1. Twinkle Toes: Tips for Pretty Feet
=======================================
Summertime is a time when we are more conscious of our feet because we are either barefoot or wearing open-toed shoes.
Tips for improving the appearance of our feet go way beyond the painted toenail. Paying attention to the skin on the top andbottom of our feet is important for looks and health. Evenexercising the feet can have an affect on their appearance. If a foot is strong and has muscles that contract and relax easily, it actually looks much better in a s'exy sandal than a tight or swollen foot.
Feet also reflect the body. Some people say that points on thefeet correlate with all of the organs and structures throughoutthe body. Thus, one can access the entire body through the feet.Foot reflexology is an example of a therapeutic modality based onthis theory. Caring for the feet is also a way to care for theentire body.
Here are some tips to have healthy, happy feet:
--Give Your Feet a Facial (would that be a Footcial?)
The skin on top of the feet can be exfoliated and moisturizedjust like the skin on your face. A glow and good feeling canresult. See recipes below for rubs and scrubs for your feet.
--Soak Your Feet for Softness and Invigoration
1 cup lemon juiceCinnamon or other essential oil or spice2 tablespoons of olive oil¼ cup of milkWater (amount does not matter)
Mix all the ingredients in a tub and soak your feet in it for awhile. Cinnamon can be replaced with any spice, perfume or flowerpetals. Peppermint is another popular favorite. Feet lovepeppermint!
This soak will leave your skin refreshed and fragrant. After thiswash your feet with a mild soap. Follow this foot careregimen for a few weeks and the skin on your feet will be silkyand smooth.
--Exercise Your Feet
Ankle Stretch: Sit with your legs stretched out in front of you.Point your toes down as if depressing a pedal (plantar flexion)and then stretch your toes toward your face (dorsiflexion) as faras is comfortable. Hold each stretch for a few seconds, thenrelax and repeat 10 times.
Foot Rollers are great to keep in an area where you spend alot oftime sitting - on the floor underneath your office chair orfavorite spot on the couch. Foot Rollers work by vigorouslyrubbing the roller with the feet over the soles of the feet.
Foot Rollers can:--Massage pressure points on the bottom of each foot andstimulate circulation--Revive sore arches, relieve joint and muscle fatigue
Purchase at: http://tinyurl.com/m43z6
--Treat Yourself to a Foot Reflexology Session
To find a reflexologist in your area go tohttp://www.reflexology-usa.org/
--Paint Your Toenails a Vibrant Color
Color can wake up dull feet and can bring more vibrancy to yourbody and life. Summer is full of even zany colors and there arepolishes that can match most outfits (even greens and blues!).Have fun with the color in your feet.
===================
2. Fragrant Feet
===================
Some people, no matter what they seem to do, create a waft of a"less than pleasant scent" as they slip off their shoes.
Scents are memorable. You want to be remembered as smellingfresh, clean and healthy. Here are some ways to prevent orneutralize malodorous feet:
--Don't wear synthetic socks (polyester) or shoes (man-madematerials). Feet need to breathe so wear natural fibers likecottons, silks, and leather for shoes.
--Drink a lot of water
--Folks who experience excessive sweating should be medicallychecked for endocrine imbalances.
--Dust feet with cornstarch
--Zinc deficiencies sometimes cause body odor
--Frequently alternate shoes that you wear
--Add fresh herbs to your diet. Eat more parsley, cilantro,cinnamon, oregano, rosemary, licorice
--Drink diluted liquid chlorophyll
--Eat alkalinizing foods (fruits, vegetables,lemon and avoidcaffeine and alcohol)
--Foot Soaks for Stinky Feet:
Tea: Brew two tea bags in 2 1/2 cups of water for 15 minutes andpour the tea into a basin containing a gallon of cool water.Soak feet for 20 minutes every day until the smell is gone.
Here are two other choices for soaks: Tomato Juice and BakingSoda with a few teaspoons of vinegar added to it.
--Deodorize your shoes with sprinkles of activated charcoal,coffee grounds, grass clippings, baking soda, cat litter
--Use essential oils on the bottom of your feet daily. Tea-tree(melaleuca), lavender, Purification (YL blend)
--Mix lavender (5 drops) with a few tablespoons of baking powderand sprinkle in your shoes. Let sit overnight and empty out inthe morning.

