1. Slenderize Like the Celebrities
====================================
Have you checked out Madonna's arms, Suzanne Somers' thighs, and Hilary Swank's whole body? Would you like to be wearing those? What woman wouldn't?

Although much work goes into toning those gorgeous bodies, one of the best ways to nutritionally lay the foundation for toned bodies is by taking flax seed oil. Celebrity's secrets to staying fit come directly from their personal trainers and chefs. Celebrity trainer Grant Roberts swears by the use of flax seed oil to decrease the percentage of body fat and help build muscle. Grant shares in an interview how he had Hilary Swank use flax seed oil along with her work outs to get her body in shape for Million Dollar Baby. (See the interview here: Interview with Grant Roberts)

The benefits of flax seed oil go way beyond its ability to naturally burn fat through thermogenesis. Here are some other benefits of taking flax seed oil:

--helps to lower bad cholesterol
--helps to lower blood triglyerides
--helps to lower blood pressure
--helps to heal intestinal lining
--provides great fiber
--has role in preventing breast cancer
--fights diabetes
--boosts immune functioning
--fights "the blues"

The most recognized authority on Flax Seed Oil is Udo Erasmus, author of the book "Fats that Heal, Fats that Kill". "Home Spa Lady", Marilee, is personally interviewing Udo in her teleseminar series "Green Tea with Marilee" and YOU can get aseat on that live call! To find out how you can personally join Marilee and Udo Erasmus click here. And if the date doesn't work for you register to join anyway - you will have the professionally recorded disc mailed directly to you.

Which flax oil to buy? Like the essential oils, the quality of flax oils can vary - depending on many factors. You want the highest quality, and Udo's Choice from Flora is the highest quality flax oil on the market today. Udo's Choice is Marilee's Choice. Fed up with everyone focusing on losing pounds and just want to embrace your larger body? Enjoy this "Fat Rant" video: http://tinyurl.com/ysszyo

2. Flax Seed: The Miracle Plant
================================
Article Source:Ezine Articles / Elizabeth Hutchings

Flax is lovely blue flowered crop that grows rampant in the prairies and is often mistaken as a wild flower. This delicate plant produces tiny seeds that offer a wide variety of terrific health benefits. This health benefits include:

--Soluble fibers which reduce cholesterol level and therefore lower the risk of heart disease
--Alpha linolenic acid and omega-3 fatty acid to help reduce blood thickness reducing the chance of blood clots
--Phytoestrogens which are similar to human estrogen and can be helpful for women during their hormonal cycle or during menopause
--Flax seed has reduced both the number and size of cancerous tumors in both breast and prostate cancer. Flax may reduce the incidence and size of tumors. One small study by Lilian Thompson, a professor of nutritional sciences at the University of Toronto, showed that the rate of tumor growth in mammary cancer patients was reduced when they consumed 25 grams of flax per day.

Flax seed can easily be added into a normal diet. It can be added to cereals, breads, muffins, pancakes, and cookies. Additionally, it can be mixed well into fluids like juices, smoothies and applesauce. As well as meat dishes and as a salad or sandwich topper, like mayonnaise or mustard. Flax seed can be used whole, ground, or in oil forms. Flax seed can be ground in a coffee grinder, pepper grinders, or a flax seed grinder which can easily be bought online.

Whole flax seed offers fiber which is great for the digestive system and for reducing cholesterol. Grinding flax seed allows the digestive tract to absorb the other available nutrients like omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and lignans.

It is suggested that a combination of both whole and ground flaxseed be incorporated into the normal daily diet to get the best health benefits available from flax seed. Flax seed must be stored properly in all forms. It is extremely sensitive to heat and sunlight. Exposure to either will cause the flax seed to quickly spoil. Store all flax seed in an air tight container in a cool place.

View our recommended source for 100% organic Flax Seed. www.flaxseedpro.com is a great site for all of your flaxseed needs. There is also a section of the site dedicated to FlaxSeed Information with many articles and postings by customers.

3. Essential Oil Tip: Decrease Appetite
=========================================
Peppermint oil is known to reduce appetite. Simply inhale the oil when hungry. If you are using a therapeutic grade oil you can ingest peppermint oil. It is pleasant to put a 2-3 drops in an 8 ounce glass of water and drink it. It is also helpful for digestive upset.

