Six Ways to Improve Your Vision Naturally




Is it possible for us to improve our vision on our own, naturally?


Some say "No way! Vision loss comes with aging, and there ain't nothing you can do about it."

Not so! There is plenty we can do!

Here are Six Simple Solutions for Self Vision Care: (the secret is: consistency!)


  1. Boost Your Eye Chi (sometimes called Palming)

    This is one of my favorite most comforting things to do. It feels great, relaxes and energizes the eyes, and can even clear the vision. It's important to remember that eye sockets are charkas (energy centers) and its a good way to energize the brain!

    --Rub hands together
    --Cup each hand over each eye
    --Close eyes
    --Hold for a few minutes


  2. Stay well hydrated

    Dry eye can be a problem as people age.

    Hydration (drinking enough water) is very important for eye health, and may be one of the contributing factors to dry eye.

    Drink water equivalent to (at least) your body weight in ounces of every day.


  3. Ingest good fats and essential fatty acids.

    Good healthy fatty oils are excellent for eye health and dry eye.

    Flax seed oil is recognized by conventional medicine and science as something that can benefit the aging eye and research is there to support it.

    Fish oils, avocado, even good clean organic dairy can also be helpful.


  4. Eye Exercises

    Some eye problems can be a result of eye muscles straining to see. When the muscles are exercised and strengthened straining won't occur. This can protect the eye.

    Exercise: When reading intently or on the computer look away every 30 minutes to across the room where you can read large print or a headline of a newspaper. Then look at smaller print, then even smaller print. Then go back to your reading.



  5. Protect your eyes in the bright sunlight.

    UV protected enhanced sunglasses should be worn when you are in very bright sunlight for an extended length of time.

    However, you should allow your eyes exposure to natural sunlight without sunglasses for at least a short time everyday.


  6. Vitamin Rich Whole Foods and Nutritional Supplementation

    The top nutrients to promote excellent eye health are the following:

    --carotenoids (supplying zeanthin and lutein)
    --antioxidants
    --Vitamin A

    Foods can supply much of this if you are eating a highly enriched whole foods well balanced diet - but not everyone does.

    Here is a list of foods:


    --green, leafy vegetables like spinach, kale, collards
    --yellow and orange foods and fruits like carrots, sweet potatoes
    --wolfberry and other berries--colorful foods with good fat: avocado, salmon


    One of the best and easiest "nutrient infusions" that I've come across for good eye health (and much more!) is the Ningxia Red juice from Young Living. It's delicious, easy to incorporate in everyday life, and has many health giving properties - and so much more valuable than the money it costs!

Do You Feel Shaky if You Don't Eat?

How many times have you missed a meal, or eaten erratically, and ended up feeling shaky with a spacey mind?

This is common among busy people who do not live a balanced lifestyle- who skip mealsor eat on the run ( usually nutritionally deficient foods ).

Thisfeeling can be mistaken for stress and anxiety - which is actually secondary tothe primary underlying issue of hypoglyemia, or low blood sugar.

When our blood sugar drops a whole host of issues can develop and many times these issues are thought to be the real problem like:

--anxiety attacks

--extreme fatigue

--mentaland physical lethargy

--depression

--weakness and lack of energy

Besides not eating regular meals, blood sugar drops can also come from eating foodsthat are high in sugar - known as foods that have a 'high glycemic index'.

It is a common myth that foods that are high in sugar are good for low blood sugar.

Yes,the blood sugar is raised when eating high glycemic foods, but then within about 30 minutes there can be a large drop in blood sugar, usually lower than the original bloodsugar level before eating (or drinking) the sweet substance.

The best way to combat blood sugar drops is to eat frequent meals of foods that have low glycemic indexes and carbohydrates that are complex carbs (i.e. - veggies) and not simple carbs (i.e. - pastries).

Hereare some recommendations from the Universityof Sydney's official Website of the Glycemic Index:
  • Use breakfast cereals based on oats, barley and bran
  • Use breads with wholegrains, stone-ground flour, sour dough
  • Reduce the amount of potatoes you eat
  • Enjoy all other types of fruit and vegetables
  • Use Basmati or Doongara rice
  • Enjoy pasta, noodles, quinoa (whole wheat preferable)
  • Eat plenty of salad vegetables with a vinaigrette dressing

Chia Seeds

When you signed up for my newsletter you probably remember that I asked you to take just one minute and let me know what your biggest challenges are with your health and your lifestyle.

Across the board - the two major complaints that people write in with are:

--wanting to lose weight

--needing more energy

Well,I know this might sound far fetched but I have come across one of the most amazing Super Foods that can help with both of those problems - the simple " Chia Seed".

