10 Questions to Help You Set Achievable Goals

It can be difficult to set goals and keep to them, especially if
you have set them before and not achieved them. It can quickly
become frustrating and discouraging. This article contains 10
power questions that will help you look at what you really want
in life and then you can set goals that are aimed at obtaining
the life you really want.

So lets get started! Grab a pen and paper so you can write down
the answers to these power questions to help you take control of
your life and then to set goals that will make you happier with
who you are and with your life.

--If you were to fully life your life, what change would you
make first? Take a good honest look at your life and ask yourself
what is holding you back from living to the fullest.

--What areas of your life could be upgraded and what are you
tolerating or just 'putting up with'? Situations in your life
that you are tolerating but are not really happy with, will
eventually drain you. Pin point these areas in your life.

--What do you want MORE of in your life? It may be more family
time, more money, more holidays, more kids etc

--What do you want LESS of? It may be strife, stress, late
nights at the office etc

--What are three things that you do regularly that do not
support or serve you? It may be over sleeping, watching too much
TV, playing video games for hours on end, etc

--What would you try now if you knew you would not fail?

--Write down 3 things you love.

--Write down 3 things you hate.

--What is the one thing you would love to do before you die?

--What is one change that you could make to your lifestyle that
would give you more peace? It can be anything. Getting up in time
for work so you are not rushing, attending yoga once a week,
going for a swim, making time for a cup of tea after work before
you pick up the kids etc

Once you have answered these questions, you have a fair idea of
where you want to go in life, what you love, what you hate. Now
set your goals around these answers and you will be aiming for a
life that you really want.

New Year's Prayer

May we get a clean bill of health from our:
dentist
ophthalmologist
cardiologist
gastroenteritis
urologist
proctologist
gynecologist
podiatrist
plumber
hairdresser
the IRS.

May our hair, our teeth, our facelift, our abs,
our honey cakes, and our stocks not fall
and may our blood pressure, our triglycerides,
our cholesterol, our white blood count,
our weight and our mortgage interest rates
not rise.

May we find a way to travel from anywhere to anywhere
in the rush hour in less than an hour
and when we get there, may we find a parking space.

May our computers not crash or catch a virus.

May the internet increase speed so that we can go virtually at
the speed of enlightenment.

May we be sensitive to the needs of others and create balance
with our own.

May we accept that we may not keep up with our New Year's
resolutions.

May we laugh at ourselves and realize that if we were
supposed to touch our toes while exercising, nature would have
put them further up our bodies; and, the reason so many of us
take up jogging is to hear heavy breathing again.

May what we see in the mirror delight us and what others see in
us, delight them.

May someone love us enough to accept and forgive our faults, be
blind to our blemishes, and tell the world about our virtues.

May the telemarketers wait until after we finish dinner to call
us. May our checkbooks and budgets balance.

May we remember to say "I love you" at least once a day to our
spouse, our child, our parent, all of our significant others.

May we live in a world at peace, with awareness of the beauty in
every sunset, flower, baby's smile, lover's kiss, and every
wonderful astonishing beat of our heart.

May we smile and laugh throughout the year.

1. Prevent Holiday Pounds
==========================

This is a time of year when we are most apt to put
on the pounds ~ even if we are well intended to
NOT eat the cookies!

With all of the social events, gatherings, and festivities, we
have more opportunities to eat more often - and a darn good
excuse - "its the holidays!".

Here are some tips to prevent weight gain over this holiday
season:

--Make sure you have a few supplements that will naturally keep
your metabolism in check, such as chromium. Chromium is used in
the body for carbohydrate metabolism and insulin function.
The Institute of Medicine has set the Reference Daily Intake (RDI)
for chromium at 120 mcg. Clinical research, however, suggests
that 200-400 mcg is an appropriate daily intake for optimal
health benefits. Read more: http://snipurl.com/chromium

--Essential Fatty Acids (like fish oil, flax and evening primrose
oils) are also good supplements to be taking. EFA's are known
to enhance "thermogenesis" and lipid metabolism which reduces
body fat deposits.

--Drink green tea - it too increases metabolism

--Use peppermint oil everyday (inhalation or topical), it
decreases appetite. (It's also great for sinus congestion,
headaches, joint discomfort, upset stomachs too!)

--If you are attending an evening party or dinner with friends or
family, make sure you eat a big lunch.

--Wait one hour after you eat before you hit the sweets.