Order your essential oils from your Young Livingdistributor or by going to Young Living's Website

6. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================
My Thighs Were Stolen

My thighs were stolen from me during the night a few years ago. It was just that quick. I went to sleep in my body and woke up with someone else's thighs. The new ones had the texture of cooked oatmeal. Who would have done such a cruel thing to legs that had been mine for years? Whose thighs were these and what happened to mine?

Hurt and angry, I resigned myself to living out my life in jeans and Sheer Energy pantyhose. Then, just when my guard was down, the thieves struck again. My butt was next. I knew it was the same gang, because they took pains to match my new rear end to the thighs they stuck me with earlier. I couldn't believe that my new butt was attached at least three inches lower than my original. Now, my rear complemented my legs, lump for lump. Frantic, I prayed that long skirts would stay in fashion.

It was two years ago when I realized my arms had been switched. One morning I was fixing my hair and I watched horrified but fascinated as the flesh of my upper arms swung to and fro with the motion of the hair brush. This was really getting scary. My body was being replaced one section at a time. How clever and fiendish. Age? Age had nothing to do with it. Age is supposed to creep up, unnoticed, something like maturity. NO, I was being attacked repeatedly and without warning.

In despair, I gave up my T-shirts. What could they do to me next? My poor neck suddenly disappeared faster than the Thanksgiving turkey it now resembled. That's why I decided to tell my story. I can't take on the medical profession by myself. Women of the world, WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE! That really isn't plastic that those surgeons are using. You KNOW where they are getting those replacement parts, don't you? The next time you suspect someone has had a face "lifted," look again. Was it lifted from you? I think I finally found my thighs -- and I hope that Cindy Crawford paid a really good price for them! This is not a hoax! This is happening to women in every town every night!

=============================================
1. I Don't Want to Wear YOUR Perfume
=============================================

It's bad enough when Aunt Tillie wears that awful perfume - but then, when you get your hug from Aunt Tillie, your day can literally be ruined because you end up wearing that smell as well.

Perfumes are scents that are meant to last a long time. The chemical fixatives help the scent cling to your body and clothes - and even transfer from one person to another.

Personally, I have difficulty being around any artificial scent because of the petro chemicals that make up the scent.

Most of these chemicals are harmful to your health.

I have to admit that I really get nuts when people hug me (many people hug in my professional circles) and they are wearing perfume.

I am especially aghast (okay, I guess this article is turning into a rant) at people who have challenging health problems or who have been diagnosed with a disease and they still wear perfume.

And get this. . .they put perfume on their neck, chest, wrists, insides of their arms - right where there are arteries (blood vessels carrying fresh oxygenated blood) close to the skin and where lymph nodes (part of the system that carries toxins out of the body - many cancers can involve lymph) are gathered.

Even if the perfume is said to have essential oils in them it doesn't mean they are okay. When the smell lingers - there are petro chemicals present.

Pure therapeutic grade essential oils are volatile - they will evaporate and dissipate after they enter the environment and complete their work at creating balance.

The smell and physical properties only hang out for a short time - and then go away (but what's lovely is that the energy still remains!).

I remember when I used to take Mom for her cancer treatments and we used to sit in the waiting room. There were so many female patients there wearing perfume.

I often thought that "Keeping petro chemicals off the body" should be on the top of the list of what health care professionals direct patients to do for themselves as they work on healing their disease.

The body, the liver, and the immune system have enough work to doin fighting disease and trying to get back into balance without having to metabolize more chemicals from perfume.

Essential oils on the other hand work to clean the body from its petro chemical exposure - ONLY if they are therapeutic grade oils.

When I teach about essential oils I insist that people fully understand the difference between a therapeutic grade oil and a perfume grade oil.

One surefire way to tell if an essential oil is therapeutic grade is by noting the AFNOR Standard. (Association French Normalization Organization Regulation).

But a real easy way to know (if it is a single oil and not a blend) is that many therapeutic oils are such a high quality that they are safe enough to be taken internally and you will find "Supplemental Facts" on the label. The FDA oversees this and they supervise the "supplemental facts label" through their Generally Regarded As Safe (GRAS) list.

