1. Food Fight
================

Can an apple squeeze the living cream out of a Twinkie?

I'm not much for politics, nor am I into Twinkies . .

. . .but because I'm a "foodie" - and love vibrant, healthy,
organic food - I can see myself getting activated to campaign for
this cause.

This year the $70 billion Farm Bill gets rewritten. In the past
the junk food makers have played a big part in wiping out small
farmers and have controlled the subsidies of the bill.

The is a huge campaign to put the Farm Bill into the hands of
people like you and I - who pay for it.

Whether you are for this cause or not - you will enjoy the
silliness of this fight between the apple and the snack cake.

=======================================
2. Your Teeth Connected to Your Heart?
=======================================

This makes such perfect sense . . . in the holistic world!

(holistic = "emphasizing the interdependence of parts")

Bacteria in our mouth that attach to plaque on our teeth can
affect our heart. A recent study says it can even cause a heart
attack. This came out of the American Association for the
Advancement of Science.

What happens is certain bacteria cause the platelets to clump
which can cause a clot that could lead to a heart attack. The
bacteria involved are:

--Streptococcus sanguis (S. sanguis)
--Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis)

These bacteria are usually found in diseased gums.

The testing was done on rabbits (oh well - animal testing once
again). They injected these bacteria and found that there was
platelet clotting, faster heart rate, and changes in EKG's.

I don't believe in animal testing. And I do believe in getting
information like this out to people OTHER than through dentists!

Physicians and cardiologists should not only be sharing this
information but they should be examining patients' mouths and
taking dental histories to bring this aspect of care into play.

Once again I feel safely armed with something that is so
effective and helpful for prevention and treatment of serious
bacterial problems in my mouth - and that is using the Thieves
toothpaste and the mouthwash from Young Living. The best thing
about the action of these essential oil products is that they are
effective against the "bad bugs" but respect the ecological
terrain that needs to be present. And they are not caustic to
the mucous membranes.

I don't care if I sound like I'm trying to promote this product
because of my affiliation with Young Living or not. The truth is
these mouth care products are by far the best thing we have got
going for good SAFE and effective mouth care.

Essential oils are so effective in the health of the mouth and
gums. Besides my own personal positive experiences with the
toothpaste and the mouthwash, I have heard so many people speak
of serious improvements in their mouth health because of
switching over to Thieves.

I used to use Tom's of Maine thinking I was getting the best
natural toothpaste until I realized it had Sodium Laurel Sulfate
in it. And since Colgate bought them I don't think they are going
to change that anytime soon.

heart attacks go to: http://tinyurl.com/2zr35n

3. Essential Oil Tip: Thieves for Mouth Care
=============================================

I was flying down to Virginia Beach last week and the airport
security took my brand new tube of Thieves toothpaste! I was
tiffed! It was one ounce over the limit (I carried on all of my
luggage for my two day trip).

But they didn't get my bottle of Thieves essential oil. Thank
Goodness!

That is what I ended up using to brush my teeth with since I
didn't have my toothpaste and I couldn't bear to use the "other"
stuff.

So here is the tip. . .

. . .if you are without your toothpaste but you have your bottle
of Thieves - put a few drops on your toothbrush and brush your
teeth with it! Still great refreshing clean teeth!

Order your essential oils from your Young Living
distributor or by going to http://tinyurl.com/aenfp

4. Success Tip: Albert Einstein
================================

"If A is a success in life, then A equals x plus y plus z. Work
is x; y is play; and z is keeping your mouth shut."

Albert Einstein

==================================================
5.Recipe of the Week: Mouth Watering Mango Pudding
==================================================

This is a healthy, raw, wholesome, and sugarless dessert.

2 Mangos
1/4 Lime (Optional)
Shredded Coconut & Chopped Pecans, to taste

Use a vegetable peeler to peel mangos. Then place a knife flush
to one of the flat sides of the mango pit and cut the mango away
from the pit. Add 1/4 lime and blend until perfectly smooth.

To complete the dessert, pour into dessert cups/dishes and add
shredded coconut and chopped pecans to taste. This also tastes
good with just the pureed mango.

7. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

YOUR AGE BY EATING OUT

(get out your pen, paper, and calculator - this is fun and
fascinating!)

--Pick the number of times a week that you would like to go out
to eat. (more than once but less than 10)

--Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)

--Add 5

--Multiply it by 50

--If you have already had your birthday this year add 1757 ....
If you haven't, add 1756.

--Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

--You should have a three digit number

--The first digit of this was your original number
(I.e., how! Many times you want to go out to restaurants in a
week.)

The next two numbers are YOUR AGE!

This is the only year (2007) that it will ever work!

1. Eat Fish, Feel Good
=======================

Did your grandmother ever tell you that fish was good "brain
food"?

I remember hearing that as a kid, and all that did was gross me
out!

I sure have come a long way!

Not only is fish a large part of my diet, but one of my favorite
supplements that makes me FEEL GREAT are fish oils.

If you want to get started on a health care regime where you see
and feel positive results rapidly, then consider incorporating
fish oils into your daily routine.

Fish oils, which consist primarily of omega-3 fatty acids, have
fabulous benefits. From weight loss to decreasing inflammation -
and they can also prevent serious diseases. There are multiple
studies that validate these benefits.

