1. 12 Reasons to Eat Watermelon
===================================

Sweet treats in the summertime. .yummm. . especially when
they are cold and refreshing!

The classic image of going out for ice cream on a hot summer eve
can be so appealing, but remains that, an image - at least for
those of us who make food choices that don't include refined
sugar.

The best way to satisfy that hankering for a cold refreshing
sweet treat in the summer is with watermelon.

And satisfying our "summertime sweet tooth" is not the only
reason to eat watermelon - here are 12 other very important
health reasons to eat this delicious fruit. . .

1. Provides additional water to the body

2. Good for bad breath

3. Hangover remedy

4. Can improve sore throat and mouth sores

5. Cleanses the kidneys (juice the entire watermelon - rind,
seeds, and all and drink for a good kidney cleanse)

6. Naturally gets rid of excess fluid in the body - it has
diuretic properties

7. Liver supportive - contains glutathione

8. Cleanses blood and strengthens glands - contains chlorophyll

9. It's a good source of potassium

10. Fat free - low in calories, high in energy

11. Nutrients in watermelon include vitamins A, B6, and C

12. Helps lower risk of heart disease: Has the highest amount of
lycopenes in fruit and veggies according to the USDA Caratenoid
Database. (In Europe, researchers have found a significant
association between high dietary lycopene and a 48 percent lower
risk of heart disease)

=======================================
2. Essential Oil Tip: Water Retention
=======================================

Grapefruit essential oil is helpful in combating fluid
retention. Rub it on the bottom of the feet or on lower
abdomen, or put a few drops in water and drink it (only if it is
a therapeutic grade oil such as Young Living).

3. Quote of the Week: Wally Amos
================================

A - ttitude is the magic word
T - ogether Everyone Achieves More
E - nthusiasm is the wellspring of life
R - espect yourself, as well as others
M - ake commitments, not excuses
E - very day can be a fun day
L - ove is the answer
O - ne day at a time
N - ever give up or become a victim

==========================================
4. Recipe of the Week: Watermelon Freeze
==========================================

Watermelon Freeze

Ingredients:

4 cups seeded and cubed watermelon
2 cups cubed cantaloupe
3 fresh mint leaves or 1 mint tea bag
1 cup water
Juice of 1 fresh lemon

--Puree the melons in a food processor until smooth.
--Place in a saucepan and simmer 15 minutes.
--Meanwhile, in another pan, simmer the mint leaves or tea bag in
the water about 3 minutes.
--Strain and add this infusion to the cooked melons.
--Turn off the heat and stir in the lemon juice.

--Line a muffin pan with cupcake liners or Dixie cups
--Pour the melon puree into each one and freeze.
--When beginning to firm up, you may insert flat wooden sticks
into each treat.
--Freeze until completely hard or the papers will not peel easily
away.
--Remove papers before serving. Makes 12-18.

5. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

An old farmer was once asked what the difference was between a
watermelon and a sweet pea. He thought about it for a moment and
replied: "Well, I think about 20 minutes."

1. Five Tips to De-Stress When Traveling by Air
===============================================

This morning I read in the USA Today newspaper
about yet another plane stuck on the tarmac
this past weekend - overnight.

Crying babies and smelly bathrooms for
5 1/2 hours. Those poor folks.

Thank goodness for organizations like
Flyers Rights (http://www.flyersrights.org)
who lobby congress to free passengers from
being delayed on planes for hours.

This happened to me one time on a flight to
Mexico. I did not carry with me my normal
healthy snacks or essential oils because I
thought there would be more restrictions
flying to Mexico.

We were stuck on the tarmac at our
originating airport - for 4 1/2 hours!

From that experience I swore, no
matter what, that I will never travel again
without my 'supplies' in my carry-on.

Now when I travel my carry-on is full of
things that will keep me comfortable and
stress-f'ree during the flight, and God forbid
if we get stuck.

I designate an hour before I leave the house
to preparing my on flight carry-on.

It holds a 'to-go meal' that I usually
cook (occasionally I'll do take-out).
Even if it is only a 2 - 3 hour flight I
still take a meal.

I also have a piece or two of fruit, a bag of nuts,
and my essential oils (in a ziplock baggie).