There are other ways to smell good - sweet, soft, sexy - whatever way you want to smell - without loading yourself with perfume and making yourself more toxic. And that is with the use of therapeutic essential oils.

When you wear therapeutic essential oils and you hug someone - you are not slathering them with chemicals - you are enhancing thier state of health for that moment. What a nice thing to do.

=========================
2. The Smell Map
=======================

Some people are taking this smell thing really seriously - seriously enough to devote a website to "Smells that permeate New York City's subway stations".

It's a good subway map, but you need a strong stomach just to read the descriptive terms of the scents in these stations:

gawker.com/maps/smell/

Give it some time to load.

=======================================
3.Sniffing - The Best Way to Smell
====================================

When we sniff we are not just pulling odors up the nose - we are also sending electrical signals out from the nose to the brain.

"Sniffing helps us to smell better," says Minghong Ma, a University of Pennsylvania neuroscientist,

======================
4.The Electric Nose
======================

Smell can help detect disease and early warning signs of different illness.

Its not done through a human nose however - it's done through a replicated human nose and olfactory system using tiny bioelectronic sensors.

To read more: http://tinyurl.com/2xaa2w

There are however, real noses that can smell disease such as cancer - and those noses belong to dogs.

Read about the study where dogs sniff out cancer: http://tinyurl.com/24h2dz

================================================
5. Essential Oil Tip: Replace Your Perfume
================================================

Joy essential oil blend is known to uplift. White Angelica essential oil blend is known to protect.

Ladies love to wear these two scents as replacements for their perfumes. I have even known a few women who wore the real perfume Joy replace it with Young Living Joy.

These are Young Living blends. All Young Living Essential Oils are therapeutic grade oils.

Order your essential oils from your Young Living distributor or by going to Young Living's Website

===================================
3. Success Tip: Smell Your Success
===================================

Practice imagery.

Imagine yourself living your goal today. Hold your desired outcome firmly in your mind.

See, smell, touch and hear aspects of your goal. Each morning upon rising, review your goal. Repeat the process at night.

Use essential oils as you practice your imagery. This can help to anchor the information into the subconscious mind and energetically attract to your goal to you - as described in "The Secret", a new film available at http://www.thesecret.tv

Wear the oils blends of Abundance or Highest Potential while watching The Secret and practicing your imagery.

==================================================
5.Recipe of the Week: Good Smelling Cookies Baking
==================================================

There's nothing better than the smell of Chocolate Chip cookies baking.

Here's a healthier-than-most chocolate chip cookie recipe. You can limit the sugar you use here.

Notice there are whole grain flours, real butter, heart healthy walnuts, and Ghirardelli chocolate chips that are 60% cacao.

1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup oat flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup nonfat milk
5 oz. Ghirardelli dark chocolate chips

--Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
--In a medium bowl, stir together flours, baking powder, salt,nutmeg and cinnamon.

6. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

For Women ~ When Nature Calls....

When you have to visit a public bathroom, you usually find a line of women, so you smile politely and take your place.

Once it's your turn, you check for feet under the stall doors.

Every stall is occupied. Finally, a door opens and you dash in, nearly knocking down the woman leaving the stall.

You get in to find the door won't latch. It doesn't matter. The dispenser for the modern "seat covers" (invented by someone's mom, no doubt) is handy, but empty.

You would hang your purse on the door hook, if there were one, but there isn't - - so you carefully, but quickly, drape it around your neck, (Mom would turn over in her grave if you put it on the FLOOR!).

You yank down your pants, and assume "The Stance." In this position your aging,toneless thigh muscles begin to shake.

You'd love to sit down, but you certainly hadn't taken time to wipe the seat or lay toilet paper on it, so you hold "The Stance."

To take your mind off your trembling thighs, you reach for what you discover to be the EMPTY toilet paper dispenser. In your mind, you can hear your mom's voice saying, "Honey, if you had tried to clean the seat, you would have KNOWN there was no toilet paper!" Your thighs shake more.

You remember the tiny tissue that you blew your nose on yesterday - the one that's still in your purse. That would have to do. You crumple it in the puffiest way possible. It is still smaller than your thumbnail.