A 1996 study by the American Heart Association showed fish oils
to reduce the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and abnormal heart
rhythms. They also found that consuming fish slowed the buildup
of plaque in arteries.

Studies done on the Greenland Eskimos who have a very high
intake of fish oils, showed a very low incidence of heart
attacks, asthma, diabetes, psoriasis, and allergies.

There's a long list of researched based health benefits, and
here are some of them:

-- Weight Loss
A study that came out of Perth Australia showed that
higher fish consumption can help high blood pressure and
obesity.

-- Diminished risk for sudden cardiac death. This means less
chance of dying suddenly from a heart attack because:

* the fish oil fatty acids reduce blood clotting by
decreasing the stickiness of blood platelets
* omega-3 oils may play a role in stabilizing heart
rhythms
* the electrical impulses that go awry during some
heart attacks are preserved in people who eat fish and
use fish oils

-- Helpful for Asthma
Researchers at University of Wyoming conducted a study
with asthmatic children feeding half of them
a high fish diet while a control group continued their
regular diet. The kids who ate more fish were less likely
to have asthma attacks and were able to breathe more
easily.

-- Reduce craving for fatty foods

-- Prevent and treat major depression, bipolar and ADHD
A recent Australian study of 21 depressed patients
confirmed that the most severely depressed had imbalances
of fatty acids in their blood and cell membranes.
Evidence suggests DHA-type fish oil helps regulate
serotonin, a neurotransmitter known for its "feel-good"
qualities.

-- Improve skin, hair, and nail health

-- Prevent Alzheimer's Disease

-- Prevent diabetes

-- Prevent and treat rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus,
inflammatory bowel disease, and other inflammatory issues

Here are some good sources of fish to consider (also - fish oil
supplements are very effective and made from mostly cold water
fish):

Salmon
Herring
Sardines
Anchovy
Mackerel
Sablefish
Bluefish
Rainbow and Lake Trout
Halibut
Oysters
Turbot
Striped Sea Bass

When I first started taking fish oils I noticed three significant
changes in my body within 24 hours.

The first was my skin - it just felt so much smoother.

The second was that my body just "felt better". It's hard to
explain because I hadn't felt bad, but just moving around seemed
easier and exercising seemed a little easier. I attributed it to
the anti-inflammatory effects of the fish oils. I didn't think I
had inflammation in my body but maybe I had low level
inflammation.

The third was my mood was uplifted - a subtle but noticeable
difference.

There are many good sources of fish oils. It is important to be
certain to get fish oils that are clean and as free from mercury
as possible. I am happy with Young Living's Omega Blue fish oils
because of the filtering system they use to clean the fish oil,
and they are preserved with essential oils so they don't get
rancid (top fish oils on the market are doing this now).

3. Essential Oil Tip: Lemon for Fishy Smells
=============================================

A great way to overcome the smell of fish on your hands or
environment is by using lemon oil.

To get a strong fishy smell off your hands use salt with
sprinkles of lemon oil.

distributor or by going to http://tinyurl.com/aenfp

4. Success Tip: Chinese Proverb
================================

"All cats love fish but fear to wet their paws."

===========================================
5.Recipe of the Week: Vin's Baked Snapper
===========================================

This recipe is near and dear to my heart because I just love
snapper and it was submitted by a dear friend who loves to fish
and has spent most of his life on the water.

--Coat snapper lightly in extra virgin olive oil
--Combine 1/4 tsp garlic powder, paprika, ginger powder
--Sprinkle it over the fish
--Stuff fish with chopped tomatoes, asparagus spears, fresh
cilantro or basil
--Sprinkle sea salt and pepper to taste
--Wrap in aluminum foil
--Bake at 350 for 30 - 45 minutes depending on fish size

Thanks Vin! - Murph says YOU A.T.B.

=========================================
6. HSL's Joke or Cute Quote of the Week
=========================================

A fish goes into a bank and approaches the teller.

He can see from her nameplate that the teller's name is Patricia
Whack.

He says, "Ms. Whack, I'd like to get a loan to buy a boat and go
on a long vacation. Patti looks at the fish in disbelief and asks
how much he wants to borrow. The fish says $30,000. The teller
asks his name and the fish says that his name is Rainbow Jagger,
his dad is Mick Jagger, and that it's okay, he knows the bank
manager.

Patti explains that $30,000 is a substantial amount of
money and that he will need to secure some collateral against the
loan. She asks if he has anything he can use as collateral. The
fish says, "Sure, I have this," and produces a tiny porcelain fly
rod and reel, about an inch long; detailed and perfectly formed.
Very confused, Patti explains that she'll have to consult with
the manager and disappears into a back office.

She finds the manager and says, "There's a fish named Rainbow
Jagger out there who claims to know you and wants to borrow
$30,000. And he wants to use this as collateral." She holds up
the tiny rod & reel. "I mean, what the heck is this??"

The bank manager looks back at her and says: "It's a knick-knack,
Patti Whack. Give the fish a loan. His old man's a Rolling
Stone."

=======================
1. Achy Breaky Joints
=======================

I was trying to come up with some fun words about arthritis and
osteoporosis to put to the tune of the famous country western
song "Achy Breaky Heart" by Billy Ray Cyrus.