I've known about Chia for a few years, but never really knew how amazing these seeds were until I studied this past year at the School of Natural Cooking and Integrative Health with Christina Pirello.

Christina and her husband Robert raved about the benefits of Chia so I just had to try them!

I honestly was so surprised at how I felt. I had much more stamina throughout the day when I took them in a beverage early in the morning.

Chia seeds were a main component of the Aztec and Mayan diets. They give tremendous energy and stamina. They also help you lose weight because they fill you up and cleanse your intestinal tract.

And, they are an awesome source of Omega-3 fatty acid and better than flax in that they can be stored for long periods of time without becoming rancid.

They are easy to ingest and digest, rather tasteless, and can be used in so many different ways.

I LOVE putting Chia seeds in my Ningxia Red juice in the morning!

This recipe is from Christina Pirello's website (check out her site and watch the video on her home page - I created and produced that video and gave it to her as a gift when I graduated! I'll be teaching how to make videos like that in my upcoming class!):


Veggie Stir Fry with Chia

I love this as the main course to create an easy and nutritious dinner in a hurry.

2 teaspoons avocado oil
1 tablespoon fresh ginger root, finely minced
3 cloves fresh garlic, finely minced
Sea salt
1 jalapeno pepper, finely minced (keep the seeds and stems for more heat)
1 small red onion, thin half moon slices
1 carrot, fine matchstick pieces
1 red bell pepper, roasted, peeled, thinly sliced into ribbons
3 ounces fresh shiitake mushrooms, thinly sliced
4 ounces extra firm tofu, cubed
5-6 baby bok choy, split lengthwise, rinsed well
Shoyu
Brown rice vinegar
1 tablespoon chia seeds
3 cups cooked brown basmati rice

Place avocado oil in a wok or large skillet over medium heat. Sauté ginger and garlic with a pinch of salt for 30 seconds. Stir in jalapeno, onion and a pinch of salt and sauté until onion is translucent, about 2 minutes. Add carrot, a pinch of salt and sauté for 2 minutes. Stir in peppers and shiitake, a pinch of salt and sauté for 2 minutes. Stir in tofu and sauté for 2 minutes. Add baby bok choy; season to taste with shoyu, cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 2-3 minutes, until the bok choy just wilts. Do not overcook the veggies in this dish. Stir in chia seeds and spoon over brown rice to serve. Makes 3-4 servings.

Natural Health - Twinkle Toes - Tips For Pretty Feet

Tips for improving the appearance of our feet go way beyond the painted toenail.

Paying attention to the skin on the top and bottom of our feet is important for looks and health. Even exercising the feet can have an affect on their appearance. If a foot is strong and has muscles that contract and relax easily, it actually looks much better in a sexy sandal than a tight or swollen foot.




Feet also reflect the body. Some people say that points on the feet correlate with all of the organs and structures throughout the body. Thus, one can access the entire body through the feet. Foot reflexology is an example of a therapeutic modality based on this theory. Caring for the feet is also a way to care for the entire body.

Here are some tips to have healthy, happy feet:

  • Give Your Feet a Facial (would that be a Footcial?)

    The skin on top of the feet can be exfoliated and moisturized just like the skin on your face. A glow and good feeling can result. See recipes below for rubs and scrubs for your feet.



  • Soak Your Feet for Softness and Invigoration



    1 cup lemon juice, Cinnamon or other essential oil or spice 2 tablespoons of olive oil, l¼ cup of milk; Water (amount does not matter)

    Mix all the ingredients in a tub and soak your feet in it for awhile. Cinnamon can be replaced with any spice, perfume or flower petals. Peppermint is another popular favorite. Feet love peppermint!



    This soak will leave your skin refreshed and fragrant. After this wash your feet with a mild soap. Follow this foot care regimen for a few weeks and the skin on your feet will be silky and smooth.

  • Exercise Your Feet

    Ankle Stretch: Sit with your legs stretched out in front of you. Point your toes down as if depressing a pedal (plantar flexion) and then stretch your toes toward your face (dorsi flexion) as far as is comfortable. Hold each stretch for a few seconds, then relax and repeat 10 times.


    Foot Rollers are great to keep in an area where you spend a lot of time sitting - on the floor underneath your office chair or favorite spot on the couch. Foot Rollers work by vigorously rubbing the roller with the feet over the soles of the feet.


    Foot Rollers can:


    • Massage pressure points on the bottom of each foot and stimulate circulation

    • Revive sore arches, relieve joint and muscle fatigue