Someone pushes open your stall door because the latch doesn't work. The door hits your purse, which is hanging around your neck in front of your chest, and you and your purse topple backward against the tank of the toilet.

"OCCUPIED!" you scream, as you reach for the door dropping your precious, tiny, crumpled tissue in a puddle on the floor, lose your footing altogether, and slide down directly on the toilet seat. It is wet of course.

You bolt up, knowing all too well that it's too late. Your bare bottom has made contact with every imaginable germ and life form on the uncovered seat because YOU never laid down toilet paper - not that there was any, even if you had taken time to try.

You know your mother would be utterly appalled if she knew, because, you're certain, her bare bottom never touched a public toilet seat because, frankly, dear, "You just don't KNOW what kind of diseases you could get."

By this time, the automatic sensor on the back of the toilet is so confused that it flushes, propelling a stream of water like a fire hose that somehow sucks everything down with such force that you grab onto the toilet paper dispenser for fear of being dragged in too. At that point, you give up.

You are soaked by the spewing water and the wet toilet seat. You're exhausted. You try to wipe with a gum wrapper you found in your pocket and then slink out inconspicuously to the sinks.

Now, you can't figure out how to operate the faucets with the automatic sensors, so you wipe your hands with spit and a dry paper towel and walk past the line of women still waiting. You are no longer able to smile politely to them.

A kind soul at the very end of the line points out a piece of toilet paper trailing from your shoe. (Where was that when you NEEDED it??)

You yank the paper from your shoe, plunk it into the woman's hand and tell her warmly, "Here, you just might need this." As you exit, you spot your hubby, who has long since entered, used and left the men's restroom.

Annoyed, he asks, "What took you so long, and why is your purse hanging around your neck?"

{This is dedicated to women everywhere who deal with a public restroom (REST??? - You've got to be kidding!!). It finally explains to the men what really does take us so long. It also answers their other commonly asked question about why women go to the restroom in pairs. It's so the other gal can hold the door, hang onto your purse and hand you Kleenex under the door.}

1. It Ain't Easy Being Green
==============================
What is "being green" anyway? Is it being vegetarian? A paperless tree-hugger? Living like Kermit the frog? Expressing life through your heart chakra? Announcing your Irish heritage?

Most people today who align with the "green movement" are supportive of environmental issues. Here are some (not so easy) ways you can start thinking about being green:
--Use glass instead of plastic. But if you must use plastic, use those that are made from plants (non-GMO corn and wheat)
--Drink water from biodegradable plastic (less harmful to you too)http://www.biotaspringwater.com/
--Reuse unwanted clothing http://www.swaporamarama.com/
--Use nontoxic products in your household (Thieves Household Cleaner from Young Living is fabulous!) (Your YL Distributor or Young Living's Website)
--Read your newspapers online
--Compost your doggie doo-doo and your doo-doo too! http://www.envirolet.com/

3. How to Find A Leprechaun
============================
The Leprechaun is an Irish fairy. He looks like a small, old man (about 2 feet tall) and is dressed like a shoemaker, with a cocked hat and a leather apron. According to legend, leprechauns are aloof and unfriendly, live alone, and pass the time making shoes. They also possess a hidden pot of gold. Treasure hunters can often track down a leprechaun by the sound of his shoemaker's hammer. If caught, he can be forced to reveal the whereabouts of his treasure, but the captor must keep their eyes on him every second. If the captor's eyes leave the leprechaun (and he often tricks them into looking away), he vanishes and all hopes of finding the treasure are lost. Here's a group in Mobile Alabama looking for a Leprechaun: http://tinyurl.com/jqfjl

4. Essential Oil Tip: Green Cleaning with Thieves
==================================================
Thieves was created based on research about four thieves who protected themselves with cloves, rosemary, lemon, cinnamon, and eucalyptus while robbing victims of the plague. The Thieves product line centers around the essential oil blend that has been studied at Weber State University and found to be 98.9% antimicrobial. The line also has the highly concentrated household cleaner that can be used on any surface. Order your Thieves Household Cleaner from your Young Living distributor or by going to Young Living's Website

1. Moola-la ~ The Power of Prosperous Thinking
================================================

Prosperous thinking can draw money into our lives.