Then I got a little too silly with it and thought to myself
"there really is nothing fun, or silly, about these two serious
problems!"

Having a strong family history of arthritis I try my best to do
as much as I can to prevent this in myself. Part of my protocol
is frequent Bikram Yoga classes, lots of good fats and oils, and
being careful what I eat.

This week I had a little attention grabber, a "red flag". My
right knee was very achy, and I hadn't injured it or done
anything differently. It lasted for several days. I thought it
could be the beginnings of an arthritic joint.

Then I realized there was one thing I was doing differently.
I was eating the most delicious Jersey tomatoes that are very
abundant now here in New Jersey.

I stopped eating them, and it went away.

Nightshade family plants are known to cause joint inflammation.

I try to tell that to my auntie who is wheelchair bound from
arthritis, but she won't budge from her favorite foods which are
the nightshades - tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, and peppers -
especially at this time of year!

I am not saying this is the cause of all arthritis, but I firmly
believe it is a contributing factor. Especially because as a
former colon therapist I saw many people who had colon,
digestive, and intestinal issues that also had arthritis (that
also often accompanied psoriasis). I would informally survey
these clients - many loved nightshades - particularly tomatoes -
and they often ate lots of pizza and pasta.

There is a research foundation based on this supposition. The
Arthritis Nightshades Research Foundation was founded by
Dr. Norman F. Childers, Ph.D.(age 95) Emeritus, University of
Florida - Retired, Rutgers University.

Childers discovered through his own pain and experiences
with arthritis that when he eliminated the nightshades from his
diet, the arthritis went away.

He wrote a book "The Nightshades and Health" in
1977. Five thousand of copies sold in three years, helped by the
Rodale Research staff in Emmaus, Pennsylvania. (Read more:
http://tinyurl.com/yo7x42 ).

Here are some recommendations about what foods and supplements
that are good for arthritis:

--Green leafy veggies - such as watercress, parsley, celery, kale

--Seaweeds

--Carrots

--Barley and wheat grass products (anti-inflammatory and
detoxifying)

--Avocados

--Pecans

--Potassium broth

--Whole grains, such as brown rice, millet, oats, wheat, and
barley

--Cold-water fish such as salmon, sardines, or herring

--Cherry juice

--Fish oils (Omega Blue - YL)

--Flax oil

--Ningxia Red Juice (YL)

--Fabulous Young Living supplement: Sulfurzyme. A wonderful
natural anti-inflammatory made with Chinese wolfberry and the
highest quality MSM

What to avoid (besides the nightshades which are tomatoes,
potatoes, eggplant, and peppers):

--Tobacco
--Coffee
--Caffeinated tea
--Salt
--Artificial colors
--Preservatives

Also avoid meat - it can aggravate arthritis because it is high
in uric acid, a primary factor in the increase of symptoms.

As for osteo - that's for a later article. Hope that doesn't
disappoint you too much.

But to make up for it - here is a link to a video of Billy Ray
Cyrus singing "Achy Breaky Heart"!

2. Hydrotherapy for Joint Health
==================================

Hydrotherapy is simply therapy in water. It is often a prescribed
treatment for joint problems, especially arthritis. Although
swimming is a good exercise for people with joint disease,
hydrotherapy is different because it is often administered by
physical therapists in a warm-water pool with certain exercises.

The water supports your weight and takes the stress off of the
joints. It allows the muscles to get well exercised well without
stressing the joints. Muscles help support joints.

It can also help increase range of motion. Muscles can get
strengthened just by moving arms and legs in the water. The water
naturally and gently creates resistance. Range of motion can
also be increased.

3. I want to know what's swimming in your head!
===============================================

It's late summer. . . the nice lazy dazy days of summer.

I'm thinking that if you're sitting around just chillin' before
the onslaught of September that you might have a few minutes to
complete this survey.

I've been wanting to know some things that might be swimming
around in your head :)

==============================================
3. Essential Oil Tip: Most Popular for Joints
==============================================

I should clarify this by saying that this is the most popular
essential oil blend in the Young Living line.

There's a zillion testimonials about this oil blend and
arthritis.

The blend is Panaway. It's a combination of:

--helichrysum
--wintergreen
--clove
--peppermint

According to the Essential Desk Reference (http://www.essentialscience.net) when using for bone pain it is
recommended to add more wintergreen and this combination can be
diluted with Ortho Ease Massage Oil. Apply topically over the
affected area.

To order these essential oils contact your Young Living
distributor or go to http://tinyurl.com/aenfp.

pessimist sees only the red light. But the truly wise person is

5.Recipe of the Week: Arthritis Pain Home Food Remedy
=====================================================

(Okay - don't throw tomatoes at me with this one! I know it
sounds wild but there are claims of success with this).

Arthritis Pain Home Remedy

1 pound Golden raisins
1 pint Gin (any kind)

Put raisins in a large bowl and cover with gin.
Let sit until gin evaporates.
This takes about 7 days.
Once the gin is gone, put the raisins in a jar and cover.
Every morning, eat 9 raisins--exactly 9--not 8 or 10, but 9!
It may take about a month before effect becomes noticeable.

A man is recovering from hip replacement surgery when a nurse
asks him how he is feeling.

