1. Is Your Fabric Softener Toxic?
==================================

When I walk my dog Prin, I have this little "smell" game
that I play. I got the idea from watching him sniff at his
favorite checkpoints around the block.

I observe the many smells that I encounter in my
neighborhood and try to decide what is natural and what is
chemical, and see what wins out.

In the spring and summer the natural smells usually win
with the flowering of plants and the fresh cut grass.

The chemical smells win out on various days throughout the year
when I smell exhaust fumes from cars and perfumy vapors from clothes dryers.

Most people would enjoy the wafting scents from the clothes
dryers but I don't because I know those "spring fresh"
scents are from:

--Benzyl acetate
--Ethyl Acetate
--Chloroform
--Pentane
--Camphor
--Alph-terpineol

... and that these chemicals, when built up in the body, can
cause:

--Central nervous system disorders
--Headaches
--Nausea
--Vomiting
--Dizziness
--Blood pressure reduction
--Irritation to skin, mucus membranes and respiratory tract

All this for soft scented clothes?

There are natural solutions to soften fabric, here are two of
them:

--Add a quarter cup of baking soda to wash cycle

--Add a quarter cup of white vinegar to rinse cycle

To reduce static cling you can bunch up a piece of tin foil and
put in your dryer.

And my favorite tip is to make our own fabric softener sheet
with essential oils - see this tip below!

===================================================
2. Essential Oil Tip: Make Your Own Laundry Sheets
===================================================

I have my essential oil bottles in just about every room in my
house. The laundry room is where I use my oils frequently.

For my laundry I make my own Natural Fabric Softener Sheets and
here is a video on how to do that:

http://snipurl.com/naturaldryersheets

distributor or go to: http://tinyurl.com/aenfp

====================================
3. Success Tip: No Clean Laundry
=====================================

"I believe you should live each day as if it is your last,
which is why I don't have any clean laundry, because, come on
who wants to wash clothes on the last day of their life?"

~Don't know who said this - but it's funny!

==========================================
4. Recipe of the Week: Organic Sheet Cake
===========================================

This is a delish recipe with mostly organic ingredients
- but beware - it does have sugar (although organic)!

It falls into the category of what I am now calling a
"Slap My Hand" recipe!

*************************

Organic Chocolate Sheet Cake with Butter Cream Glaze

1 stick butter
2 heaping tablespoons organic cocoa
1/2 cup boiling water

1 cup whole wheat pastry flour
1 cup organic cane sugar
pinch salt
1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
1 egg beaten
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:

--In saucepan melt butter
--Add cocoa to melted butter and mix well
--Add boiling water, allow mixture to boil for 30 seconds, then
turn off heat.
--Combine flour, sugar and salt
--Pour cocoa mixture over flour mixture
--Mix gently and let cool

--Combine yogurt, egg, baking soda and vanilla
--Stir mixture into butter/chocolate mixture
--Pour into greased 9 inch cake pan and bake at 350-degrees for
25-30 minutes.

Pour glaze (below) over cake while warm

Chocolate Butter Cream Glaze

3 1/2 oz organic German Sweet Chocolate, chopped
2 - 3 Tbsp Coffee or water
3 Tbsp Butter

--Melt the chocolate with the coffee or the water until smooth
--Remove from the heat and stir in the butter
--Pour on top of the chocolate cake using a metal spatula (best
to first moisten metal with hot water and then dry for easy
spreading)

You can sprinkle toasted slivered almonds on top too!

=========================================
5. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

Humor from George Carlin

"Commercials show you how detergents take out bloodstains.

I think if you've got a T-shirt with bloodstains all over it,
maybe your laundry isn't your biggest problem."

========================================
1. Alkalinizing Tip May Surprise You
========================================

When I worked as a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit
we had several patients on ventilators (machines that
breathed for them).

As nurses we had to detect through bloodwork when
these patients were in acidosis (too much acid in
the blood, not enough alkalinity).

Acidosis is not a good thing.

If they were "acidotic" (that is the medical
term for too much acid in the blood) then the
physician would order the Respiratory Therapist
to adjust the machine to give more oxygen and
deeper breaths.

This would put the patient immediately into a
more alkaline state.

The quickest way for us to alkalinize our body
is to breathe!

Breathing several deep breaths at regular intervals
immediately helps to alkalinize our bodies.

Acid and alkaline states describe the pH of
the blood/body and have much to do with the
state of our health.