--Don't drink alcohol on an empty stomach. If and when you do
drink alcoholic beverages, alternate with non-alcoholic drinks.

--If you are having your own dinner party, place the foods
strategically so you can grab for healthier choices right next
to the less than healthier choice (ie - celery, cucumber,
and carrots next to or in the cheese tray. . .and your fruit next
to the cookies.)

--Stop eating when you are full!

======================================
2. Holiday Cookies - For Your Bath!
=======================================

Holiday Bath Cookies

Here's a great way to take all the cookies
you want and not gain an ounce - by bathing
in them!

1/2 cup cornstarch
1 teaspoon Vitamin E oil
2 tablespoons light oil
2 eggs
2 cups finely ground sea salt
1/2 cup baking soda
5-6 drops essential oil of your choice

--Blend all the ingredients to form a dough mixture.
--Roll a teaspoon of dough between your palms to form a
ball. Do the same for all dough then place balls on an ungreased
cookie sheet.
--Bake bath cookies for 10 minutes, until lightly browned.
--Allow to cool.
--Dissolve 1 or 2 cookies in warm bath water.

4. Essential Oil Tip: Christmas Spirit
========================================

This is the most wonderful essential oil blend.

It's a purifying blend of evergreen, citrus, and
spice that brings joy, peace, happiness, and security.

This blend is a combination of Orange, Cinnamon Bark,
and Spruce.

This smells wonderful diffused throughout the home
and it has great natural antiviral, antifungal,
and antibacterial effects!

Cold air diffusion (with a special essential oil diffuser)
is the best way to use this blend for the optimum effects.

You can also add a few drops to wood before putting it in
the fireplace. And for a real treat when cleaning the house
you can splash a few drops on your paper vacuum cleaner bag!

8. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

Entering Heaven

Three men died on Christmas Eve and were met by Saint Peter at
the pearly gates.

"In honor of this holy season," Saint Peter said, "You must each
possess something that symbolizes Christmas to get into heaven."

The first man fumbled through his pockets and pulled out a
lighter. He flicked it on. "It represents a candle," he said.
"You may pass through the pearly gates," Saint Peter said.

The second man reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of
keys. He shook them and said, "They're bells." Saint Peter said,
"You may pass through the pearly gates."

The third man started searching desperately through his pockets
and finally pulled out a pair of women's glasses.

St. Peter looked at the man with a raised eyebrow and asked, "And
just what do those symbolize?"

The man replied, "They're Carol's."

============================================================
1. Vitamin D is for "Doggonit, Don't Get the Holiday Blues!"
============================================================

Holiday season can be loaded with stress. There's much more on
our plates during this season than any other time of the year.

Besides time and financial pressures, emotional issues connected
with this season such as family stuff, memories, unmet
expectations. . .can send ya spinnin'!

Combine that with less sunlight from shorter days and one can
easily plummet into the range of "the holiday blues".

Vitamin D is often an overlooked resource for many things, and
that includes combating the "blues".

There are several ways to get good daily doses of Vitamin D, and
the best, easiest, and cheapest way is getting about 15 minutes
of natural sunlight exposure.

So, take a walk outside in the sunshine every day!

If you are concerned about 15 minutes of sun exposure
you needn't be (sunscreen has it own dangers
http://snipurl.com/sunscreendangers) as long as you are taking
high levels of anti-oxidants (daily Ningxia Red is perfect!).

Walking outside in the sun will not only give you more Vitamin D,
but moving the body and breathing in fresh air will promote your
lymphatic circulation and oxygenate your body! It's a simple yet
profound practice.

A great alternative source for Vitamin D is drinking Cod Liver
Oil everyday. It's not that bad! (I can hear you say "ugh"). If
you get the mint flavored it is easy to take. One of my favorite
sources for this is Dr. Ron's at www.drrons.com.

Other benefits to Vitamin D:

--Reduces cancer risk (http://snipurl.com/vitdbeatscancer)
--Boosts calcium absorption
--Aids in psoriasis treatment
--Prevents osteoporosis

Learn more about the great benefits of Vitamin D and the health
benefits of natural sunlight: www.uvadvantage.com

============================
2. For the Sunlight Starved
============================

Sunlight has an ancient legacy of healing.

"Heliotherapy" is the name of the therapy that uses light to
treat medical conditions.

Herodotus, the "father of heliotherapy", wrote that exposure to
the sun is necessary to help people overcome failing health.
He recommended that the "patient" should "permit the sun to
strike full upon him in the winter".