Since we can't take water to the airport because of
security I buy 2 bottles after I go through security
(even though it costs a fortune), and I put that in
my carry-on.

I don't want to wait for the steward or stewardess
to serve water because it takes a long time and they
give you very little.

When we travel by air we should drink a lot of water
because flying is very dehydrating. Many people get
constipated while traveling and one of the reasons
is that they usually drink very little water.
That, coupled with an already dehydrating event,
can make for a miserable trip.

Another in-flight stressor is the lack of personal space.

It's easy to become 'territorial' about our surrounding
inches we have on our plane seat.

I never thought of myself as territorial but when
it comes to air travel I notice that I am and I realize
that it is because I am so energetically sensitive.

I remember one flight I was on with this rather large man
who was sitting behind me and over one seat. He was very
stinky and he had fallen asleep with his mouth wide open.

His snorting exhalations kept blowing my way and he had
the worst breath. I was pretty grossed out. (I would have
been better off sitting next to him than in front of him.)

I remember being so grateful for the little tissue I placed
up my sleeve on which I had dowsed one of my favorite essential
oil blends (RC).

I had that tissue under my nose the whole flight.

The condition of our body has much to do with our ability
to handle the stress of airline travel. Being well rested
and well hydrated can help our ability to deal with the
stressors of travel as well.

Here are five tips that can make your flying experience
tolerable:

1 - Before travel and during, avoid alcohol and anything
that dehydrates your body. Drink extra water if you can
even if it does have you running to the bathroom.

2 - Eat heavy the day before travel and light the day of travel.

3 - Sit in sun on plane if you can

4 - Exercise on the plane (contract and relax muscles, and stretch)

5 - Use essential oils to de-germ your environment, clean your air, protect you,
and to keep you from being affected by offensive smells.

The ultimate solution?

Manifest your very own private jet http://www.onesky.com/.

===========================================================
2. Essential Oil Tip: Gum on Pants (from airplane seatbelt)
============================================================

I had my video camera with me on the plane when this happened.

Believe it or not there was gum stuck on the buckle of the seat belt and
when I fastened it - it went all over my clothes - it was horrible!

Luckily I had this (you have to watch this 38 second video to
see what I used) in my purse and it took the gum off my pants.

(video 38 seconds)

3. Quote of the Week: Bill Gates
================================

The Wright Brothers created the single greatest
cultural force since the invention of writing.
The airplane became the first World Wide Web,
bringing people, languages, ideas, and values together.

~Bill Gates

4. Recipe of the Week: Authentic Shoo Fly Pie (Pennsylvania Dutch)
=====================================================

1 Pie pastry (9 inch)
1 Egg Yolk
3/4 cup Boiling Water
1/2 cup Brown Sugar
1/8 teaspoon Nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon Ground Cloves

--Dissolve soda in boiling water and add to egg
and molasses. Set aside.

--Stir dry ingredients together, mixing well.

--Cut in shortening until mixture looks like coarse crumbs.

--Pour molasses into pie shell.

--Sprinkle crumbs evenly over top. Do not stir.

--Bake at 450degrees for 15 minutes then reduce heat
to 350 degrees and bake 20 minutes longer.

--Cool and serve.

=========================================

FLIGHT ATTENDANT BANTER

Occasionally, airline attendants make an effort to make the "in-flight
safety lecture" and their other announcements a bit more entertaining.

Here are some real examples that have been heard or reported:

1. From a Southwest Airlines employee.... "There may be 50
ways to leave your lover, but there are only 4 ways out of
this airplane..."

2. Pilot-"Folks, we have reached our cruising altitude now,
so I am going to switch the seat belt sign off. Feel free to
move about as you wish, but please stay inside the plane till
we land...it's a bit cold outside, and if you walk on the
wings it affects the flight pattern."

3. After landing: "Thank you for flying Delta Business
Express. We hope you enjoyed giving us the business as much
as we enjoyed taking you for a ride."

4. As the plane landed and was coming to a stop at Washington
National, a lone voice comes over the loudspeaker: "Whoa, big
fella. WHOA!"

5. After a particularly rough landing during thunderstorms in
Memphis, a flight attendant on a Northwest flight announced:
"Please take care when opening the overhead compartments
because, after a landing like that, sure as hell everything
has shifted."