3. Beat Toenail Fungus
=========================
Topical applications of full-strength Tea-tree oil (melaleucaalternifolia) or oregano. Start our with 3 to 4 drops
From a reader Janet:
"Dear Marilee, I love your tips and letter.I am thinking that Thieves has gotten rid of my toe fungus. Ithink I inherited it from my mother who also had it in the sameright big toe. I tried everything - every over the counterremedy, and even did go to a podiatrist who gave me the lamisilfor three months. That worked, but this past January orFebruary I noticed that it was creeping back. I startedusing a drop or two of Thieves, and even tho it is turning my toeorange - I don't care! I think it has arrested the progression,but it will take a few more months for it to totally grow out. Iknow that it could be an infection in some other part of my body,and it is also due to an increased acidity. Just wanted you toknow - If this works, It will be a terrific testimonial!"
From Marilee: Let us know how you do Janet!

4. Pamper Your Pet's Paws
============================
Don't forget to check on your favorite canine or cat's paws,especially in the summer.
Keep on the alert for cuts, scrapes, splinters, especially onanimals who are out and about in nature.
Keep your animal’s toenails trimmed. Especially dogs who havebig nails that tend to snag, break, and create alot ofdiscomfort.
Your vetinarians can monitor nail length if this is somethingyou are not comfortable doing on your own at home.
A great product to have on hand for "pad problems" that is non-toxic and even safe enough if the animal licks it - is AnimalScents Ointment from Young Living. (It can work for human pawstoo!)

8. Help This Home Spa-er
=============================
Home Spa-er Mary writes:
"Hi Marilee, thank you for the useful info re insect repellents.Since my house seems to have been built on an anthill, I ambesieged with ants. Not wanting to use chemicals, I aminterested in your suggestion of dipping string in oils. Is thatthe pure or diluted oil?"
Hi Mary,
Soak your strings to line your window sills and doorways in pureundiluted essential oil (peppermint is most effective for ants).
Another thing you can do is to bait the area to destroy thecolony - in a non-toxic way. Here's how. In a small jar mixhoney, aspartame, and borax. Place the jar in the pathway wherethe ants come and go. Keep the jar open and tilt it on its side(out of the reach of pets and children). This may take about 2weeks to spread through the entire colony.

1. In-Sects and the City: Stop Bugs Anywhere, Naturally
=======================================================
No matter where you live, bugs in and around the house are nofun. Besides their creepy crawly appearance, their presence canrob us of a certain level of comfort that we want for ourselvesin our homes.
Home Spa-ers do not want to use toxic chemicals to fend off thesecreatures. We don't want to bring toxic substances into ourliving spaces and our lives.
Essential Oils are the best natural way to prevent and attackbugs in and around your home. Here are the choice essential oilsthat can keep bugs away:
--Lemongrass
--Eucalyptus
--Peppermint
--Lavender
--Cedarwood
--Citronella
--Purification (YL Blend)
Here are just a few ways you can use them:
--Make your own repellent (see recipe below)
--Line windows, doorways, and counters by dripping or sprayingthe oils, or soak a string in the oil (peppermint is effectiveagainst ants)
--Place a few drops of oil in your shampoo or liquid soap
--Spray clothing or bedding
--Pour a few drops onto a candle
--Place a cloth or paper strip sprayed or soaked in oils andplace around the room, especially by doors and windows.