That isn't always possible especially today with people's busy
lifestyles. But we are fortunate enough to have full spectrum
light bulbs that we can use to augment our sunlight!

Full spectrum light bulbs at home or in work can make such
a difference in mood, energy level, and health.

I always like to take Dr. Mercola's (www.mercola.com)
recommendations. You can read more about this on his site:
http://snipurl.com/fullspectrumlight

=======================
3. Foods Fend Off Flu
=======================

This was reported on WebMD just last week!

WebMD reports that to help prevent flu, you
should feast on foods rich in natural vitamins,
antioxidants, and omega-3 fatty acids.

Among the best: spinach, bell peppers,
blueberries, cranberries,tomatoes, turkey,
salmon, sweet potatoes, low-fat yogurt, nuts
and beans.

A mug of black or green tea is also packed with healthy
phytochemicals!

=================================
4. Great Essential Oil Gift Idea!
=================================

This is one of my favorite gift ideas - and I admit, I bought a
piece for myself - and I LOVE it!

This truly is the most gorgeous jewelry for your essential
oils that you will ever find.

And, one of Cathy elves called me today and said there is still
time for them to ship PERSONALIZED merchandise in time for
Christmas!

Check it out! http://snipurl.com/aromawear

========================================
5. Essential Oil Tip: Peace and Calming
========================================

This favorite essential oil blend cannot be
over-emphasized!

Holidays are a great time of year to use it to keep
stress levels low! (don't forget, this is a good
one for your animals too!)

Peace & CalmingĀ® is a gentle, fragrant blend.

When diffused, it helps calm tensions and uplift the spirit,
promoting relaxation and a deep sense of peace.

When massaged on the bottoms of the feet, it can be a wonderful
prelude to a peaceful night's rest.

Peace & Calming may be especially calming and comforting to young
children after an overactive and stressful day.

Diffuse in bedrooms, living areas and office.

Apply to bottom of feet, wrists and outside of ears.

Blend with V-6 Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex for a calming
massage.

Ingredients: Tangerine (Citrus nobilis), orange (Citrus
aurantium), ylang ylang (Cananga odorata), patchouli (Pogostemon
cablin) and blue tansy (Tanacetum annuum).

6. Success Tip: James R. Bickford
================================

8. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

The Night Before Solstice

Twas the night before solstice and all through the co-op
Not a creature was messing the calm status quo up.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
Dreaming of lentils and warm whole-grain breads.

We'd welcomed the winter that day after school
By dancing and drumming and burning the Yule,
A more meaningful gesture to honor the planet
Than buying more trinkets for Mom or Aunt Janet,

Or choosing a tree just to murder and stump it
And deck it all out like a seasonal strumpet.
My spouse and I, having turned down the heat,
Slipped under the covers for some well-deserved sleep,

When from out on the lawn there came such a roar
I slipped from my futon and rolled to the floor.
I crawled to the window and pulled back the latch,
And muttered, "Aw, where is that Neighborhood Watch?"

I saw there below through the murk of the night
A sleigh and eight reindeer, challenged of height.
At the reins of that sleigh sat a mean-hearted knave
Who treated each deer like some personal slave.

I'd seen him before in some ads for car loans,
Plus fast food, soft drinks and cellular car phones.
He must have cashed in from these mercantile chores,
Since self-satisfaction just oozed from his pores.

He called each by name, as if 'twere his right
To treat them like chattel enhancing his might:
"Now Donner, now Blitzen," and other such aliases,
Showing his true Euro-centrical biases.

With a snap of his fingers away they all flew,
Like old hippies serving up brie or tofu.
Up to the rooftop they carried the sleigh
(The damage to my shingles is there to this day).

Out bounded the man, who went straight to the flue.
I knew in an instant just what I should do.
After donning my slippers, downstairs did I dash
To see this trespasser emerge from the ash.

His clothes were all covered with soot, well of course,
From our wood-fueled alternative energy source.
Through the grime I distinguished the make of his duds--
He was trimmed all in fur, fairly dripping with blood!

"We're a cruelty-free house!" I proclaimed with such heat
He was startled and tripped on the logs at his feet.
He stood back up dazed, but with mirth in his eyes.
It was then that I noticed his unhealthy size.

He was almost as wide as when standing erect,
A lover of fatty fried foods, I suspect.
But that wasn't all to make sane persons choke:
In his teeth sat a pipe that was belching out smoke!