Today it seems like everyone is talking about 'The Law of Attraction' thanks to the movie 'The Secret' which popularized this universal law, and thanks to Oprah who had not one, but two shows on this topic in one week.

The premise of 'The Secret' is that if we keep positive thoughts in our mind we can attract good things to us in accordance with a universal law called 'The Law of Attraction'.

How does this work? And how can it draw money into our lives?

First, I recommend that if you haven't seen the movie 'The Secret' you should rent or buy it (http://www.thesecret.tv). It defines and describes what this 'Law of Attraction' is and how it can work for you.

Simply put - what you think about you end up attracting to you.

An example of this is if you find yourself frequently thinking about not having enough money, then, according to this law, you will draw that reality to you - you will not have enough money. Have you ever heard that we create what we fear the most?

I remember hearing an expression once about 'worry' that made a great impression on me - 'Worrying is meditating on what you don't want to happen.'

When I learn something that I want to implement in my life, I always like to know HOW it works.

Here is my take on how it works, from an energetic perspective:

Our thoughts are what 'magnetizes' our energy field. Our energy field is a subtle part of our electrical anatomy - not unlike the electrical impulses that make our heart beat, our brain waves formations, and even the electrical charges in each and every cell found in electrolytes such as sodium and potassium.

Negative thoughts magnetize our fields with negative energy, and positive thoughts magnetize our field with positive energy.

This universal law 'The Law of Attraction' works in conjunction with another law, 'The Law of Similars' where what is harbored in our fields (and our body) will attract it's like and kind.

That's why negative people hang out with other negative people, and the same is true with positive people. Positive people naturally connect with other positive people (unless onehas a self-sabotaging issue going on which is often unconscious - then they can attract a negative person).

So how do we use what we know here to get the moola coming in?

Well, if you find yourself worrying about not having enough, and you really think your reality is that you don't have enough, then you just have to fake yourself out. Truly. That's how it works.

You picture in your mind having everything you want, and you make yourself feel the feelings of what it is like having (or doing) all that you want - even though a part of your mind is telling you that this is not true.

A good exercise is to create a 'Picture Dream Board'. Here'show:

--Cut out pictures from magazines and brochures of everything you would like to create in your life - even if, in your current reality, you cannot afford them.

--Look at these pictures and pretend that these things are yours.

--Feel the feelings of what it is like to own these things or to be doing these things.

--Act as if they are yours and you have them or are doing them.

Another expression you may have heard that explains this further is 'fake it til you make it'.

Here's another exercise:

--Take your paycheck and make a copy of it before you cash it.

--On the copy white out the amount and write in exactly what you would like this paycheck to be.

--Make a copy of that and keep it where you will see it often.

--You can do a similar thing with your bank statement.

Here is something you can do right now to get you started. It will take you about 60 seconds:

2. Cinnamon ~ More Valuable Than Gold
======================================

In the ancient world spices were the most valuable items of trade, some more valuable than gold.

Cinnamon had one of the highest values among the spices. It was prized by ancient nations and was considered a gift fit for monarchs.

There is much controversy as to why spices such as cinnamon were so highly valued. It is written that they were used to disguise the taste of the spoiled meat because there was no refrigeration.

I'm not a historian, but knowing what I do know about the power and efficacy of essential oils, I think I can surmise why the value of the spices/essential oils was so high.

It was not because they disguised the taste of the rotten and spoiled meats - it is that they prevented the meat from becoming rotten.

Essential oils, which include the spice oils like cinnamon, have the ability within them to ward off invasive pathogenic organisms like bacteria, viruses, and fungus that shouldn't be present. At the same time, they respect the microbial terrain that should exist.

When applied to an area such as a countertop, a piece of raw meat, a person's body, essential oils create an environment where bad microbes can't exist.

So, its my thinking that spices and spice oils kept food from spoiling and consequently had the highest value.

The high value of essential oils are re-emerging today, but for different reasons. There are many therapeutic qualities to essential oils for health and healing.

Cinnamon is good for respiratory infections, bringing down high blood sugars, and beating fungus to name a few.

3. Essential Oil Tip: Abundance Oil
=====================================

Abundance essential oil blend was created to help bring abundance into our lives. When worn, Abundance enhances the frequency of the energy field through stimulation of somatides.

