

Rosemary will help you remember your dreams.

Learn how to make your own Dream Pillow:
http://snipurl.com/make_dream_pillow

Other good oils to use are jasmine or sandalwood or frankincense
oil. You can mix and match any of these until you find the
perfect blend that helps you dream, or you can use a blend
already made for this - Dream Catcher (see below).

Drinking teas made from rosemary, basil or chamomile
before bed are noted to help dispel nightmares. Using the
essential oils are just as effective (or more!).

Any of these herbs can be used in essential oil form in a
bath or massage oil before bedtime, or try a few drops of a
special sleep oil blend on your pillow.
(See my essential tip in this newsletter.)

Are you dreaming?

And are you living your dreams?

Would you like to learn how to re-ignite your dream for your
life? Especially if you are in the second half of your life?

I interviewed the author of the forthcoming book "Second Chance
at Your Dream" this past week for the Home Spa Lady community.

Dorothea Hover-Kramer, also the author of the Healing Touch text
book, is a leader in Energy Psychology and her new work is on how
to use the body's energies to create your dreams!

This interview is availiable to you until September 25th, and you
can access the recording and the download file at:
http://snipurl.com/gtwm_2nd_chancedream

====================================
2. Essential Oil Tip: Dream Catcher
====================================

"Dream Catcher" is an exotic formula designed to enhance the
process of dreaming and visualization.

The ability to hold onto your dreams - positive dreams that move
you forward emotionally and spiritually - can lead to a greater
ability to realize your desires and stay on the path of
fulfillment.

Dream Catcher also protects against negative dreams that may
cloud your vision.

Here are the ingredients in this fabulous blend from Young
Living:

Sandalwood
Tangerine
Ylang ylang
Black pepper
Piper nigrum
Bergamot
Juniper
Anise
Blue tansy

5. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

A Young Person's Dream

During a quarrel with his parents, the teenager
announced, "I want excitement, adventure, money,
and beautiful people, and to travel the world!

I`ll never find it here at home, so I`m leaving.
And don`t try to stop me!"

As he headed for the door, his father followed him.
"Didn`t you hear me? Don`t try to stop me!"

1. Drink Water, Love it, and Pray for it too
=============================================

Drinking water is one of the most important things
we can do for our health.

Most people are dehydrated and this shows in their
appearance and in their general health.

Lack of water can create many physical annoyances
such as headaches, constipation, and even moodiness -
as well as wrinkly skin.

An excellent book to read about the importance of
drinking water (and the many symptoms from lack of water
you would never think about) is "Your Body's Many Cries
for Water" by F. Batmanghelidj, MD.

We need a certain amount of water every day for our
bodies and our mind to function at an optimal level.

We get a significant amount of water from foods we eat,
like veggies and fruits, but here is the recommended
amounts of water we should drink according to The
Institute of Medicine:

--Men - 13 cups
--Women - 9 cups

A more specific formula that I believe is better is half
of your body's weight in ounces.

The best way to be certain to drink plenty of water
is to carry a bottle with you wherever you go, and sip
it throughout the day. But you must be careful what type
of container you drink out of!

Many plastic water bottles leak plastics and other chemicals
into the water and mimic estrogen in the body that can lead to
cancer.

A sensible alternative to carrying your water is glass - but
it breaks too easily.

The perfect answer is a stainless steel water bottle which you
can carry everywhere and wash easily.

These bottles come in various sizes and shapes, with different
lids so you should find one to suit your needs.

Look at http://snipurl.com/noplasticwaterbottle to see what is
available.

--Learn About Emoto's Work

With water playing such an important role in our very existence,
it is important that we look after this resource by fighting
pollution and calling on governments to help prevent pollution
and wastage.

Water has a spiritual side as well, as anyone who has ever sat
and stared over a body of water can testify.

Water calls to a spiritual side of our being. Dr Emoto has
carried this theory forward in his research into energizing water
with thoughts feelings, beliefs, and prayer.

As a part of his Emoto Peace Project he recently held a
ceremony at the largest freshwater lake in the
world, Lake Baikai, to send love and gratitude throughout the
world by way of the water. The choice of location was made in
response to reports of pollution of this precious resource.

2. Essential Oil Tip: Lemon for Clean Drinking Water
=====================================================

A few drops of therapeutic lemon essential oil added to
drinking water has been shown to kill diphtheria,
tuberculosis, staphylococcus aureus (golden staph) and
meningococcus bacteria.

It's also a great alkalinizing agent!

Lemon oil has a similar effect on airborne bacteria.

Here is how to make great lemon water with your
therapeutic grade lemon essential oil

This classic lemon sorbet is a fat free, palate-cleansing,

5. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

THE LEMON and THE LITTLE OLD MAN

The local bar was so sure that its bartender was the strongest
man around that they offered a standing $1000 bet:

The bartender would squeeze a lemon until all the
juice ran into a glass, and hand the lemon to a patron.

Anyone who could squeeze one more drop of juice out
would win the money.

Many people had tried over time (professional wrestlers,
longshoremen, etc.), but nobody could do it.

One day this scrawny little man came in, wearing thick glasses
and a polyester suit, and said in a tiny, squeaky voice, "I'd
like to try the bet."

After the laughter had died down, the bartender agreed,
grabbed a lemon, and squeezed away. Then he handed the dried,
wrinkled remains of the rind to the little man.

But the crowd's laughter turned to total silence as the man
clenched his fist around the lemon and SIX drops fell into the
glass.

As the crowd cheered, the bartender paid the $1000, and asked the
little man, "What do you do for a living? Are you a lumberjack, a
weight lifter, or what?"

The man replied, "I work for the IRS."