It is preferable to be in a more alkaline state
for many reasons:

--Prevents breakdown of body and tissues
--Prevents degenerative disease
--Prevents overgrowth of undesired micro-organisms
(such as candida/yeast)
--Helps body heal faster
--Helps regeneration of tissue
--Helps body restore and correct itself

This is not to say nutrition is not a huge
factor in alkalinizing the body, because it is.

The best way to maintain an alkaline state is by
what you put in your body. Fruits and vegetables
are the best way to alkalinize and stay alkaline.

Maintaining and sustaining a level of alkalinity
is ideal for our health.

Adequate breathing (ventilation - getting the right
amount of oxygen and 'blowing off' the necessary
carbon dioxide) AND nutrition are key.

Here is a quick nutritional tip for instant
alkalinization:

-- Munch on a sprig of celery. Celery is an instant
neutralizer of acid.

My favorite nutritional product to alkalinize quickly is
Young Living's Alkalime.

It is fabulous! Try it at night before you go to sleep
and experience one of the best night's sleep you've had!
(Being alkaline also helps us rest better!)

===========================
2.Drinking Safe Lemon Water
===========================

A classic way to alkalinize the body is to drink
lemon water.

Well "no more lemons in water!" is the cry among
media now after a new report on the disgusting
micro-organisms that are hanging out on lemons
(such as fecal bacteria).

Watch this video: http://snipurl.com/no_more_lemons
(aol users may have to copy and paste rather than click)

Not to worry!

We have a safe alternative that is even better for us!

Here is a quick video on making our own lemon water with
essential oils

===========================================
3. Essential Oil Tip: Key to Effective Use
===========================================

This tip is not to be underestimated.

Essential oils to do their best work in
an alkaline environment.

To get the best the oils can offer, we need
to be in an alkaline state.

Those of us who have trained with Gary Young over
the years have heard this from him consistently.

He speaks of how when faced with an acid condition,
the essential oils will sacrifice themselves to the
acid - to balance it out. In doing so their energy and
life force goes to that instead of fully offering
their highest ability.

==================================
4. Success Tip: Dale Carnegie
==================================

"When fate hands you a lemon, make lemonade."

~ Dale Carnegie

===================================================
5. Recipe of the Week: Apple Salad with Lemon Juice
===================================================

Apple Salad

3 apples
2 tbsp. lemon juice
3/4 c. celery
1/2 c. raisins
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. pecans (optional)

Blend 1/2 cup mayonnaise and 1/4 cup sour cream.
Toss lightly until apples are coated.
Serve on lettuce leaf.

You can substitute:
--Lemon essential oil(one drop) for lemon juice
--Plain yogurt or plain kefir for mayo and sour cream

A nice finishing touch is a splash of Ningxia Red!
(Ningxia Red is Young Living's high antioxidant juice)

=========================================
6. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

A woman went to a Florida lemon grove to apply
for a job, but the foreman thought she seemed
way too qualified for the position.

"Do you even have any actual experience picking lemons?"
he asked.

"Well, I think I do." she replied. "I've been divorced
three times."

=========================
1. Love is in the Air
=========================

Even if you don't have a romantic life going on,
you can still enjoy Valentines Day.

If you haven't seen Cupid in years there are
certainly other forms of love to celebrate!

I read somewhere recently that Valentines
Day can make more unhappy people than happy.
Maybe because most folks have a tendency to
idealize love? Who knows????

No sense of jumping into the head and trying to
figure it out .. let's stay in the heart and enjoy the day!

Love is so powerful. Did you see the Grammy's?
The Beatles song "All You Need is Love" won two grammys!

Below is a link so you can watch the Beatles
sing this song. Join the million and a half
viewers who have already watched this on You Tube.
I watched it and cried - I'm such a sucker.

But hey! Let me get to the point here!

"Love is in the Air" is about diffusing essential oils
and creating a loving environment.

Those of us who "love" our oils (many of you reading this!
especially us Young Living folk) know that "love" is what
our oils are all about!

These divine aspects of nature directly from the plant kingdom
exude such incredible healing powers that can uplift, heal,
balance, clean, shift, cure, and love.

Diffusing essential oils:

--Oxygenate your environment
--Gets rid of bad viruses, bacteria, fungus, molds
--Clears out stale air
--Elevate your mood
--Clear your thinking
--Help you breathe better
--Help you relax

and much more.

Here is a quick minute and a half video on how to
diffuse your essential oil. Make sure you watch it
to the end because there is a very special secret
revealed to "easy and effective diffusing"!

Oh, and don't forget to watch the 11 seconds of my cutie Prin
wishing you Happy Valentines Day on that same page!

=========================
2. Be Your Own Valentine
=========================

Being our own Valentine is about
"self-love" and "self-care" - whether
you've got someone special or not.