Somatides transmit frequency from the cells out beyond the body when stimulated through fragrance and thought.

This enhances the 'Law of Attraction'.

It can bring about an abundance of wealth and health.

Here are the single essential oils that make up this blend:

--Myrrh
--Cinnamon Bark
--Frankincense
--Patchouli
--Orange
--Clove
--Ginger
--Spruce

Wear this oil as a fragrance (for sensitive skin dilute this with massage oil). Put drops of this oil on your checkbook, in your wallet, put in paint before painting your office, diffuse in your money corner if you practice feng-shui.

Order your Abundance oil from your Young Living distributor or by going to Young Living's Website

6. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

A frog goes into a bank and approaches the teller. He can see from her name plate that her name is Patricia Whack.

'Miss Whack, I'd like to get a $3000 loan to take a vacation.'

Patty looks at the frog in disbelief and asks his name. The frog says his name is Kermit Jagger, his dad is Mick Jagger,and that it's okay, he knows the bank manager.

Patty explains that he will need to secure the loan with some collateral. The frog says, 'Sure. I have this,' and produces a tiny porcelain elephant, about an inch tall, bright pink and perfectly formed.

Very confused, Patty explains that she'll have to consult with the bank manager and disappears into a back office.

She finds the manager and says, 'There's a frog called Kermit Jagger out there who claims to know you and wants to borrow $3000, and he wants to use this as collateral.'

She holds up the tiny pink elephant. 'I mean, what in the world is this?'

The bank manager looks back at her and says...
'It's a knick knack, Patty Whack. Give the frog a loan. His old man's a Rolling Stone.'

1. Light Up Your Mood
=======================

I remember my classes with Darius Dinshah back in 1988. He taught us that we could use color to heal ourselves and improve our body.

I was enrolled in a certificate program in holistic health sciences entitled "Health Perspectives" at Rosemont College outside of Philadelphia. Sister Leonore Britt brought in the best speakers on alternative and complementary health care topics. There was no one more qualified than Darius Dinshah to speak on this topic of "Color Therapy".

Darius was from a family who did much to advance this science. It is called Spectro-Chrome Therapy and he spoke of the 80 years of experience behind this safe, natural, inexpensive home-use medical system.

Once highly criticized, the Dinshahs are now able to say that NASA and the US Navy are using this technology - such as near-infrared to heal injuries, and NASA is looking at other valuable uses of color.

There is a whole science to the use of color to improve the body and mind. But traditional scientists don't buy it. Color Therapy is a vibrational therapy and it is not measurable in the mechanical model of science.

The Dinshahs have a health society and a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing non-pharmaceutical home color therapy. To learn more about what they offer go to: http://www.dinshahhealth.org/

For those of you who don't care about the science and just want to feel good because color can help you - you might be interested in Mood-Lites! Mood-Lites are light bulbs made to enhance health and well-being. Here are some of the colors they come in and what these colors can do for you:

Purple - Imagination and Inspiration
Orange - Life and Energy
Yellow - Joy and Cheer
Deep Crimson - Zeal and Enthusiasm
Hot Pink - Attitude and Confidence
Cool Turquoise - Quiet and Stillness
Jade - Refresh and Rejuvenate
Deep Blue - Tranquility

The woman behind this company had healing in mind. Kathy Goetzke White also created a non-profit organization "iFred" which stands for International Foundation for Research and Education on Depression. She believes that the use of these colored lights can improve mood. A portion of the sales of Mood-Lites goes to this organization.

It's nice to use scent with color - both of these vibrational therapies can be very effective when used together. You can diffuse your therapeutic grade essential oils in the room while you are basking in color.

For example - you can diffuse Peace and Calming while you turn ony our blue light. This can have a very relaxing effect.

One word of caution: You might see certain essential oils recommended with these products that are not therapeutic grade, and it may be recommended to place the oil on a light bulb so that the heat will create the scent of the oil. Oils that are other than therapeutic are perfume grade and do not have healing qualities. And, you never want to place an oil on a heat source such as a light bulb because the heat will destroy the therapeutic value of the oil.