I could scarcely believe what had invaded our house--
This carcinogenic and overweight louse
Was so red in the face from his energy spent,
I expected a coronary right there and then.

Behind him he toted a red velvet bag
Full to exploding with sinister swag.
He asked, "Where is your tree?" with a face somewhat long.
I said, "Out in the yard, which is where it belongs."

"But where will I put all the presents I've brought?"
I looked at him squarely and said, "Take the whole lot
To some frivolous people who think that they need
To succumb to the sickness of commerce and greed,

Whose only joy comes from the act of consuming,
Thus sending the value of retail stocks booming."
He blinked and said, "Ho, ho, ho! But you're kidding."
I gave him a stare that was stern and forbidding.

"Surely children need something with which to have fun?
Or it's like childhood's over before it's begun."
He looked in my eyes for some sign of assent,
But I strengthened my will and refused to relent.

"They have plenty of fun," I cut to the gist,
"And your mindless distractions have never been missed.
They take CPR so that they can save lives,
And they go door-to-door on used clothing drives.

They recycle, renew, reuse and reveal
For saving the planet's a laudable zeal.
When they padlock themselves to a fence to protest
Against nuclear power, we think they're the best."

He said, "But they're children--lo, when do they play?"
I countered, "Is that why you've come in your sleigh,
"To bring joy to the hearts of each child and tot?
All right, open your bag; let's see what you've got."

He sheepishly did as I'd asked and behold!
A Malibu Barbie in a skirt of gold.
"You think that my girls will like playing with this,
An icon of sexist, consumerist kitsch?

With its unnat'ral figure and airheaded grin,
This trollop makes every girl yearn to be thin,
And take up fad diets, bingeing and purging
Instead of respecting her own body's urging

To welcome the shape that her body has found
And rejoice to be lanky, short, skinny or round."
Deep from his satchel he produced up a toy,
Saying, "This is a hit with most every boy."

And what did he put in my trembling hand
But a gun from the BrainBlaster Power Command!
"It's a 'hit,' to be sure," I sneered in his face,
"And a plague and a pox on the whole human race!

How 'bout grenades or some working bazookas
To turn all of our kids into half-wit palookas?"
I seized on his bag just to see for myself
The filth being spread by this odious elf.

An Easy-Bake Oven--ah, goddess, what perfidy!
To hoodwink young girls into household captivity!
Plus an archer play set with shafts that fly out,
The very thing to put a child's eye out.

And toy metal tractors, steam shovels and cranes
For destroying woodlands and scarring the plains,
Plus "games" like Monop'ly, Pay Day, Tycoon,
As if lessons in greed can't start up too soon.

And even more weapons from BrainBlasters Co.,
Like cannons and nun-chucks and ray guns that glow.
That's all I could find in his red velvet sack--
Perverseness and mayhem to set us all back.

"We need none of this," I announced in a huff,
"No 'business-as-usual' holiday stuff.
"We sow in our offspring more virtue than this.
Your goods are things that they'll never miss."

The big man's expression was a trifle bereaved
As he shouldered his pack and got ready to leave.
"I pity the kids who grow up around here,
Who're never permitted to be of good cheer,

Who aren't allowed leisure for leisure's own sake,
But must fret every minute--it makes my heart ache!"
"Enough histrionics! Don't pity our kids
If they don't do as Macys or Toys 'R' Us bids.

They live by their principles first and foremost
And know what's important," to him I did boast.
"Pray, could I meet them?" "Oh no, they're not here.
By now, they're on the roof, liberating your deer!"

At that Santa sputtered and pointed his finger
But, mad as he was, he had no time to linger.
He flew up the chimney like smoke from a fire,
And up on the roof I heard voices get higher.

I ran outside the co-op to see him react
To my children's responsible, kindhearted act.
He chased them away, and disheartened, dismayed,
He rehitched his reindeer (who'd docilely stayed).

I watched with delight as he scooted off then;
He'd be too embarrassed to come back again.
But with parting disdain, do you know what he said,
This overweight huckster when he took off in his sled?

This reindeer enslaver, this exploiter of elves?
"Happy Christmas to all, but get over yourselves!!"

1. The Magic of the Biblical Oils
==================================

Christmas is the perfect time to acknowledge that
we have access to something today that was highly
valued and considered almost priceless when the
story of Christmas began.

Essential oils, sometimes known as liquid gold, are probably
the most magical elements on earth. This was a known fact
throughout biblical history, and is one of the reasons why they
were gifts brought to the Christ child.