Since we're talking about essential oils,
there is no better way to take care of yourself
than to have essential oils be part of your every
day life.

They can:

--heal your ails

--make you feel good

--help you relax

--uplift your mood

--slow down aging

--get rid of toxins

--help you sleep better

--reduce allergies

--balance belly problems

and so much more!

Use essential oils to "Pamper Your
Body and Soul"!

==========================================
2. Essential Oil Tip: Powerfully Romantic
==========================================

"Sensation" is an excellent blend of oils that is
great for Valentines Day.

It is a wonderfully fragrant, powerfully romantic blend that is
extremely uplifting and refreshing.

It was formulated to enhance the enjoyment of special moments.

This blend consists of these three oils:

--Rosewood
--Ylang ylang
--Jasmine

It's great to diffuse, use in massage, or wear as a scent!

3. Success Tip: Love
======================

Without love, the rich and poor live in the same house.

~Author Unknown

===============================================
4.Recipe of the Week: Valentine Vegan Love Buns
===============================================

These are really cupcakes, but its fun calling them "Love Buns".

Be aware - vegan does NOT mean "no sugar". This recipe has
sweet in it but it is healthier than most - its rice syrup.

Vegan means no eggs, butter and milk.

Ingredients

--1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar - the smell bakes off
--1 1/2 cups of plain soymilk - or chocolate or vanilla
--2 3/4 cups flour
--2 teaspoons baking powder
--1/2 teaspoon baking soda
--1/2 teaspoon salt
--1 cup rice syrup
--1/2 cup oil (walnut, macadamia oils are especially good!)
--1 teaspoon vanilla extract (or orange essential oil!)

--Preheat the oven to 350ºF.
--Prepare your muffin tray and set aside

--Put the cider vinegar into a small bowl and add the soymilk.
--Stir this well and then put to one side.
--The mixture will now curdle and this is what should be
happening.
--Stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder & soda and salt.
--If you want chocolate cupcakes, add cocoa (about 1/2 cup) to
this stage.
--In the bowl containing the vinegar and soymilk, stir in the oil
and vanilla extract. Mix together.
--Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and beat
together (by hand or with an electric hand-held mixer).
--Fill the muffin pan.
--Usually fill each paper cupcake holder with about 1/4 cup of
batter.
--If you prefer larger cupcakes, then add a half a cup but make
sure the muffin pan is larger and the cupcake holders are bigger.
--Bake for 20 - 25 minutes.

Here is a good icing to use with these Love Buns! It does use
sugar so be aware! Or - you could skip the icing!

1 cup butter (no substitutes), softened
8 cups confectioners' sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup orange juice
1 drop of orange essential oil

In a mixing bowl cream butter. Beat in the sugar and vanilla.
Add juice and drop of oil until desired consistency.

Grate a beet to make it a touch of red for
Valentines Day!

Food As A Valentine Greeting ~

Cabbage always has a heart;
Green beans string along.
You're such a Tomato,
Will you Peas to me belong?

You've been the Apple of my eye,
You know how much I care;
So Lettuce get together,
We'd make a perfect Pear.

Now, something's sure to Turnip,
To prove you can't be Beet;
So, if you Carrot all for me
Let's let our tulips meet.

Don't Squash my hopes and dreams now,
Bee my Honey, dear;
Or tears will fill Potato's eyes,
While Sweet Corn lends an ear.

I'll Cauliflower shop and say
Your dreams are Parsley mine.
I'll work and share my Celery,
So be my Valentine.

=======================================
1. Healing Shingles with Essential Oils
=======================================

One of my famous personal essential oil testimonies is
how I got rid of my shingles using ravensara essential oil.

Shingles, aka Herpes Zoster, is a severe and short lived
viral infection caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox.

It's an infection of the nervous system that affects certain
areas of the skin.

Shingles originates from having chicken pox as a child.

During a childhood bout of chicken pox, not all of the viral
organisms are destroyed. They hang out and stay quiet -
"dormant" - in the nerves in the skin for many years.

When there is severe emotional stress, severe illness,
or things that severely affect the immune system, these
"dormant" critters wake up and get active again, and
cause an infection.

The pain is severe and sometimes long lived, and the
medical approach is anti-viral medications, steroids,
pain meds, and antibiotics for potential skin infection
- and not everyone wants to take this approach
(although if the outbreak is near the eyes you should
definitely seek medical attention!)
So once again we say Thank God for the oils!

I had a shingles outbreak a few years ago when my mother, who
had been diagnosed with kidney cancer, had surgery
to have her kidney removed.