"I'm O.K. but I didn't like the four-letter-word the doctor used

"What did he say?" asked the nurse.

OOPS!"

1. Is Your Water Bottle Killing You?
=====================================

Should we be drinking water out of plastic bottles?

This is a hot topic these days. And hot is the operative word.

With summer upon us its not uncommon for someone to drink bottled
water that has been previously sitting in a hot garage or a trunk
of a car. Its also not unusual to have a water bottle that lives
permanently on the car seat and is used for frequent re-fillings.

Heat can leach chemicals out of the plastic bottles into the
water. These chemicals can disrupt the endocrine and hormonal
system. Known as xenoestrogens, these chemicals mimic estrogen
and send the body's estrogen levels way up. Estrogen
dominance is believed to be responsible for age related weight
gain and many metabolic disorders in women and men - including
cancer.

A few years ago while teaching one of my essential oil classes, a
woman pleaded with me to share information with other women
about the dangers of drinking water out of plastic bottles. She
was Director of Hospice for a local prestigious university
hospital and she said that the plastics leaching into
the water from the plastic bottle was a top causes of breast
cancer in women.

This past week Sheryl Crow was on the Ellen Show and made a
statement to this effect. She felt that her breast cancer was
related to drinking water out of plastic bottles.

Also this past week a former client of mine - a healthy, vibrant,
holistic nurse - visited me after being diagnosed with breast
cancer. She mentioned to me that she often drank water from
plastic water bottles that she kept on her car seat.

For three years an email has be circulating through cyberspace
allegedly from Johns Hopkins University about plastic bottles
and cancers. Johns Hopkins has a webpage specifically addressing
this issue ( http://tinyurl.com/2u92ds ). They are calling it an email hoax.

Johns Hopkins has selected a credible researcher to dispel the
myth that has circulated with their name attached about dioxins
and plastic water bottles. On this site researcher Rolf Halden
PhD explains what dioxins are and where they come from. He says
that there are no dioxins in plastics. He also says that freezing
a water bottle will actually prevent a release of chemicals from
the plastics. This dispels the myth that frozen plastic water
bottles release chemicals.

I noticed he didn't mention the polyethylene terephthalate, high
density polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, low density
polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, and all other resins
and mixed plastics that carry food and water.

He does admit however that heating plastic releases chemicals.
He even says that microwaving some plastic packaging materials
releases chemicals and that people should be careful of certain
plastics they are heating. Halden mentioned that the warning
label using sip straws and with hot beverages is not a
preventative from getting burned, its a warning that certain
chemicals will be released when the straw is used with a hot
beverage.

To learn more about "migrating chemicals" from plastics into
food, read Harvard's Family Health Guide

2. Messages from Water
===========================

This is an excerpt from my blog two years ago after I attended
the American Holistic Nurses Conference that was held in
Philadelphia!

June 23, 2005
HomeSpaLady about 'Messages from Water'

"Actually - I like the idea of "Messages TO Water".

This morning I decided to write the word LOVE on a big piece of
paper and tape it to my 5 gallon bottle of spring water that is
in my kitchen. I taped it so the word itself was facing the water
and that I could see the word through the other side of the
bottle.

Now, you may be thinking that is crazy and curious as to why I
would do that - and what effects this could possibly have. Well,
if so - here's what it's all about. . .

A Japanese researcher, Dr. Masuru Emoto, has been fascinated with
the mystery of water and has been studying the differences in
crystalline structures of different waters.

The results of his work have taken scientific and spiritual
communities by storm.

Emoto came upon an idea of photographing water crystals of water
from different places (such as a toxic environment, or Lourdes in
France) and found the crystals to be extremely different.
Different in the way that the more toxic the waters, the more
distorted the shape of the crystal - and the more vibrant the
waters, the more beautiful the form of the crystal.

A good description of his work can be found at www.hado.net.
Emoto's work goes on to show how external influences such as
sound can affect the crystals of water. When water was exposed to
music such as Beethoven's Pastorale - the crystal form was
exquisite.

When it was exposed to heavy metal the crystal form was
fragmented. He also found that exposing water to certain words
such as Love and Appreciation - the crystal was beautifully
formed. When exposed to the expression 'you make me sick, I will
kill you' - the crystal didn't even exist - it looked like
sludge.

You can see pictures of these water crystals in his book:

MESSAGES FROM WATER, Volume 1
$25.00
ISBN 4-939098-00-1
8×10 inches, 147 pages in full color

Besides reading this book, I have also attended a few lectures
and seminars on his work by people who have studied it either
with him or in depth.

This past weekend at the AHNA conference, one of my colleagues
and friends, Jane Hershey RN, MSN, HNC did a fabulous
presentation of Dr. Emoto's work. I was highly inspired
by her story and presentation and obviously influenced enough to
write the words of LOVE on my water.

Hey, I figure - we are over 70% water ourselves - and if we drink
this 'infused' water - what a profound impact it can have on us.
As a matter of fact, when you start to think of the implications
of all of this - you can even track the importance of how your
thoughts affect everything around you. Thoughts are vibration and
Emoto's work shows us how water is very receptive to vibration.