The miraculous healing properties of essential oils are still
known today but are unfortunately overshadowed by man-made
pharmaceuticals that minimize symptoms of disease and rarely
heal.

One of the greatest teachers alive today on the subject of the
miraculous healing powers of essential oils is Dr. David Stewart.

David Stewart, PhD is a scientist, scholar, and a most spiritual
man. He calls essential oils "God's Love Manifest As Molecules"
and has the most amazing ability to explain how the benzene ring
of the essential oil molecule expresses energy, life force, and
love that can heal on the most profound levels.

Dr. Stewart is the author of "The Healing Oils of the Bible" and
"The Chemistry of Essential Oils Made Easy". He has an
educational program (CARE = Center for Aromatherapy Research and
Education) in the study of essential oil chemistry, Raindrop
Technique, and Vitaflex technique (www.raindroptraining.com).

I've been blessed to be a friend of Dr. Stewart and his wife Lee
for several years. I studied with him in the second CARE class
that he ever taught (these CARE classes are now taught
throughout the country by several trained instructors). I had
the best chemistry lesson ever!

Next week Dr. Stewart will be a guest on my "Green Tea with
Marilee" teleseminar and I really hope you join us. ( Click here,
or copy and paste into browser, for details - date, time, etc:

Of course I will ask Dr. Stewart to talk specifically about the
biblical oils and the special properties that they have over the
other oils. And I particularly want him to speak to the "magical"
powers (those are MY words) of Frankincense oil!

But what I would like you to do, if you decide to join us, is to
ask YOUR question. I know many of you have so many questions
about essential oils because you often write to me. David
Stewart is a leading authority in therapeutic essential oils
today and you have access to him next week if you like!

(Even if you can't make the date and time of the call - you still
CAN ask your question and you will hear the answer on the
recorded disc that you will receive in the mail).

This is a perfect time of year to highlight this topic of
biblical essential oils and to be reminded of the Essence of the
Season - birth, new life and hope.

I might not believe in Santa anymore, but I believe in this with
all my heart. And I am thrilled and honored to bring Dr. Stewart
to your warm holiday homes next week - please join us!

2. Essential Oil Tip: Essence of the Season
===========================================

This is one of my favorite kits. I love burning the resins in
the fireplace at a special time. The Christmas Spirit blend is
the best thing to diffuse throughout the holiday. Your holiday
company will say to you "What smells so good? - it's fabulous!"

I thought I would cover three amazing oils with one
recommendation here ~ The Essence of the Season Kit.

It has:

--Frankincense
--Myrrh
--Christmas Spirit

--Frankincense resin
--Myrrh resin

3. Success Tip: Herbert Bayard Swope
=======================================

"I cannot give you the formula for success, but I can give you
the formula for failure which is: Try to please everybody."

==================================
4. Recipe of the Week: Manna Bread
==================================

2 Cups of wheat sprouted (preferably organic wheat)
1 lb dates
1 Cup raisins
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cloves

OPTIONAL: 1 T chopped filberts

--Sprout the wheat (takes about two days).

Easiest way is to put the wheat in a container with holes in the
lid. Fill it with water and let it set for a few minutes then
drain the water. Repeat this process several times a day. When
the sprouts are about 1/2 to 3/4 the length of the grain, they are
ready to use. If the sprouts are ready and you are not, store
them in the fridge. If you do not change the water very often it
just takes them longer to sprout.

--Drain the sprouted wheat well

--Place in food processor with the dates and buzz until a dough
ball forms. You may need to add a little water.

--Stir cinnamon and cloves. Note this version is not very spicy.
You can triple the amount shown to make it more spicy.

--Stir in raisins.

--Shape into two loaves.

--Sprinkle the chopped nuts on the outside if you are including
filberts.

--Bake for 2 - 3 hours at 300 degrees.

Note: If you have problems getting the dough because the mixture
is too wet, add a little whole wheat flour.

Thank you to Barb Beck from Edmonton Alberta Canada

5. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

Visiting his grandparents, a small boy opened the big family
Bible.

He was fascinated as he fingered through the old pages. Suddenly,
something fell out.

He picked it up and found that it was an old leaf that had been
pressed flat between the pages.

"Mama, look what I found," he called out.
"What have you got there, dear?" his mother asked.

With astonishment in his voice, the boy answered, "I think it's
Adam's underwear!"