2. Whine to Attract A Mate
============================
That's what mosquitos do.
You know that irritating buzz in your ear when a mosquito isflying around you? That's the female looking for a mate.
When the two meet, they try to synchronize their buzz. If itworks, they know they are a match.
If the tones don't converge, they know together they won't beable to produce any little baby mosquitos.
Over 3000 species of mosquitos are being studied for theirvarying flight tones to attract mates.
The report of a study being conducted by Gabriella Gibson of theNatural Resources Institute at the University of Greenwich andIan Russell of the University of Sussex is available in the July12 issue of the journal "Current Biology".
======================================================
3. CDC Recommends Eucalyptus Oil as Mosquito Repellent
======================================================
Isn't this encouraging?
Mosquito bites are a summer bummer. But what is worse is whatthat bite can bring. The threat of West Nile Virus is still veryalive. West Nile Virus is carried by mosquitos and affectshumans, horses, and birds.
One bite from a mosquito carrying WNV is all it takes to becomeinfected. An infected individual or animal can range from havingno symptoms to brain swelling and even death.
The Center for Disease Control has many recommendations on how toprevent mosquito bites and contracting West Nile Virus. One ofthe recommendations is the application of lemon eucalyptus oil.
Here is how it is described from an article on their website:
"Oil of lemon eucalyptus [p-menthane 3,8-diol (PMD)], a plantbased repellent, is also registered with EPA. In two recentscientific publications, when oil of lemon eucalyptus was testedagainst mosquitoes found in the US it provided protection similarto repellents with low concentrations of DEET."
The other CDC recommendations, DEET and Picaridin, are chemicallybased and can be very toxic to the body (the CDC and the EPA saythey are safe but "not to be used directly onthe skin").
In our Young Living arsenal the two favorite essential oil blendsfor protection against mosquitos and other buggers are directapplications of Purification and RC.

3. Essential Oil Tip of the Week: Watch This Video
===========================================================
Here is a home video of Home Spa Lady with a Home Spadisaster on her hands. During minor repairs of a leakingskylight a huge ant colony was discovered in the ceiling.
Essential oils came to the rescue. It takes 5 minutesto download. It's about 12 minutes long.

4. Success Tip: "The Secret" is No Longer A Secret
======================================================
If this isn't the epitome of a virus spreading fast, I don't knowwhat is!
Viral marketing is one of the most effective ways to spreadinformation very rapidly to a wide audience. Information aboutanything can spread just like a virus, directly from one personto another. When done strategically, it can reach epidemicproportions.
One very good example of this is the recent marketing of a videocalled "The Secret". It is an excellent video on The Law ofAttraction and how to bring whatever it is you want into yourlife.
The makers of this film are using both the Law of Attraction thatthey are teaching about in the video, and viral marketingprinciples. They have been able to spread this information to themasses who are more than ready for it.
We are in the heart of the information and empowerment boom, andmany people out there are craving this perspective on how tomake dreams come true.
I would almost bet that more than 50% of you reading thisnewsletter right now have heard about this video. If not, and youwant more information on "The Secret", go to:http://www.thesecret.tv/
=================================================================

5. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================
Two roaches were munching on garbage in an alley when oneinitiates a discussion about a new restaurant.
"I was in that new restaurant across the street," said one. "It'sso clean! The kitchen is spotless, and the floors are gleamingwhite. There is no dirt anywhere--it's so sanitary that the wholeplace shines."
"Please," said the other roach frowning. "Not while I'm eating!"