We can use this concept to literally transform our lives. It
makes sense to me from an energetic perspective - because water
is a powerful conductor of energy - and our thoughts are energy.
The more I've pondered this the more it is clear to me that water
is a great tool to heal and transform our lives. It is the
perfect element in which to 'infuse' positive thoughts and energy
- because it flows to us and through us, and eventually becomes
us.

So, the next time you drink, bathe, shower, swim, or use it
therapeutically - bless it with your thoughts, and infuse it with
a positive suggestion to lift you to a high level of wellness in
body, mind and spirit."

3. Flavored Water Recipes
===========================

These were written in 1881~

From "The Household Cyclopedia of General Information"

You Young Living folk will love these!

--Cinnamon Water

Take of bruised cinnamon, 1 lb.; water, 2 galls. Simmer in a
still for 1/2 an hour, put what comes over into the still again;
when cold strain through flannel.

--Eau Sans-Pareil

Take 2 galls. of fine old honey-water, put it into a still
capable of holding 4 galls., and add the thinly pared rinds of 6
or 8 fresh citrons, neither green nor mellow ripe. Then add 60 or
70 drops of fine Roman bergamot; and, having luted the apparatus
well, let the whole digest in a moderate heat for 24 hours. Draw
off, by a water-bath heat, about 1 gall.

--Jessamine Water

Take 6 lbs. of the white sweet almond cakes from which jessamine
oil has been made abroad; beat and sift them to a fine powder,
and put to it as much fresh oil of jessamine as will be required
to make it into a stiff paste. Let this paste be dissolved in
about 6 qts. of spring-water, which has been previously well
boiled, and left until it has become about half cold. Stir and
mix the whole well together, and when the oil and water have been
well combined, let the whole stand until the powder has fallen to
the bottom of the vessel. Now pour the liquid off gently, and
filter it through cotton, in a large tin funnel, into the glass
bottle in which it is to be kept for use. The powder or sediment
which has been left at the bottom of the vessel, when dried by
the heat of the sun, answers very well for making almond paste
for the hands.

--Jamaica Pepper Water

Jamaica pepper is the fruit of a tall tree growing in the
mountainous parts of Jamaica, where it is much cultivated because
of the great profit arising from the cured fruit, sent in large
quantities annually into Europe. Take of Jamaica pepper, 1/2 lb.;
water, 2 1/2 galls.; draw off 1 gall. with a pretty brisk fire.
The oil of this fruit is very ponderous, and therefore this water
is made in an alembic.

--Myrtle Water

Infuse 8 or 10 lbs. of the cuttings of green myrtle in nearly 20
galls. of rain or river water, and add thereto a pint of fresh
yeast, after it has stood for 24 hours. At the end of another day
and night, put the whole into a still, with 1 lb. of bay-salt.
Draw off the whole of the water, and next day infuse more myrtle
leaves as before, and distill again. Repeat the same a third
time.

--Orange-flower Water

Take 2 lbs. of orange flowers, and 24 qts. of water, and draw
over 3 pts. Or, take 12 lbs. of orange flowers, and 16 qts. of
water, and draw over 15 qts.

--Orange-peel Water

Take of the outward yellow rind of Seville oranges, 4 oz.; water,
3 1/2 gals., draw off 1 gal. by the alembic, with a brisk fire.

--Peppermint Water

Take of the herb of peppermint, dried, 1 1/2 lbs.; water, as much
as is sufficient to prevent burning. Distill off a gallon. This
has been known to allay sickness when nothing else would succeed,
and is used in flatulent colics. A wine glassful may be taken,
and often repeated.

Another.--Take of oil of peppermint, 1 lb.; water, a sufficient
quantity. Draw off 30 galls. This is stimulant and carminative,
and covers disagreeable flavors.

--Portugal and Angel Waters

Take 1 pt. of orange-flower water, 1 pt. of rose water, and 1/2
pt. of myrtle-water; to these put a 1/2 oz. of distilled spirit
of musk, and an ounce of spirit of ambergris. Shake the whole
well together, and the process will be finished.

--Rose-water

Take of the leaves of fresh damask-roses with the heels cut off,
6 lbs., water, as much as to prevent burning. Distill off a
gallon. The distilled water should be drawn from dried herbs,
because the fresh cannot be got at all times in the year.
Whenever the fresh are used the weights must be increased; but
whether the fresh or dry are made use of, it is left to the
judgment of the operator to vary the weight, according as the
plants are in greater or less perfection, owing to the season in
which they grew, or were collected.

--Small Snail Water

Take of balm, mint, hart's tongue, ground ivy, flowers of the
dead nettle, mallow-flowers, elder flowers, each a handful;
snails freed from their shells, and whites of eggs, each 4 oz.; nutmegs,
3 oz.; milk, 1 gall. Distill in a water bath to dryness.

--Strawberry Water

Take of the bruised fruit, 20 lbs.; water a sufficient quantity.
Draw off 23 galls.; this water is very fragrant.

4. Essential Oil Tip: Eats Petrochemicals
==========================================

Essential oils (therapeutic grade only) eat petrochemicals.

They "sacrifice" themselves to clean up a toxic environment. The
good news is that they clean up the petrochemicals in our bodies
too.

Here is my favorite demonstration:

I take a styrofoam cup - the epitome of a petrochemical.
I put a drop of lemon on it. The same lemon that I put in my
drinking water. We watch how the lemon eats the styrofoam cup.