Mood-Lites can be purchased at places like Ace Hardware, and Bed, Bath and Beyond. You can visit them online at http://snipurl.com/MoodLites4u

2. How Your Pet Can Help Fight Depression
==========================================

By: Charles Kassotis

Those who suffer from clinical depression know the empty feeling of being alone at home. Even when people are around, one can still feel lonely or unvalued. Even people who aren't clinically depressed but who experience occasional down times may sometimes have difficulty sharing feelings with family members or friends.

Research shows that keeping a family pet, one that you can cuddle and talk to, can have a positive effect on those struggling with depression. It doesn't matter whether the person is married or has children; a cat or dog, in particular, can help to smooth away negative emotions that keep him or her in the doldrums. Here are some tips for enjoying your pet during those difficult times.

1. Set aside some playtime. A pet can meet a variety of needs, depending on how a person is feeling on a given day. If you're buoyant, but have no one to share it with, take the dog outside and toss a ball around, letting your pup bring it back after each throw. The two of you can take a neighborhood walk or head off tothe park for a hike, too. Sharing physical activity and fresh air can help to sweep away those mental cobwebs. Even if you're feeling disappointed, angry, or hurt, exercising can help you feel better.

2. Enjoy a cuddle. Sometimes everyone can use a hug. Sit beside your pooch or kitty on the floor or sofa, and stroke your pet's fur while reflecting on the things that make you happy. Research shows that cuddling a pet can lower blood pressure and stimulate immune function while releasing endorphins to help your body and mood feel better.

3. Talk away. You can share any secret or describe any emotions you want to without fear of your pet's breaching the confidence.Just make sure no one else is in hearing distance, and spill your heart's woes. Your pet will most likely be able to sense your need for affection and understanding and be willing to provide those things. You'll feel better getting unpleasant things out of your system.

4. Never take out negative emotions on your pet. Kicking, pushing, yelling, or otherwise hurting an animal is never right, even if it would make you feel better. In fact, if such behavior does improve your mood, something is drastically wrong. Be sensitive to your cat or dog's needs for patience and understanding, too.

5. Have realistic expectations. Don't assume that your pet will be able to take the place of a human confidante or a professional counselor. Cultivate friendships with people you can trust, although this will take time. If your depression is deep, or lasts more than a week or two, make an appointment with a therapist to discuss possible underlying causes.

Pet therapy is just one of the many ways that depression patients can learn to manage their symptoms while under a physicia's or psychologist's care. If you are unable to care for a pet properly due to your job schedule or living conditions, don't keep one that will suffer because of these constraints. Instead, look for other ways to manage depression symptoms with the support of professional experts.

5.Recipe of the Week: Salmon in Parchment
==========================================

Adopted from Dr. Weil.com

8 oz. thin spaghetti
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons fresh dill or parsley, chopped
1 cup carrots julienned
1 cup zucchini, julienned
1 cup asparagus tips
1 cup red bell pepper, julienned
4 six-oz salmon fillet portions
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
4 large sheets of parchment paper

--Heat oven to 400 degrees.

--Cook thin spaghetti in rapidly boiling water until al dente, drain, toss with a bit of olive oil, salt and chopped fresh dill or parsley.

--Rinse salmon fillets and pat dry. Spread Dijon mustard evenly over the top of each one.

--Prepare the parchment, fold each piece of parchment in half. With scissors, cut the shape of half a heart from the folded side. Open the heart shape and place 1/4 of the pasta on the center of the paper, top with a salmon fillet, and add the vegetables. Bring the sides of the heart over the fish and fold the edges together starting at the top of the heart, overlapping the folded edge as you go. Fold the tip several times to secure it.

--Place the pouches in the middle of the hot oven and bake for 10 minutes. Serve immediately in the sealed pouches, opening them just before eating.

6. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

A Psychotherapist, starting from scratch, was having such success in his business that he could now afford to have a proper shop banner advertising his wares.

So he told a kid to paint the sign board for him and put it above his shop entrance. But, instead of his business building up, it began to slacken. He had especially noticed the ladies shying away from his shop after reading the sign board. So he decided to check it out himself.

Then he began to understand why! The boy found a small wooden board so he had to split the word in 3 places. The sign read:PSYCHO-THE-RAPIST