1. The History of the Bikini
============================================
The bikini was introduced to the fashion world in 1946.
Some say it is as old as history itself. Small sized garmentslike the bikini have been found depicted on Minoan Wall paintingsin 1600 BC and Roman Mosaics in 300 AD.
Two French designers, Heim and Reard, each developed tiny two-piece bathing suits in the 1940's. Heim created one to place inhis beach shop in Cannes. He called it the "Atome" after theatom.
Reard designed his two-piece bathing suit in honor of post WorldWar II experimental atomic bombs being detonated in the SouthPacific, near the Bikini Reef. He called it the "Bikini" andclaimed it was supposed to have the same earth-shattering effectson those who viewed it as the mushroom clouds of the atomicbombs.
The "bikini" superseded the "atome" and has become the officialname of our tiny two-piece suits.
Happy 60th birthday to the Bikini!
=============================
2. Is Cellulite Unhealthy?
=============================
Cellulite is neither a disease nor a sign of unhealthiness.
Cellulite is defined as a fatty deposit causinga dimpled or uneven appearance, as around the thighs andbuttocks. The fat, which is very close to the surface of theskin, pushes against connective tissues in the skin to cause adimpled appearance, called peau d'orange in French (orange skin).
Anyone can develop cellulite - even babies, though, on babies itis considered cute. Cellulite is just fatty tissue, thesame as ordinary fat. Fat cells in the body generally are adepository of toxins. Minimizing the intake of toxins, andemploying frequent detoxification measures can benefit health andimprove the appearance of cellulite.
According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, theappearance of cellulite can be controlled by the followingfactors:
--Diet filled with fruits, vegetables, and fiber
--Plenty of fluids, especially water
--Balanced weight with no fluctuation
--Regular exercise
--No smoking
There are so many lotions and potions claiming to get rid ofcellulite and firm tissue. One of the best ways to get rid ofcellulite that I have personally experienced with great resultsis Bikram Yoga. Bikram Yoga, also known as Hot Yoga, reduced mycellulite significantly.
Read my blog posting about Bikram Yoga: http://tinyurl.com/s8wky
Here's another tip for cellulite reduction:
--When you drink water throughout the day, put a drop ofgrapefruit essential oil in your glass
===========================================================
3. Essential Oil Tip of the Week: Soothe Bikini Waxed Skin
===========================================================
One of my most dreaded summer events is my ritual bikini waxingat the local salon!
Bikini waxing, which makes already sensitive skin even moresensitive, is painful and there is no getting around it.
The discomfort that comes with the ripping off of waxed hair inthe bikini zones is not my idea of summer fun. And the "soothing"lotion provided after the waxing never seems to feel soothing tome. I am always left with the redness and the sensation similarto having been burned.
I discovered a magic bullet in our Young Living products that hashelped me tremendously with this problem and I want to share itwith you.
The product is called LavaDerm Cooling Mist.
LavaDerm consists of therapeutic grade lavender essential oil andaloe vera. Take a bottle with you to the salon when you getwaxed. Spray this on immediately after the procedure and once ortwice more throughout the day.

5. HSL's Joke, or Cute Quote, of the Week
=========================================
An ambitious corporate executive finally decided to pull himselfaway from his work and take a vacation. He booked a Caribbeancruise and proceeded to have the time of his life --at least fora while. Caught in a hurricane his ship went down and was lostinstantly. The man found himself swept onto the shore of adeserted island. Only bananas and coconuts adorned the trees.Being familiar only with the comforts of modern life he was loston what to do. For the next four months he ate bananas, drankcoconut juice, longed for his old life, and fixed his gaze on thesea, hoping to spot a rescue ship.
One day, as he was lying on the beach, he spotted movement out ofthe corner of his eye. It was a rowboat, and in it was the mostgorgeous woman in a bikini he had ever seen. She rowed up to him.In disbelief, he asked her: "Where did you come from? How did youget here?"
"I rowed from the other side of the island," she said. "I landedhere when my cruise ship sank."
"Amazing," he said, "I didn't know anyone else had survived. Howmany of you are there? You were really lucky to have a rowboatwash up with you."
"It's only me," she said, "and the rowboat didn't wash up;nothing did."
He was confused, "Then how did you get the rowboat?"
"Oh, simple," replied the woman. "I made it out of raw materialthat I found on the island. The oars were whittled from gum-treebranches, I wove the bottom from palm branches, and the sides andstern came from a eucalyptus tree."
"But, but, that's impossible," stuttered the man. "You had notools or hardware -- how did you manage?"
"Oh, that was no problem," the woman said. "On the south side ofthe island, there is a very unusual strata of exposed alluvialrock. I found that if I fired it to a certain temperature in mykiln, it melted into forgeable ductile iron. I used that fortools, and used the tools to make the hardware. But enough ofthat. Where do you live?"
Sheepishly, the man confessed that he had been sleeping on thebeach the whole time.
"Well, let's row over to my place, then," she said. After a fewminutes of rowing, she docked the boat at a small wharf. As theman looked onto shore, he nearly fell out of the boat. Before himwas a stone walk leading to an exquisite bungalow painted in blueand white.
While the woman tied up the rowboat with an expertly woven hemprope, the man could only stare ahead, dumbstruck.
As they walked into the house, she said casually, "It's not much,but I call it home. Sit down, please; would you like to have adrink?"
"No, no, thank you," he said, still dazed. "I can't take any morecoconut juice."
"It's not coconut juice," the woman replied. "I have a still. Howabout a pina colada?"
Trying to hide his continued amazement, the man accepted, andthey sat down on her couch to talk.
After they had exchanged their stories, the woman announced, "I'mgoing to slip out of this bikini and into something morecomfortable. Would you like to take a shower and shave? There isa razor upstairs in the cabinet in the bathroom."
No longer questioning anything, the man went into the bathroom.There in the cabinet was a razor made from a bone handle. Twoshells honed to a hollow-ground edge were fastened to its tip,inside a swivel mechanism.
"This woman is amazing," he mused. "What next?"
When he returned, the woman greeted him wearing only vines--strategically positioned -- and smelling faintly of gardenias.
She beckoned for him to sit down next to her.
"Tell me," she began suggestively, slithering closer to him,"We've been out here for a very long time. You've been lonely.There's something I'm sure you really feel like doing right now,something you've been longing for all these months? You know...."
She stared into his eyes.
He couldn't believe what he was hearing: "You mean...," hereplied, "I can check my e-mail from here?"