When you try to think of ways to clean your body up of the
petrochemical exposure that it gets - think of the essential
oils. Especially Young Living.

6.Recipe of the Week: The Water Recipe
=============================================

Keeping yourself hydrated is important for your health and
beauty.

Drink 1/2 your body weight of water in ounces, daily.

Example: 180 lb = 90 oz. of water daily.
Divide that into 8 or 10 oz. glasses and that's how many glasses
you will need to drink, daily.
Use 1/4 tsp. of sea salt for every quart of water you drink.
Use salt liberally with food.
As long as you drink the water, you can use the salt.
Avoid caffeinated or alcoholic drinks.
These are diuretics and will dehydrate you.
Every 6 oz. of caffeine or alcohol requires an additional 10 to
12 oz. of water to re-hydrate you.

Water into Wine

A minister is driving down to New York to see a show and he's
stopped in Connecticut for speeding. The state trooper smells
alcohol on his breath and then he sees an empty wine bottle on
the floor, and he says, "Sir, have you been drinking?"

And the minister says, "Just water."

The sheriff says, "Then why do I smell wine?"

And the minister looks down at the bottle and says, "Good Lord,
He's done it again!"

1. 12 Top Reasons to Eat Watermelon
=======================================

Sweet treats in the summertime. .yummm. . especially when
they are cold and refreshing!

The classic image of going out for ice cream on a hot summer eve
can be so appealing, but remains that, an image - at least for
those of us who make food choices that don't include refined
sugar.

The best way to satisfy that hankering for a cold refreshing
sweet treat in the summer is with watermelon.

And satisfying our "summertime sweet tooth" is not the only
reason to eat watermelon - here are 12 other very important
health reasons to eat this delicious fruit. . .

1. Provides additional water to the body

2. Good for bad breath

3. Hangover remedy

4. Can improve sore throat and mouth sores

5. Cleanses the kidneys (juice the entire watermelon - rind,
seeds, and all and drink for a good kidney cleanse)

6. Naturally gets rid of excess fluid in the body - it has
diuretic properties

7. Liver supportive - contains glutathione

8. Cleanses blood and strengthens glands - contains chlorophyll

9. It's a good source of potassium

10. Fat free - low in calories, high in energy

11. Nutrients in watermelon include vitamins A, B6, and C

12. Helps lower risk of heart disease: Has the highest amount of
lycopenes in fruit and veggies according to the USDA Caratenoid
Database. (In Europe, researchers have found a significant
association between high dietary lycopene and a 48 percent lower
risk of heart disease)

Whatever you believe creates your reality
Attitude is the magic word
Together Everyone Achieves More
Enthusiasm is the wellspring of life

======================
1. Hotel Room Yuckies
======================

Traveling can be exciting and exhausting at the same time.

After long hours schlepping stuff on planes and trains, and then
sightseeing with family or attending business events - whatever
the reason for the trip - we look forward to getting into our
hotel room to unwind, destress, shower or bathe, and get some
rest.

But what happens when you arrive and the room stinks (from
either the previous guest, cleaning products, or room
deodorizers), you are hesitant to take your shoes off, and you
immediately dismiss soaking in the tub once you see the inside of
the shower curtain?

I'm not just talking about low end hotel experiences here,
these things happen at high end places too.

I admit, I may be pretty fussy about hotel rooms. And yes, I
have been known to check out of decent places at midnight and
check in somewhere else if I didn't feel completely satisfied or
safe.

And then, if I'm staying at a place for several days I actually
rearrange the furniture to my liking and I keep the ironing
board up for more counter space (usually for my supplements, and
baggies full of my herbal tea bags and protein powder)

Oh my gosh, I can't believe I'm sharing this with you but I
figure some of you might be like me! - so I've come up with some
tips for dealing with "hotel room yuckies" (especially if you are
staying for a few days):

--Inspect your room and make sure it's satisfactory before the
bellhop leaves you there with your luggage

--Open your suitcase all the way with the top flap on the luggage
rack and hang up your hanging clothes. Keep your folded clothes
in your suitcase rather than putting them in drawers - use the
inside top of the suitcase as an area to spread your clothes.

--Pull down the bedspread half way on the bed so you don't have
to sit on top of the bedspread - sitting on the underside of the
bedspread seems less yucky

--Meet someone in housekeeping who is in charge of your room.
Tell them you are allergic to artificial scents and cleaning
products and to not use them in your room during your stay.

--You might even tell housekeeping that you don't need them to
clean your room or change your sheets while you are there, and
that you will let them know if you need clean towels and when you
need to get rid of your trash.

--Take footies to wear while in hotel room instead of being
barefoot.

--Use one of the glasses in the bathroom to put your toothbrush
in vertically, whether it has a cover or not. If it is not
covered put the toothbrush handle inside of the glass and put the
brush part at the top where it is not touching any surfaces.

--Take your own soap and carry it in a plastic soap tray

This is how I use my essential oils: (and they are absolutely
essential - I would never travel without them for many reasons,
one is that they naturally kill unwanted bacteria, virus, and
fungus):

----Sprinkle several drops on the carpet throughout the room (if
I'm barefoot) {I like Purification}

----Spray my favorite essential oil spray {Thieves spray bottle I
carry in my purse} on the remote control and the earpiece and
mouthpiece of the phone

----Sprinkle several drops of a good anti-microbial oil
{Purification or Thieves} on a washcloth and stuff it into the
vents of the a/c/heater {I love Purification mixed with orange
for this}. Turn on the fan and run it so the oil diffuses
throughout the room.