6. From a Southwest Airlines employee.... "Welcome aboard
Southwest Flight XXX to YYY. To operate your seatbelt, insert
the metal tab into the buckle, and pull tight. It works just
like every other seatbelt and if you don't know how to
operate one, you probably shouldn't be out in public
unsupervised. In the event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure,
oxygen masks will descend from the ceiling. Stop screaming,
grab the mask, and pull it over your face. If you have a
small child traveling with you, secure your mask before
assisting with theirs. If you are traveling with two small
children, decide now which one you love more."

7. "Weather at our destination is 50 degrees with some broken
clouds, but they'll try to have them fixed before we arrive.
Thank you, and remember, nobody loves you or your money, more
than Southwest Airlines."

8. "Your seat cushions can be used for flotation and in the
event of an emergency water landing, please take them with
our compliments."

9. "As you exit the plane, please make sure to gather all
of your belongings. Anything left behind will be distributed
evenly among the flight attendants. Please do not leave
children or spouses."

10. "Last one off the plane must clean it."

11. From the pilot during his welcome message: "We are pleased
to have some of the best flight attendants in the industry...
Unfortunately none of them are on this flight...!"

12. Overheard on an American Airlines flight into Amarillo,
Texas, on a particularly windy and bumpy day. During the final
approach, the Captain was really having to fight it. After an
extremely hard landing, the Flight Attendant came on the PA
and announced, "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Amarillo.
Please remain in your seats with your seatbelts fastened while
the Captain taxis what's left of our airplane to the gate!"

13. Another flight Attendant's comment on a less than perfect
landing:
"We ask you to please remain seated as Captain Kangaroo bounces
us to the terminal."

14. An airline pilot wrote that on this particular flight he
had hammered his ship into the runway really hard. The airline
had a policy which required the first officer to stand at the
door while the passengers exited, smile, and give them a
"Thanks for flying XYZ airline." He said that in light of his
bad landing, he had a hard time looking the passengers in the
eye, thinking that someone would have a smart comment. Finally,
everyone had gotten off except for this little old lady walking
with a cane. She said, "Sonny, mind if I as you a question?"
"Why no, Ma'am," said the pilot, "what is it?" The little old
lady said, "Did we land or were we shot down?"

15. After a real crusher of a landing in Phoenix, the Flight
Attendant came on with, "Ladies and Gentlemen, please remain in
your seats until Captain Crash and the Crew have brought the
aircraft to a screeching halt up against the gate. And, once
the tire smoke has cleared and the warning bells are silenced,
we'll open the door and you can pick your way through the
wreckage to the terminal."

16. Part of a Flight Attendant's arrival announcement: "We'd
like to thank you folks for flying with us today. And, the next
time you get the insane urge to go blasting through the skies in
a pressurized metal tube, we hope you'll think of us here at
US Airways."

======================================
1. 12 Ways to "Spa" in Your Workplace
=====================================

Why not have mini-spa experiences on your
work days - within your work place?

You can do many easy things in your
office environment to give you powerful
rejuvenating opportunities.

Here are some tips for either your home
or corporate office:

1. Create a 5 minute "mini-steam" right at your desk.

This can open your sinuses, your pores, your mind
and give you a much needed highly rejuvenating break
in your workday. Pour hot water in a cup.

Put 2 - 3 drops of an essential oil such as
eucalyptus, lavender, or peppermint in the cup.

Put your face over the cup and take a large file
folder capping over your head to create an enclosed
environment (just tell your co-workers that you
are having a private session with the little men
who make your tea - they will REALLY leave you alone!)

Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.

Write on the outside of the file folder in black
marker "Taking a 5 minute spa break - Do Not Disturb!".

2. Give yourself a 2 minute acupressure session
with points on your face.

Some people call this a non-surgical face lift.

This uses the Asian principles of opening up the
channels of energy or "chi".
It can give you an instant uplift, alleviate a headache,
clear mental fog, and bring a glow to your face.

Using both hands with the pads of your first 2 fingers
press firmly all over both sides of the face.

3. Take a 4 minute fantasy vacation.

Close your eyes, put your feet up on your desk,
take a deep breath and picture your favorite vacation spot.
See yourself there feeling good and having a great time.