============================================1. Aromatherapy Gift to the White House============================================
Gift giving is popular between world leaders and foreigndignitaries. The US State Department has an inventory of officialgifts that are published yearly. All gifts are accepted (toprevent embarrassment to the donor), but not all are used.
The 2004 Gift Inventory was published this month. US DefenseSecretary Donald Rumsfeld was given an aromatherapy gift set fromthe Jordanians. Surprisingly, he did not use it. Instead it waspassed on to the General Services Administration. One of themany functions of this administration is to dispose of unwantedpresents.
Some of the other gifts, their recipients and donors, were:
President Bush got:
--Assorted daggers and a machete from Gabon,
--A braided whip from the Hungarian prime minister.
--The "Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook", from the Sultan ofBrunei
Vice-President Cheney got:
--A "Happy Day" clock from the Swiss president,
--Gold silk pillows, scented candles and a potteryincense burner from the Jordanians
=================================================2."Beet" Wrinkles with Mariah Carey - Eat Purple=================================================
Eating purple. This is Mariah Carey's new diet.
Mariah's nutritionist told her to eat purple foods because theyare high in anti-oxidants. Foods high in antioxidants help toprevent wrinkles and slow the aging process.
Mariah eats three meals of purple vegetarian food a day. Purplefoods prevent tissue breakdown and provide some of nature's bestdefenses against aging skin.
Beets, purple grapes, and purple cabbage are three of the morepopular purple foods. Foods close to purple in color havesimilar benefits.

MINT-LEMON ICED TEA
--5 black tea bags, regular or decaf (steep in hot water for one hour)
--1 sm. can frozen lemonade
--Handful of fresh spearmint leaves (steeped with tea) or 2-3 drops of spearmint essential oil (Yes, you can drink essential oils only if they are therapeutic grade with the FDA approved"Supplemental Facts" on the label. Young Living is the best).
--Stevia sweetened to taste
Put in a gallon jar and fill with water and ice.
Why use Spearmint Essential Oil instead of the leaves? For thetherapeutic effects! A few drops of essential oil has far more therapeutic value than the leaves.

=========================================5. HSL's Joke, or Cute Quote, of the Week=========================================
A Long Hot Bath
Feeling edgy, a Home Spa-er took a hot bath.
Just as she became comfortable, the doorbell rang. She got out ofthe tub, put on her slippers and robe and went to the door.
A salesman was at the door. She didn't want to buy his cheapproducts. Slamming the door, she returned to the bath.
The doorbell rang again. On went the slippers and robe, and shestarted for the door again. She took one step, slipped on awet spot, fell backward, and hit her back against the hardporcelain bathtub.
She struggled into her street clothes and drove to the doctor.
After examining her, the doctor said, "You know, you've beenlucky. Nothing is broken. But you need to relax... Why don't yougo home and take a long hot bath?"