----If you must use the drawers, spray or drip a few drops of oil
in the drawer or on a tissue and then put it in the drawer next
to your clothes (lavender is good for this).

----Place a few drops of lemon (I always have lemon with me) on
the bathroom counter and wipe it down

----Place a few drops of oil on the bed where you will sit
(lavender) and put a few drops on a tissue and tuck under your
pillow.

----If you are really serious about good hand washing, then
travel with the new Thieves foaming dispenser soap - carry it in
a large ziplock baggie.

Some of these tips might fall into the "green hotel" category -
that is a side benefit - I think feeling good is of primary
importance. If you want to learn how to choose a "Green Hotel",
read this article: http://tinyurl.com/3by8zt

If you are impassioned about this topic and you want to encourage
hotels you stay in to become "more green ", give them this

2. Cool Places to Visit in the U.S.
===================================

By David Dutton

When in the United States, there is an endless
list of places to visit and it will depend on
your interests, the time you have to spend and
how far you wish to travel.

In the state of Arizona, you will find the
Grand Canyon. Created by the Colorado River over
6 million years, it is a spectacular gorge stretching
277 miles with widths of between 4 to 18 miles and
depths of more than a mile.

California boasts some really interesting places to
visit including the infamous Alcatraz Prison, Death
Valley National Park, which is the hottest, driest and
lowest deserts on earth, The Hearst Castle, J.Paul Getty
Museum and the Griffith Observatory, which are both in
L.A. Depending on what time of year you plan to visit,
Yosemite National Park will offer you something different
and a visit to California would not be complete without
tour of Warner Brothers Studio in Burbank.

The Mystic Seaport Maritime Museum and the USS
Nautilus Submarine Museum makes Connecticut a must
stop for those of you interested in the sea and the
vessels that traverse under and over the waves.

The Historical Society of Delaware takes up a 500
block of a mall in Wilmington and includes the
Delaware History Museum, the Old Town Hall, Willington
Square and HSD's research Library.

High on the list of places to visit in the USA would
have to be NASA's Kennedy Space Center and for over
thirty years tours groups have heard the stories of
men in space and indeed on the moon. Castillo de San
Marcos and the Florida Museum of Natural History are
well worth a look as well.

Popping over to Hawaii you can visit the great beaches
and many monuments and sights but the one that immediately
come to mind is the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor.

Back on the mainland, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential
Library and Museum and Lincoln's Home at Springfield as well as
Frank Lloyd Wright's Home and Studio at Oak Park are the
interesting points in Illinois.

Lincoln City, Indiana is home to Abraham Lincoln Boyhood National
Memorial and Louisiana boasts the National World War II Museum in
New Orleans and Oak Valley Plantation in Vacherie.

In Maine, there is the Maine Maritime Museum and the seashore
trolley Museum while in Maryland you can see the Antietam (Civil
War) National Battlefield and the Museum of Maryland African
American History and Culture.

Massachusetts offers a smorgasbord of places to visit
including Historic Salem, famous for the Witch Trials,
Plymouth Plantation and the Pilgrim Hall Museum both at
Plymouth, Paul Revere House, John F Kennedy Presidential
Library, Museum of Fine Arts, USS Constitution Ship Museum
and The freedom Trail all at Boston. Do not forget Harvard
University and Historic Deerfield as well as the National
Heritage Museum at Lexington and Battleship Cove at Fall River.

In Michigan there is the Henry Ford Museum at Dearborn and the
Gerald R Ford Museum at Grand Rapids.

Missouri is home to the Harry S Truman Presidential Library.

Nevada has the Hoover Dam.

New Jersey there is the Morristown National historical Park and
the Thomas Edison National Historical Site.

Places to visit in New York are the Empire State Building, the
world Famous Statue of Liberty, Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum,
Ellis Island Immigration Museum, National Baseball Hall of Fame,
West Point (US Military Academy) and the American Museum of
Natural History.

The home of the Vanderbilt's, Baltimore Estate and the historic
Latta Plantation are both situated in North Carolina and South
Carolina is home to Fort Sumter.

The United States Air Force Museum is near Dayton, Ohio and in
Oregon you can visit the Lewis and Clark National and State
Historical Parks.

Steeped in history, is Pennsylvania is home of the Gettysburg
Battlefield, National Civil War Museum, Independence Hall,
National Constitution Center and the Railroad Museum of
Pennsylvania.

Mount Rushmore National Park in South Dakota is known the world
over and while you're in the area, there is Badlands National
Park and Black hills National forest as well.

In Tennessee there is the National Civil Rights Museum and Texas
is the home of The Alamo and NASA's Johnson Space Center.

In Virginia, there is the Home of Thomas Jefferson, Monticello,
Mount Vernon, the Home of George Washington and Stratford Hall
Plantation which was the birthplace of Robert E. Lee.