The unconscious mind doesn't know the difference between
a real or imagined event. Your body will thank you!

4. Rap over a wrap.

Have a spa cuisine lunch with a good friend.
Sandwich wraps filled with veggies and protein are a good healthy
lunch. Combine that with a "heart to heart" conversation for
great stress reduction.

5. Give yourself self-administered foot
reflexology sessions right at your desk.

Keep a foot roller at your feet to roll your feet
on (shoes off) during the day. This can stimulate
reflex points on your feet that can relax and
invigorate your entire body.

Along with foot rollers you can also use a golf ball,
racquetball, or tennis ball.

Don't forget to keep a pair of comfy slippers under
your desk for times you just need to relax your feet.

6. Share a healing touch with an office mate.

Exchange a nice shoulder rub with each other to relax
those "computer tight" shoulder and neck muscles.

7. Walk outside.

Take a 10 minute nature break - and that
doesn't mean the rest room!
A stroll outside in nature can do wonders for you.

8. Surround yourself with green.

Have a voluptuous jade plant on your desk near your computer.
Not only does the shiny green color relax you, but the jade plant
helps to absorb electromagnetic frequencies that come off of
your computer screen.

In fact, many common houseplants detoxify
the environment. Keep several types of plants nearby in your
workspace. Peace lilies, spider plants, and English Ivy are all
good plants to use.

9. Relax by gazing at your desktop pet fish.

Fish are fun and relaxing to look at. A pretty and low
maintenance fish to have on your desk is the Beta fish. It
doesn't need a filtered aquarium to live in and lives on just a
few pellets of food a day.

10. Snack healthy.

Keep snacks in your desk drawer to keep your blood
sugar levels stable, especially during stressful days and days
you skip meals.

Mixed nuts, trail mix or healthy protein bars
are good to have on hand. Ningxia Red juice packets for on the go
are a great healthy energy boost (from Young Living - to order
contact your distributor or go to http://tinyurl.com/aenfp ).

11. Play light music.

Music soothes the soul - and our souls often need soothing
especially when we are stressed at work with issues and
deadlines. Have your iPod or MP3 player with some of your
favorite relaxing tunes on it playing lightly in the background.

12. Google your concerns.

If your mind is distracted from work
because of certain life issues like relationship problems, health
challenges, or family concerns, then google a phrase that best
describes your concern and read about it - such as "single again
at 50", "empty nest syndrome", "midlife crises", etc.

=================================================
2. Essential Oil Tip: Simple Tip for Dry Mouth
=================================================

For dry mouth especially at night or while sleeping.

Place one drop of cinnamon (therapeutic grade only)
on your fore finger.

Rub this on the gums on all sides of teeth with your finger.
Sleep without disruption from dry mouth.

This can be helpful for people with Sjogrens Syndrome.

products see your Young Living Distributor or go to

3. Quote of the Week: Sam Keen
==============================

Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability.

~Sam Keen

=========================================================
4. Recipe of the Week: Watermelon Feta Bruschetta
=========================================================

Ingredients:
2 tablespoon olive oil (preferably extra-virgin)
2 cups diced watermelon
1 cup feta cheese, cut into fine dice
2 tablespoons minced fresh chives
2 tablespoon minced fresh mint
4 teaspoons balsamic vinegar, or to taste
For 16 toasts:
A 24-inch-long loaf of crust Italian or French bread
1 garlic clove
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil

Instructions:
In a bowl toss together watermelon, cheese, chives, mint,
vinegar, and salt and pepper to taste and mound about 1
tablespoon on oiled side of each toast.

To make toasts: Prepare grill or preheat broiler. With a serrated
knife cut bread crosswise into 1/2-inch-thick slices. Arrange
bread slices in one layer in a shallow baking pan and bake in
middle of oven until golden, about 10 minutes.

=========================================
5. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

One summer evening, during a violent thunderstorm,
a mother was tucking her son into bed. She was
about to turn off the light when he asked with a
tremor in his voice, "Mommy, will you sleep with me tonight?"

The mother smiled and gave him a reassuring hug.
"I can't dear," she said. "I have to sleep in Daddy's room."

A long silence was broken at last by his
shaky little voice: "The big sissy."