I was so stressed out that I wasn't paying attention
to my body. It's interesting how that happens, isn't it?

Our bodies have to tell us the degree of how much
stress we are under if we're not paying attention.

When I found out I had shingles I ran to my two
favorite resource books - the Essential Desk
Reference and The Alternative Medicine Definitive
Guide by the Burton Goldberg Group.

Both of these books mentioned ravensara - which I
had in my oil collection and loved for sinus issues.

I immediately took some internally (I had taken ravensara
internally before for bronchitis so I was comfortable
taking it internally again).

I put 7 drops in an empty gel cap and I took one capsule
in the morning and one at night. Within one day my pain and
symptoms went away.

I decided to keep myself on this regime for 21 days because
that is the normal life span of a virus. My symptoms stayed
away for the whole time except for one day I did forget
to take my dose.

I said to myself "oh, I probably don't have shingles - I don't
have symptoms so I'll stop taking the capsules." Well, within
one day the symptoms came back, so I resumed to completion.

Now not everyone will feel comfortable taking oils internally, so
here are ways you can use essential oils topically for the
discomfort of shingles:

Blend together:

-- 10 drops sandalwood
-- 5 drops blue cypress
-- 4 drops peppermint
-- 2 drops ravensara

Dilute 50:50 with massage oil and apply 6 - 10 drops on the
affected area, back of neck, and down the spine 1 - 3 times
daily. (from Essential Desk Reference)

-----

Aromatherapy expert, and author of "Medical Aromatherapy"
Dr. Kurt Schnaubelt, says "Our greatest success in the treatment
of shingles is by applying a blend of 50% ravensara and 50%
calophyllum inophyllum (like St. John's Wort
http://snipurl.com/tamanu_oil ).
Drastic improvements and complete remissions occur within seven
days."

-----

A case study was done of six hospice patients with shingles.
It was found that three essential oils combined together and
placed in distilled water and used as a spritz improved the
symptoms of the shingles.

The three oils used were:

--ravensara
--bergamot
--niaouli

This study was run by aromatherapist Noel Gilligan. Mr Gilligan
reported that after 48 hours:

--there was a significant reduction in the pain from the shingles
--scabbing and healing of the pustules took place and in one
instance there was a disappearance of the pustules

2. Essential Oil Tip: My Ravensara Capsules
===========================================

When I had my shingles, this is what I did.

I made Ravensara capsules and I took them twice a day.

I put 7 drops of ravensara in an empty gel cap and
took one in the morning and one at night. I did this
for 21 days.

This isn't for everyone - but it worked for me.
Here is a video showing you what I did
http://snipurl.com/ravensaraforshingles

distributor or go to: http://tinyurl.com/aenfp

3. Success Tip: Nerves
========================

"Nerves provide me with energy. They work for me.
It's when I don't have them, when I feel at ease,
that I get worried."

~Mike Nichols

4. Recipe of the Week: Home Made Anti-Viral Tea
================================================

Ginger is delicious and a great natural anti-viral food.

It's good for so many things - like tummy aches
or the flu and a great thing to sip on when you
have a viral outbreak in the body like shingles!

What you need to make your tea:

--Fresh grated ginger from ginger root or ginger essential oil
--Cup of hot water

optional: agave / lemon slice / lemon oil

Make tea with oil:
--one drop of ginger in a cup of hot water
--add one drop of lemon and agave to taste

Make tea with fresh ingredients:
--grate fresh ginger and place in cup of hot water
--steep a few minutes
--strain or leave in cup
--add slice of lemon and agave to taste

5. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

Bubba Had Shingles

Those who spend much time in a doctor's office
should appreciate this!

Doesn't it seem more and more that physicians
are running their practices like an assembly line?

Here's what happened to Bubba:

Bubba walked into a doctor's office and the receptionist
asked him what he had. Bubba said: "Shingles."

So she wrote down his name, address, medical insurance
number and told him to have a seat.

Fifteen minutes later a nurse's aide came out and asked Bubba
what he had.

Bubba said, "Shingles." So she wrote down his height, weight, a
complete medical history and told Bubba to wait in the examining
room.

A half hour later a nurse came in and asked Bubba what he had.

Bubba said, "Shingles." So the nurse gave Bubba a blood test, a
blood pressure test, an electrocardiogram, and told Bubba to take
off all his clothes and wait for the doctor.

An hour later the doctor came in and found Bubba sitting
patiently in the nude and asked Bubba what he had. Bubba said,
"Shingles." The doctor asked, "Where?"

Bubba said, "Outside on the truck. Where do you want me to
unload 'em??"