The name Washington speaks for itself, The White House, Arlington
National Cemetery, Smithsonian Museums, Lincoln Memorial, and
Memorials of Holocaust, WWII and Vietnam Veterans and Ford's
Theatre.

In Wyoming there is the beautiful Yellowstone National Park.

And for the young and the young at heart, one of the most popular
places to visit is, of course, Disneyland.

One of the best ways to diffuse oils (when you don't have a cold

an unseen area.

You can also sprinkle on the carpet before vacuuming.

The best ways to diffuse in general is with a high quality cold

1. Under Your Toes ~ Organic Lawns, Safe Beaches
================================================

I love going barefoot, especially in the summer.

Summertime is an invitation for all of us to connect our
uncovered feet with our favorite terrain.

Whether it's using our toes to pull up blades of grass or
wiggling our feet in sandy beaches - there is a pleasurable,
intimate, and healthy connection that we make with the earth. . .
unless it's tainted with unhealthy bacteria or chemicals.

It is not easy to know where to safely put our bare feet, except
in our own controlled environment like our back yards.

Public places are especially difficult to know unless they have
the good sense to let people know if the area has been treated
with something or if the area is unsafe.

Beaches can have high levels of undesirable bacteria (usually e.
coli) and we might not know it until it is closed down by the
municipality. Water can be unsafe for swimming and unnatural
bacteria can affect the shore line and the sand.

Many lawns and public grassy areas can be loaded with chemicals
to kill weeds and make the grass grow greener and thicker.
Sometimes we are forewarned with little white flags bearing the
universal NO symbol over icons of pets and children. In other
words - "the chemicals placed on the lawn are harmful".

I am much more aware of this now that I have my dog Prin whom I
walk in neighborhoods and parks. I appreciate those little white
flags because I know when to stay away. I love seeing grassy
areas that have weeds and clover where I know I can safely let
Prin and my bared feet run loose.

I've been reading about organic lawn care. Although I have a
natural lawn care service that is pesticide and chemical free, I
know from my experience with essential oils and eating cultured
foods that there are a variety of ways that we can "let nature
take care of nature".

At the Young Living Farms out in Mona, Utah, where acres and
acres of organic farming abound, we can witness goats eating
weeds. There is a secret recipe of essential oils specifically
for killing bugs and weeds which is called the "ho, ho, ho"
formula. If any of you HSL readers out there who are YL fanatics
like me know what is in this formula - please email me. I
actually don't think it is a secret recipe - I believe YL would
be very open to sharing this - but for some reason it has picked
up that reputation.

Now most of us aren't about to go out and buy goats, but we might
consider composting (compost is a mixture of varying decaying
organic substances used for fertilizing soil
(http://www.howtocompost.org).

Organic landscapers and professional lawn care companies who are
using natural mixtures of compost teas and potions of good
bacteria are "sprouting up" in various areas.

A 2004 survey from the National Gardening Association showed that
5% of us are using organic means for fertilizers, and weed and
insect control. They expect that number to double to 10% by 2009.

Tips for organic lawn care:

--Let your grass grow higher (3 " blades)

--Twice a year mow low (2 ")

--Leave grass clippings on lawn

--Water between 12 midnight and 8 am every few days

--Weed control:
----Over-seed the lawn in the spring
----Pull weeds by hand, or use a fish-tail weeder;
----Spot-treat weeds with an equal mix of vinegar and water
----Re-seed bare areas where weeds have been pulled.

--Attract or purchase natural enemies:
----Lure birds with sunflowers and zinnias
----Buy ladybugs at a garden supply store
----Get a toad for your garden

2. How To Make Compost Tea for Your Garden
===========================================

by Yvonne Perry

Would you like to give your garden a boost of natural fertilizer?

Here's a way to make your own by using garden clippings and
leftovers from your kitchen.

I enjoy taking a cup of tea or coffee outside to my "thinking"
spot as my 5-year-old grandson calls it, and enjoy the beauty of
nature around me.

I noticed that some of my plants look like they could use a
boost, perhaps some fertilizer, but I'm not into putting
chemicals into my body or my garden.

I found a great natural recipe for compost tea that I'd like to
share with you. It takes a few weeks to prepare, but you'll only
need a few organic ingredients. If you have a compost pile, you
won't have to buy a thing to get started.

Composting is a great way to get rid of your meatless kitchen
scraps, and provide natural nourishment for all your plants. Use
grass clippings, leaves, plant material, and any uncooked scraps
from the crisper drawer of your refrigerator.

Compost Tea

½ Cup Epsom Salt (optional)
5 gallons of non-chlorinated water (rainwater is perfect)
5 pounds of compost (stinging nettle or alfalfa meal may be
substituted)

--Mix all ingredients in a large container, then cover with a lid
and let it ferment for about 1-3 weeks, stirring everyday (it
will smell bad).

--Once it stops bubbling it's ready to use.

--Strain the tea into plastic or glass jugs and store in a cool
place.

When ready to use, you must dilute the tea!

--Add 1 cup of tea to 10 cups of water.

--Drench the soil around your plants. Your flowers will love this
natural boost of energy from Mother Nature and you will enjoy
knowing that you are being environmentally responsible.

Of all the wonders of nature, a tree in summer
is perhaps the most remarkable; with the possible
exception of a moose singing "Embraceable You" in spats.
